Unwilling Goddess

Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Oct 19, 2021

Demitree let me take the rest of the week off of school, telling them it was a health matter. The school knows about my trauma, so they're a bit more lenieant. But it wasn't the school that I was worried about. My powers were getting out of hand, but to a concerning degree. The front door rang about 4 times, all by people who brought me random gifts, with a glazed over look in their eyes. First it was a chocolate bar from a popular subsitiute teacher at the school. Then it was a scetchbook & mechanical pencils from a former officer that I could've sworn moved to L.A. several years ago. A few hours after him, my neighbors came over & brought over their two kittens & huskey puppy, saying that they wanted to play. The thing that threw me off the most though, was the last person to arrive. I was talking to Demi on a video chat, really freaking out.
"& you're sure it was really everyone? You didn't like... dream it or something?"
"No! I know they were real! The thing that each person carried was real..."
"Ok, but that doesn't mean the people were real."
"I... I-I don't understand."
"Let say you really wanted all those things, so you summonded them to you, but made images of those people bring them to you."
I understood what she was saying, but it still seemed a bit farfeched. "S-Still... I-I was never able to make stuff like t-" the door bell rang again & I sighed. "I know what this is though. I ordered pizza. When will you be home again?" there was a sigh. "Next week; promise. I'll even get you something special. Sound good." I found myself smiling. "Yeah, definately. I'll... I'll call you later. I love you Demi." with a quick shout of 'love you too', I went to the door. The doorbell started ringing like crazy though; jeeze, was this guy on a time crunch? "I'm coming, I'm-" I opened the door & it was Crow standing there, eyes with a blank expression. "C-C-Crow!?!" I slammed the door in his face & heard a yelp. "H-Hey! You can't just leave me here!" he called out; I blinked, reopening the door.
"You can talk."
"Uh... yeah. Ever since I was like 11 months."
"That's not what I-ok, why do you have my pizza?"
"I was coming up here to check on you & the dude thought I lived here."
My head was beginging to pound. "Can I come in at least?" I nodded slowly, backing up so he could come in. He heads straight for the kitchen to begin setting items down. "You ok? Look like you've seen a gh-" I give him a tight hug; thank god he's real. "U-Um, o-ok, we're huging. D-Did something happen? Are you o-" "Let me enjoy this... ok?" he goes quiet, sighing. "Fine, fine." he says, slowly hugging me back. After a little while, I let go, going to the table. "Well... thanks for bringing this in." I said, suddenly feeling embarrassed. "No problem..." Crow says. "Uh... I-I can go, if you want me to. Seems like you're having a tough time & I-" Crow suddenly stopped talking. "& what? I mean, yeah, I was struggling but I'm-" "Ugh... this is seriously how you choose to walk around?" the voice that came out of Crow's mouth was not his. It sounded like him, but the tone it took was nothing like anything I've heard Crow use before. "I... I-I-I'm sorry, I just dont get it." I slowly turned to him & knew something was wrong. My abilities make me very keen on people's changes in mood; this was a whole new person in front of me. Crow had his right hand in his pocket, using the left hand to give himself a once over. Red flag; Crow is ambedextrious, but he favors his right hand. He stared at his clothes in disgust & was looking at his palms. "Cause this-this feels gross. Not to mention I look like a emo nightmare. Seriously, these things get you o-" his right hand sueddenly pulls at his hair. What the heck is going on? Crow's body takes a step towards me; his eyes were a peircing green. "S-S... STAY BACK!" Crow's body froze, but the voice chuckled. "Oh, you are one cheeky little thing aren't you? What go live with humans & think you're b-" he tried to move, but he couldn't. "W-What 'n the-" This wasn't Crow, not anymore anyway; his body was still Crow & he looked like Crow too. But those eyes... the voice, even his posture didn't belong to him. His eyes showed an anger, a frustration that's clearly been in his eyes for years. His eyes before all this were sorrowful if anything. "A-All right then, little Goddess has some tricks." I feel the room getting warmer, as if the heat was kciked on. Who or what was this thing in Crow? "W... What are you? How are you in my friend?" he raised his eyebrows in question. "What, you serious? I'm just like you. You & I are one in the same." That last sentance carried anger with it. He's clearly some sort of god, but what?

Breathe girl, you got this; my powers being wonky might just work in my favor. I took a deep breath & raised a hand to Crow's body. "I said, what are you? Answer me now; your God commands you." He smirks, but suddenly relaxes. "Scortch, God of Fire. I heard rumors & had to see you for myself." he says plainly. "Rumors...?" he nodded, but the right hand began clutching his chest. "Y... Yes, rumors about-" Crow's body falls to the ground as black smoke begins curling off his body; I run to him as a voice yells out at me. "I'll come back! Don't you worry Little Goddess! They're gonna love this!" the vocie chides.

Having hoisted Crow over my shoulders & into the guest room, I hurry to grab wash cloths & run them over cool water. I get back & start placing them on his wrists & forehead; I place a hand over his body & I can feel an immense heat coming from him. Weird... it's like he has heat exhaustion, but a bad case of it. The only other thing I can think of is to loosen his clothes... nope. He's in a black buttondown & jeans though... seems like a bit much for school. Well, at least considering that he practically lives in graphic tees, & a jacket; wonder what he was doing. I sighed, undoing his first 3 buttons on his shirt. "Really hope he doesn't ask any questions..." I murmer. Once I was sure that he was definately cooling down, I left the room. That... thing that possessed him; he said he was a God. "Scortch... God of fire huh. Question is how could he take over someones body...?" & why did he say we were one in the same? Are... are there more people like me? Was he the guy at the police station? I had to many questions & not nearly enough strength for it. For now, we rest... & maybe research protective fire symbols too. Ugh, Demi's gonna kill me.
