He motioned to the cockpit, which lay quite some distance away, battered, on the ground. "Our guess is that he is in there, at least that was his last non location before the mines...". Kane sighed again, "why again did he voluentered to take on this task again? After he got away from this planet, I will hand in my resignation...". He took some deep breaths, streched himself and looked around. His way was littered with metal parts, sand dunes and other debris from the vehicle. "At least I got some cover" he thought to himself. The solider next to him gave him a go sign and before Kane realized what he was doing, he already was in the open, running over the desert sand.
The enemy took quite some time to realize what was happening, maybe the sunlight obstructed their view, or the debris covered him. But it was only near the end of his run, that enemy fire was comming at him. He panted under his helmet, sweet run down his face. "Shouldn't the gear be climatised?" he thought. He jumped behind a small metal splinter which had dug itself into a dune. He glanced cautiosly around it: The enemy was still focusing on the vehicle. Small speeders flew over the open desert, attacking soliders who draged themselfs out of the vehicles. In some places the soliders managed to group up and firecly defended themselfs. Still it didn't look to good Kane thought, their forces where sperated quite a bit. He had no time to waste, he looked to his left, where cockpit lay in the sand and moved coutiosly in this direction.
He was near his goal, as he heard some noises. He dropped himself on the group, lay still and listened.
Voices, he thought, somebody was talking nearby. But he didn't understood what he was hearing. He slowly robbed closer. Left arm up, right leg up, right arm up, left leg up, left arm up... so he continued his way to the noise, under the buring sun. Sweating he arived at the top of a dune, below him he saw to black wearing figures standing next to each other. They were in the middle of a converstation and didn't seem to be very aware of their surroundings. Kane lay montionless ontop of the dune and observed them, while the sun burned down on him without mercy. After beeing sure that there were no others around he slowly reached for his riffle and took aim at the first one.
He breathed out and fired his first shot and missed. The shot flew harmless past the enemies. The spun around, and francticly searched their surroundings. He took another shot, this one hit the enemy and he dropped dead on the ground. The other one had spotted Kanes position and fired, without really taking aim, at him. The shots flew everywere and Kane was forced to to move into cover. He didn't know if the enemy had called for reinforcements, "I should wrap that up as fast as I can" he thought while leaping out of cover. The enemy was in the process of reloading his gun, as Kanes shots hit him in the chest. Kane slid down the dune and moved to check the dead.
Both of them were completly black clothes made of cloth, the heads were covered with a hood and their faces were covered by a black mask. He cautiosly checked for any vital signs. After he was sure that both were dead he proceeded to make his way into the cockpit. Inside the cockpit everything was dark, it had been flipped around and now lay on the glas front, a dead pilot lay on one of the consoles. Metaldebris and sand where everywhere, he proceeded to move past some broken wire, which still spewed some sparks of electricity. Near the right hand side lay a big chunck of metal, and he could hear some grunting noise, he slowly approched the metal, and peaked past it.
Only to look into the barrel of a gun. He dropped his weapon, "Sir don't fire, it's me Kane". The gun was lowered and he looked into the pain distorted face of his seargent. "Argh... I thought you were one of them...". "Sorry to disappoint Sir, Kane you move?" Kane replied, already assuming what the answer was. "No... I'm stuck under a part of this metal chunck argh...". Kane sighed silently, reached for his belt and pulled out a small pen like device. And handed it to the seargent. "Use this for now and I will have a look on how we are getting you out Sir" with this words Kane stood up and moved around the metal to examin it. The legs of the seargent where stuck under the metal, but it might be possible, another piece of debris had prevented them from beeing completly crushed. He looked around and found a long metal stick, maybe part of the Handrail, and placed it between the two pices of debris.
"Sir, I will try to get you out with this, I hope you've used that pen already. You need to crawl away from there as fast as you can" Kane said. "Then let's do it" said the Seargent with a nearly normal voice, "the adrenaline seems to be doing it's job" Kane thought. "On a count of three" he said and put on food onto his makeshift lever. "One... two.. THREE" he said and jumped onto the pole. His weight was amplied through the lever and he manged to push up the part which prevented the seargent from moving. He crawled with everything he got: "Out" he shouted and Kane jumped from the lever, which lead to the metal crashing down. He came over to the seargent, who laid on his side, panting heavily. He did some examination before he asked: "Are you able to set yourself up?". The seargent nodded, and after a short moment of gathering his strength sat up with a grunt: "What now?" he asked. Kane replied: "We need to get you out of here and to the medics, then hopefull you can take over command.". It sounded so simple Kane thought, but traversing this route with an injured was not going to be an easy task, even if one ignores the battle raging around them.
He checked his weapons and handed the seargent an spare magazin for the pistol: "I will try to carry you, but I need you to have my back, as I can't shoot and carry you at the same time". "True", replied the seargent.
"This will be fun..." Kane thought: "This is why I haven't gone to the pioneers or the medics..." he handed the seargent his rifle aswell and then slowly pulled him to the hole in the wall, through which he had entered the vehicle. "Ok Sir, I guess this will be painfull, and I don't know if we can do it in one go, because I'm not the best at sport, so yeah just to warn you. Ready?" "Sounds fun" the seargent replied. "And here we go" Kane grunted as he lifted the seargent onto his back. With that they exited the cockpit.
