Interrupting his chain of thought, was one of the demons assigned to bring people into the ring. Seiren tilts his head, then looks over at Mera who shrugs. Following the demon, they exit the cell and head onto the field once more.
What’s going on now? The cheers are a lot louder than usual. Just what are we walking into here? Seiren thinks.
The brightness from the field blinds them as they step out and their eyes widen in surprise.
“Maya?” Seiren says.
Easily discernible by ragged clothing and her hair, Seiren and Mera were confused.
“Time for the Execution match! She’s gonna be fighting her two new friends! Just what sort of tragedy is gonna unfold today?!” The advocate shouts.
Maya reaches upward, grabbing the ragged hood, with one quick swipe she pulls off the entire cloak. Revealing her chiseled arms, and steel abs. Her outfit consisted of a sports bra with decorative straps across her chest. Her pants are a pair of black sweats with white bands around the thighs, the right leg was torn above her knee and a green jacket was tied around her waist. She wore a collar around her neck similar to the other participants.
“I knew we shouldn’t have trusted her,” Mera says, shooting Maya a glare.
“She might be getting coerced or manipulated,” Seiren says.
“We barely knew her. So something like this isn’t that far-fetched.” Mera says.
As much as I’d like to think this is a misunderstanding, it's not looking too good. Seiren thinks.
“Maya you don’t have to do this,” Seiren says.
“I’m sorry, but I have no choice.” She says. “I tried to help you as much as I could. But it wasn’t enough. Now there’s no other option but to put the both of you down.”
Mera sucks her teeth.
“Is there no other option? Or is that just what you tell yourself?” Mera questions. “The way you were talking to Seiren I could at the very least tell that you cared. Otherwise, you’d have neglected to tell us about your fiance.”
“Enough,” Maya says as she starts walking toward them slowly. Her foot touches the ground, creating a small foot-sized crater. With each step, a crater forms, in which Seiren and Mera look on in sheer awe.
“Uh oh! This is it! The beginning of the end!” The advocate announces. “The walk of death!”
She just might kill us… Seiren thinks.
Mera sighs.
“If you believe that Maya is being forced or manipulated, then I can’t stop you from trying to get through. But as it stands right now, we’re only half a team since I can’t fight properly.” Mera says. “For now just focus on keeping her busy and as cliche, as it might be, I’ll try my best to bring her back to her senses.”
Seiren looks at her with a blank stare.
“What?” She asks.
“I’m just surprised you’re going along with this,” Seiren says.
“It's the least I can do. In my current state…” Mera says. “Just be careful, I’m getting some dangerous vibes.”
Seiren nods, then walks out to meet Maya. He creates his spear, spinning it between his left and right hands, and gets into his combat stance.
From the weight of her steps, she must be a power type. Speed might be the only thing I can use to throw her off, for enough time. If this fails we’re both gonna die again. No pressure, me. Seiren thinks.
He dashes forward at Maya and breaks to the left. With a swift spin, he cuts behind her, he thrusts suddenly with his spear. Maya turns to him, letting the spear strike her solid abs, taking the entirety of the attack without flinching. She grabs the spear and raises it and Seiren into the air with a swing of her left arm. Seiren releases the spear, and lands on the ground with a bit of a slide, due to the momentum. He nearly falls over, but he catches himself. Maya lowers her arm as Seiren’s spear turns into a serpentine figure and coils around her arms.
Great! Somehow I restricted her arms. Seiren thinks.
“Maya, do you think this is what your fiance would have wanted?” Mera questions. “Wasting away on this layer and listening to these dogs called advocates?”
Maya grits her teeth. With a flex of her arms, she breaks free from his shadow.
“I think we both know this lifestyle isn’t sustainable.” Mera states.
Maya clenches her fist and punches the ground. The force causes the back half of the ring to launch into the air with Seiren and Mera on it. They begin to slide down the half of the ring in the air, and Seiren jumps toward Maya. Mera rolls off of the ring, and onto the ground.
“This doesn’t have to continue!” He begins.
Maya grabs him by his collar and slams him into the other half of the ring. A crack forms and stretches through it, causing it to turn into falling rocks. Each rocky remnant of the arena crashes into Seiren’s body as Maya leaves Seiren in the rubble.
