It's been a few weeks since everything happened. Arabella and I are on our hunting trip deep in the Adirondack Mountains. Arabella walks back into our campsite carrying a deer on her shoulders. "How was the hunt?" I ask. "Relaxing and easy, like it is every time I hunt. By the way, we are having deer for dinner." She drops the deer from her shoulder and drags it over to the fire and begins to prepare it.
“Come eat some raw meat, Astrid.” I groan and drag myself over to where she is, “Do I have to eat this raw?” She laughs at me, “yes you do! It won’t be that bad, now stop complaining and eat already!” I give in and try some. Even though it was extremely weird it wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. I notice Arabella looking at me like she was about to say I told you so, “Don’t even think about it!” I say giving her a look. She looks at me all innocent, “I would never! Either way, are you ready to learn how to hunt newbie?” I nod, “let’s do this!”
We head off deeper into the woods to be extra sure no humans are around. Most humans know about lycans and everything but it's best to keep our distance anyway. Arabella teaches me how to sense what’s around me and to pinpoint where my prey is, after that we spar for a little bit and then start to head back.
“You’re quite good for a new hybrid, though I shouldn’t be surprised. You're always good at everything” Arabella says sourly. “I am not good at everything!” I respond a little out of breath. I suddenly feel a shiver run down my spine, I look around, “Arabella, do you feel that?” She looks at me and nods. Someone is watching us. All of a sudden a large black wolf jumps on me and knocks me down. I shove him off and get up, rolling my eyes recognizing the scent “Seriously Alec? Way to scare us asshole.”
Looks like my boyfriend tracked us down. I watch him shift back into human form. “Well you didn’t tell me when you were going hunting, so what else was I gonna do to get you back,” he says as he walks over to hug me. “Well shit! I thought I was forgetting something. My bad.” He gives me a half-smile that I adore, “you always forget something!” He kisses me before I have the chance to smack him, “You are so lucky I love you.”
“I know I’m lucky!” He looks around and sniffs the air, “Do you smell that?” I notice the scent but I have no idea what or who it could be. “Stay alert guys, someone else is here,” Arabella warns us. I look around, who in the world could have followed us this far into the woods, there is no way it’s a human. “What should we do?” I ask. They both look at me unsure.
I hear a crack and turn around, our mysterious person walks out from the woods and stops a few feet away from us. I examine him as he stares at me. He has short black hair and deep blue eyes. I feel like I know him but nothing comes to me, that's odd. “Who are you, and why are you staring at me?” He doesn’t respond, he continues to stare. “This is a bit weird.” Arabella comments. I roll my eyes, “No kidding!”
I clear my throat, “Who are you?!” He still doesn’t respond and it’s starting to piss me off. “Should we kill him?” Alec suggests. I look at him with a what the fuck look, “Did you seriously just ask me that?”. He looks at me but doesn’t say anything. Arabella sighs and looks at the stranger, “Look dude you have two choices, talk or die!” I stare at her in shock. I suddenly feel protective of him, why would we kill him, we don’t even know what he wants.
“My name is Blayne Underwood.” I look at him, surprised that he answered. “Well, why are you here Blayne?” Arabella asks him. He ignores her question and turns his gaze back to me. It felt different this time. I feel something hit me and I slam into a tree and fall to the ground. I stay on the ground for a second feeling dazed, not sure what the hell happened. Then it hit me, “Did you do that Blayne?” He nods. “Why the hell would you do that?” Arabella snarls at him. “Cause I felt like it.” I look at him for a minute then it all makes sense, “You’re a warlock aren’t you?”
He nods. “You are either here to kill me or study me, which is it?” I asked without hesitation. Warlocks and hybrids know of each other. There are still a lot of unknowns about hybrids that leave warlocks curious. “I am here to study you, that is all,” he answers. Arabella looks at him unsure, “Then why did you throw her into a tree for god sake!” He rolls his eyes and sighs, “ I want to study her and that man's abilities, their limits, stuff like that. To do that pain is the best method.” he states unfazed by Arabella’s hostility.
