[Character Information]
Name: Kevin “Kannech” Morren
Race: Demon King (Mage Support)
Skills:
Black Healing, Illusion, Elemental Magic, Enhancement, Puppeteer’s Harley ????? ERROR ????? ERROR ????? [Unable to retrieve remaining abilities]
There was a problem with my skills. It could only show around five of them before errors occurred.
I knew for a fact that Kannech had more abilities than that. He would not be called the Demon King if he had measly abilities that even a high-grade monster owned. Minus the Black Healing and Puppeteer’s Harley which were Kannech’s innate abilities, the rest were just common or rare abilities.
I recalled letting out one of the skills he had before. The stomp. I stared at the crater and noticed my footprint at the center of it.
The crater was reminiscent of a skill called Shockwave. It was usually used by Berserkers to cause a temporary imbalance of enemies’ footings. The Berserker then would crush their foes when they were trying to recover.
But…why didn’t it show in my status? If I had that ability, it should’ve been shown on the screen but there was nothing there.
I decided to check out the file once again. Despite calling it useless, it helped me a few times already now even though the information seemed to be aimed at the Hero. The author never really expected me to become a Demon King, huh?
I read through the sentences and stopped at a particular topic regarding Skills. I didn’t read through it the first time and it looked like something was going to help me.
[Something will go wrong when you first read through your skills. Before that, I have something to inform you. I made sure that you have a higher chance of becoming the Hero rather than anyone else. Unless there’s some kind of anomaly that I never expect, I will assume that you are the Hero right now. So, back to the skills!
It took me a lot of energy to make you become in sync with the Hero so there will be a slight disadvantage but nothing to worry about! The disadvantage is that you might have difficulties using your skills. Most of them aren’t accessible where the words “ERROR” and question marks will constantly show up.
But no worries! That’s just the consequences of me trying to make sure that you got the Hero to reside in! Anyways! The solution is quite simple. You simply have to read through the novel again and detect what skills aren’t shown and you have to re-learn it! Don’t be afraid though. Since the original soul and body are used to the skills, it’s going to be easy-peasy to learn it again. Just use your imagination! When enough practice is done, you can get every skill back! Now, try it!]
The last sentence was getting on my nerve. Sure, I was planning on trying it but because I began to hate the author for what he did, I didn't follow his instruction. Instead, I heaved a sigh and looked up at the night sky.
The novel had described how this planet was big enough to have two moons. When the eclipse came, there would be a third moon appearing and that was when the farm harvest would be flourishing. At the same time though, the activities of the monsters would also rise. The chances of low-grade monsters evolving into medium or high-grade were higher. A high-grade becoming and Demon Baron was also a possibility but it didn’t come often.
Not that the eclipse would come soon. It happened every 10 years and I didn’t have any sense of time here so I didn’t know when the next one would happen.
I began to think about the skills again.
It seemed that I was restricted here. The five skills I currently had were because I was most familiar with them. As the book was written from the Hero’s perspective, I couldn’t possibly know Kannech’s overall skills.
I just happened to know the five skills because it was the most used by Kannech in the novel. He was a healer demon, so there would always be scenes where he'd use Black Healing. I just didn’t know how he used it. The author was lacking when it came to describing enemies using their innate abilities.
It was the same with Illusion. It was a skill that Kannech used the most. He was able to create a mimic version of himself at the cost of his mana and abilities. It meant that an illusion needed to have at least one skill and a continuous amount of mana to be created. The more skills the illusion possessed, the stronger it became. It was also extremely risky.
For example, Erazor made an encounter with one of his illusions in one of his investigations. Before Kannech was able to disperse that illusion, Erazor managed to kill it. Since the illusion possessed a Stealth skill, the skill itself was temporarily destroyed. It took around a month for Kannech to get it back.
The funny thing was, it almost caused the novel to end too since the next encounter Erazor had with the real Kannech, the Demon King almost died. He didn’t have any more Stealth skills with him and was easily detected by the Hero. If it wasn’t for his underling coming in for a rescue, Kannech would’ve died and the novel would’ve ended halfway where it was supposed to be.
Thinking about it, I got goosebumps. I was nowhere as strong as the Hero right now.
All the more reason for me to get Kannech’s skills back and train them to the maximum until it became muscle memories for me. I didn’t know how long I was staying here after all. I also needed to be isolated all the while.
Get stronger while staying hidden. Those were the plans for now.
