This was not how Suzu wanted to end it. He didn’t want to say goodbye to Saku…at least not yet.
No.
He didn’t want to say goodbye at all.
When he didn’t immediately move, however, Jiro’s grip tightened on his arm.
“Suzu. We’re leaving, now.”
“I’m… I’m not going.”
It was like there was a sudden pressure that surrounded them. Jiro was squeezing his arm so tight and it was seriously starting to hurt. Suzu tried to pull away but the other man wouldn’t budge.
“Jiro, stop. You’re hurting me.”
“I said we are leaving now.”
Saku frowned and stepped forward, “Woah, he said he wasn’t going. Let him go.”
“This does not concern you,” Jiro said cooly, giving Suzu a harsh tug.
Suzu stumbled forward, Jiro catching him with his arm but not once breaking the hard stare he was giving Saku.
“Suzu and I have a wedding to attend. Our wedding.”
“Is this how you treat someone you’re about to marry? No wonder Suzu doesn’t want to go with you.”
“Suzu will do what’s expected of him.”
“Maybe you could let Suzu speak for himself?” Suzu finally snapped back, tearing his arm out of Jiro’s grip.
That was definitely going to leave a bruise.
Jiro looked down at him, his eyes sharp and his lips a thin line. It didn’t take a mind reader to tell he was pissed.
And it was a look that made Suzu freeze in place. Whatever bravado he had a moment ago, quickly diminishing.
But then he felt a gentle hand rest on his arm as Saku stood beside him.
“Are you alright?” Saku asked, concern written all over his face.
That was when it clicked. All the doubts he had towards Jiro, there was more to it than his unresolved feelings towards Saku. Sure, if Saku hadn’t appeared when he did it would take longer for Suzu to realize but thankfully that wasn’t the case. The one thing that Jiro lacked that Suzu had been craving was that… Jiro didn’t care. Not in the way Saku did, not in the way Suzu needed. Sure, Saku wasn’t perfect, and he had always been rather selfish but… he still always cared for Suzu. He did things out of concern or out of love for Suzu. While Jiro did what would best suit himself or get him what he wanted. And Suzu had been so caught up in staying committed, he had ignored it. He’d let himself be blind.
But now, Suzu had it plain as day in front of him.
Which made his next decision an easy one.