She sighs but doesn't object. “Do what you must I guess, no reason to stop you from learning about us. Try to be nice.” I say. He takes no time to begin the tests. First, he starts with Alec. I watch as he doubles over screaming in pain. Alec tries to resist the urge to change but gives in after a few minutes. He turns to me and I guess it’s my turn, I feel an extreme pain in my head. It starts to radiate through my body, I fall to the ground screaming trying to hold back from changing. After a while, I shifted as Alec did. “You both have good pain tolerance, and you shift fast which is good,” he says looking pleased.
“Why is that a good thing?” Alec asks, still short of breath. “Being able to shift fast means you are able to defend yourself when needed. You are of course stronger in wolf form than in human form. So naturally, you would want to switch forms as fast as possible,” he explains. I was about to ask a question when he declared it was time for our next test. Alec and I both look at him, “I want you to fight each other.”
Alec and I look at each other and then back at Blayne, “Why?” Alec asks before I get the chance to. “To test your strength of course, and to see who is stronger,” he answers. I lunge at Alec before he even looks at me, and tackle him to the ground. We wrestle and try to pin each other down. I finally managed to get him into a headlock, I know he can’t get away from me. He taps my arm and I let go, “I’m stronger than you!” I laugh, mocking him.
He growls at me playfully, “I’ll get you next time!” I laugh at him again, but this time I go over and kiss him. “I doubt you will ever beat her, females are always better than males,” Blayne tells him. Alec rolls his eyes, “That stupid.” Blayne rolls his eyes but doesn’t say anything. “Do you need anything else, Blayne?” Arabella asks. He shakes his head and leaves without another word.
“That was odd,” I say, both Alec and Arabella agree with me. “Let’s go home,” Arabella suggests. I nod in agreement, we start to walk back when I start to hear the sound of wings. Then an angel lands on the ground next to Arabella making her jump a little. “Hi, Vivian.” Arabella and I say at the same time
“Hi!” I look at her, “what’s up, need something?” She shakes her head and starts to walk with us as we leave. She perks up, “Oh! Guess what guys!!” We all look at her, waiting for her to tell us. “I finally learned how to give people wings!” she says. We all gape at her, I finally respond, “so you can turn anyone into an angel then?” She nods with a huge smile on her face. “That’s cool,” Arabella says.
“Anyone want wings?” I shake my head no but Alec and Arabella say yes. “Awesome! Let’s move into that clearing over there for more space.” We all walk over. “How does this work exactly?” Alec asks. “It’s a secret on how the magic works, but the wings will grow out of your back when I use my magic. Arabella, you go first!”
I watch as she has Arabella lay on the ground, Vivian places her hands on both of Arabella‘s shoulder blades. She started to chant something in a language I don’t understand. Her hands start to glow, after a minute wings start to grow out of her back. Arabella starts screaming, after a couple of seconds it’s over and she gets up. I see Alec shudder but he lays down and goes through the same process as Arabella. He gets up and shivers, “That hurt like hell, but was worth it!” He flaps his wings to see if he could actually fly. After he figures it out he flies over to me and he lands on my shoulders. I lose my balance and we both fell over. I smack him “what the hell? Why did you land on me?” I glare at him. “Thought it would be fun.” he shrugs. “Asshole.” He rolls his eyes as Arabella and I laugh at him.
“So, would you be able to fly me around?” I ask. He smirks and grabs me. He starts flying, I scream at first but it ends up being so much fun!! He eventually turns around and we went back to where we left Arabella and Vivian, but she wasn’t there.
I look around and start to panic, “Where is she, she wouldn’t have left!” I say, Alec suggests that we split up to look for her. After a while we still couldn’t find her, we head home to see if she was there.
Elsewhere… Arabella P.O.V
“Ugh, my head. What the hell happened?” I sit up and look around, I don’t recognize where I am. “You're at my house,” Blayne says. I look at him confused, “why did you knock me out? If you had asked I would have come with you!” I say pissed. “I’m sorry, I wasn’t sure you would and I need to talk to you about Astrid,” he explains. “What about her?” I ask, trying to keep myself calm.
