He wakes at the sound of a beautiful song, notes ringing in his ears gorgeously as his hazy eyes blink open. He swears its angels singing, a beautiful melody mixing with the harmony in the background. It makes his eyes droop, mind feeling fuzzy once again.
Wait.
Wait! Shit that's mermaids!
Nico shoots up in the bed, eyes wide. They're singing that damn song, the one that draws men in like nats to liquor.
He realizes how the bed seems colder, amd he looks over to find that Luca is gone, the moonlight shining in from the window showing the captain a painfully empty bed. He stares stupidly for a moment before shooting up, grabbing his coat and slamming out his own door.
The song is louder, beautiful with the sound of the ocean that the moonlight that reflects off of. Nico looks around the deck wildly. Thankfully none of the crew are out here, their sleep killing out the siren song. Nico has heard it many many times, and hes lost three men to it before and hes not losing more.
So where's-
His eyes snap to attention, seeing the clothed figure by the railing. Luca's shirt billows out behind him, blue eyes shining against the moonlight as he leans on the side of the boat.
His cheeks are still slightly flushed, but he looks better than he has in the last couple days.
And as his mouth opens, Nico feels his heart stop.
The omega sings out a note. A piece of the song that the mermaids sing below. Its beautiful in his voice, deeper than that of the more feminine voices of the siren song that comes from the sea.
Another note sings back into the air, and Nico watches as Luca smiles gently at the sound, closing his eyes and singing out another note. There's no words, just the sound of one smooth song flowing from his throat. The mermaids join in with him, singing beautifully behind his more masculine voice.
He's... Singing with them.
"Luca."
The boy flinches, mouth clacking shut and turning a sharp, surprised glare on the alpha.
The sirens below silence, and there's splashing, sounding their leave.
"What?" The omega mutters sharply.
"Its just..." Nico swallows, his heart still thundering in his chest,"I thought that maybe..."
"...I'm fine." Luca looks out at the sea,"The sirens show mercy on certain people." He frowns, side glaring Nico,"I don't need protection."
"...I know." Nico says softly, then sighs, walking over and leaning against the railing himself,"It's just my heart is set on helping, I've lost too many men to them." He looks down at the water below,"Sirens are gentle creatures. But are unforgiving to the greedy and lustful ones."
Luca nods some, not commenting as he looks down at the water silently.
Nico stares out at the sea, loving the way the moon shines on the horizon. He glances over, watching as Luca closes his own eyes and takes a deep breath. The bandage on his cheek certainly needs changing, the small material roughed up.
"May I ask you something?" The captain murmurs, and the omega boy opens his eyes, giving a wary glare.
"What is it, then I'll decide if I want to answer or not."
Nico chuckles, nodding. Then he takes a breth, staring hard at the water. Some kind of nervous curiousty takes over his mind, and he glances at the smaller boy next to him, the omega looking too relaxed to be in heat, even though he's only 3 days in.
He takes a breath,"Why were you alone on your first heat?"
Luca's eyes open, but they're hard, a frown embedding itself across his lips.
"Why?" He snorts, raising about at the alpha,"I daresay cap'in, you seem to be in love with me with as many questions you ask." He mutters.
Nico doesn't budge,"Well?"
Luca grumbles,"Are you really wanting to know?"
"Yes." Nico insists.
Luca nods. There's something about his behavior that seems almost snarky and sarcastic.
"I felt like it." He says sharply, and as he looks at the older man he simply gives a hard glower,"Leave it be at that. Stop asking personal things that don't really need to be known." He hisses, striding past with a bump to the captain's shoulder.
Nico sighs, pressing the heel of his palm to his forehead.
"This kid..."
