Dai looks at Miyo as he walks away to the kitchen of the bakery. Dai feels a little sad, and takes a bite of the cake he ordered. As soon as he feels the sweet taste on his tongue, he understands why his childhood friend recommended this cake shop. He slowly eats the whole cake. It even looks pretty.
After finishing the cake, Dai remains seated a little longer, looking around the bakery. He must remember to come to this shop more often. The food is great, and having a chance to befriend Miyo is also a plus. Unfortunately it doesn't look like Miyo has any intention of becoming friends with him. Finally, Dai decides to get up and leave the shop, thinking there will be more chances to go to this bakery.
Leaving the cake shop, Dai goes to the library to finish the project for Monday. He gets distracted after a while and play some games on his phone, he also messages his childhood friend, thanking him for the bakery recommendation. When Dai sees its already dark outside, he plans to go home, and on the way home he buys some beer. At the supermarket he sees Miyo's friends, but he doesn't greet them, as he doesn't even know their names. On his way home he opens one of the cans of beer and drinks it. From the supermarket he still has to walk 20 minutes. In the morning he went to the area near the university with someone else's car, but now he has to walk back.
Approximately halfway home, Dai thinks he sees something moving on the street. At first he doesn't mind it, but then he sees it moving again. He walks closer to it. Dai now sees that it looks round, and it is a little dirty white. It's not moving anymore, so it must have been moving because of the wind before. As Dai walks closer, he kicks the white object lying on the ground, and it rolls away a bit. It also makes a sound. He's a bit confused and wants to know what the white thing is. He squats down to look closer at it. It looks fluffy, and he gets the urge to touch it. Dai stretches out his hand, and pokes the thing.
The white thing feels very soft and it makes Dai want to touch it some more. When he pokes it again, he feels the thing is warm. It also makes a soft sound, and moves away a little. Now Dai notices that the thing is alive. After the small thing moves, Dai can see two big eyes. He pokes it again and it moves some more. Dai can now see that it is a bird, though it is a species he's never seen before. The white fluffy bird is injured. Dai thinks it must be a lost pet. Normally, he would just leave it be, but it looks so cute and innocent, he decides to take it home and treat it. He decides to look for the owner of it later.
Together with the fluffy ball, Dai walks home. After another 10 minutes, he finally arrives at his house. Dai own a whole house, and is the only resident of it. It's not just a small house, and it even has a relatively big garden. He lives alone, since even though his father want to spoil him, but he also want him to become independent. His parents are considered rich. At the start of this school year, when Dai decided to move out, his father gave him this house. Dai always thought it's a little too big to live in alone, but he doesn't really care.
Dai enters his house. After taking of his shoes and his coat, he enters the living room. Thinking about what to do with the bird, he decides to wash it first. After washing it, the bird is asleep. Dai leaves it lying on the sofa, and searches around on the internet. Somehow, he can't seem to find what species bird this is. He wants to find what this type of bird eats and what it needs, but since it's impossible to find what kind of bird it is, he doesn't know what to do.
He checks to see if the bird is still on the sofa, and then he orders take out for dinner. While eating dinner, the bird suddenly hits him from behind and falls on the table. After that, the bird starts eating some of his food. Dai is very surprised by all of this, but then decides it's good the bird at least is eating something. When Dai finishes dinner, the bird follows him everywhere, throughout the whole house.
'What kind of owner trains his bird to follow people everywhere?! And if it follows even me everywhere, how did it ever get lost?!' is what Dai is thinking, and when the bird even follows him to the bathroom, he really doesn't know what to do anymore.
He calls one of his friends, to ask how to take care of a pet, and how to make it listen, but his friend of course doesn't know either, and instead questions why Dai wants to take care of a pet. Dai can't really say he just found an animal on the street, so he took it home, so he doesn't say anything and hangs up.
After showering, Dai who is tired lies down in bed. Of course the bird also follows him to bed. When thinking of what happened today, Dai remembers how cold Miyo was to him. Now that he thinks about it, he didn't just seem cold, it seemed like he was very annoyed about seeing Dai, even though he tried to hide it. Dai doesn't know what was wrong, so he calls the same friend again.
'Do you remember me ever doing something to offend Miyo by accident? Does he have any reason to hate me?'
His friend is slightly uncomfortable, because he knows perfectly well why Miyo could avoid Dai, but he doesn't say it. Instead he thinks that what happened is Miyo's fault anyway, and that Dai shouldn't concern himself with someone like Miyo. So after a while he replies.
'Of course you haven't done anything wrong. Miyo is just unsociable and unfriendly. You shouldn't care about someone like him.'
Dai replies with a 'hmm' and hangs up. He thinks it's weird that he called Miyo unfriendly, since he remembers Miyo being super social last year. Then again, this year it seems like Miyo is mostly alone.
Dai's friend is left wondering why Dai is asking so many weird and random questions today.