“She is my sister.” My mouth drops open in disbelief, “are you sure?” I ask “My dad sent me a letter saying that I have a twin sister and her name is Astrid. He sent a photo of her, she’s very young in the picture but you can tell it’s her.” He showed me the picture and it was definitely her. “Are you going to tell her? Do you want help telling her?” He nods, “it is very important that she knows! I would like your help in case she doesn’t believe me.”
“Do you mind telling me why it’s so important?” I ask “After the next full moon, which happens to be tonight, she will turn into a witch and will most likely gain powers. She must be home when that happens.” he explains. “Why will she need to be home?” I ask him. “You will have to see it for yourself when it happens.” I nod my head in understanding. “Let’s go, Blayne.” We leave his house and head back to mine.
Astrid P.O.V
Alec and I are sitting down discussing what we should do when Arabella walks into the house. I get up and tackled her to the ground, “Thank god you're okay!” She looks at me, “there is someone here to see you,” she says, and Blayne walks inside.
I was a little surprised to see him, but I still greet him. “Astrid, he has something to tell you.” I feel a bit nervous but I nod and look at him. “I’m your brother.” My mouth drops open. I look at Arabella and she nods showing me he wasn’t lying. “Well, I wasn't expecting that!” Alec says. I sit down, completely in shock. Alec looks at me worried, “are you okay babe?” he asks. I didn’t answer, he grabs me and we walk into the kitchen to talk.
“Astrid, are you okay?” he asks again. I look at him, “yeah! I’m surprised, that's all.” I answer. He looks at me like he didn’t believe me. “I said I’m okay!” He moves closer and hugs me, “If you say so.” He kisses me and Blayne walks into the kitchen. “Ah, sorry guys!” he turns to leave.
I stopped him from leaving, “did you need something Blayne?” He turns around and looks at me, “I need to tell you something and it’s important.” I look at him waiting for him to go on. He takes a deep breath almost like he is nervous. “Sometime after daybreak tomorrow you will become a witch." I sit there, not knowing what the hell is happening. “What do you mean?” Alec asks him. “Well to put it simply she will most likely get new powers, what those might be is a mystery.”
“Why is she getting them?” Alec asks. “Being the firstborn child of our parents, who are also witches, she gets powers." Alec looks confused, “but then how do you have powers?” Then it hit me like a ton of brick, “we are twins!” Blayne nods his head and confirms my theory. “I need a minute.” I get up and go to my room to be alone so I can think everything through
Downstairs Blayne’s P.O.V
Arabella walks into the kitchen and looks around, “How did it go?” she asks. “About as well as I expected.” I look at Alec, “should I talk to her?” Alec sighs, and thinks for a minute. “No, I think she needs some time to think, I will go up and check on her in a little bit.”
A couple hours later… Astrid’s P.O.V
I hear someone come up the stairs and knock on my door, “Can I come in?” Alec asks. I say yes and he walks in and shuts the door behind him. He sits next to me on the bed. “How are you doing?” I sigh and look at him, “I don’t know. This is all so strange and scary! What if I can’t control my powers and I hurt someone?” I feel tears slide down my face. Alec hugs me and reassures me it will all be okay and that he will always be there for me. I pull away and kiss him. Arabella walked in without knocking.
If you hadn’t noticed boundaries don’t exist in this house.
“Gross!!” she exclaims. “Well if you’d knock before walking into my bedroom you wouldn’t have seen anything!” I snap at her. She rolls her eyes at me, “I was checking to see if you were okay, but clearly you are.” I sigh, “I will be okay. It will take me time to get used to everything, but I know you will always be here to help me when I need you.” They both nod and say damn straight which makes me laugh. We walk back downstairs and see Blayne fire bending. “Wow!” I say, louder than I meant. Blayne looks at me and doesn’t realize the flames are following where he is looking.
The fire hit me, “Ahhh” I scream, covering my face. “Oh no! Astrid I'm so sorry, I didn’t mean to!” Blayne tries to explain, but I wouldn’t listen. I run out of the house before anyone can stop me.
