I couldn't free myself even when I was trying to bite his paw that he had laid on my shoulder. An instinct, at the bottom of me, reassured me and made me understand that nothing would happen to me and that I could stop struggling. The feeling that had been in my body since I came out of my bed did not subside. It was my wolf spirit that had taken over my human conscience, letting me rest in a corner of my head. The Alpha leaned toward me little by little, his fangs stained with some blood. I waited for the pain that this contact would produce.
Yet, his jaw never scratched my skin and even less my hair. The weight that overloaded my shoulders had vanished, calming my suffering at the same time. I wondered what had been able to remove the black wolf from my back or what could have made him change his mind. I straightened my head which was plunged into the white powder until I saw an imposing silhouette. This silhouette was standing in front of me and I could only see his back and his tail swaying from right to left energetically. The two animals glared at each other, they were ready to jump on each other at any moment.
I tried to get up by pressing a big part of my strength on my good legs but I couldn't do it. Not knowing how to deal with an invalid member was hard. If I had been human, my broken arm wouldn't have posed any problem but, in the form of a wolf, on all fours in the snow, it wasn't really the same problem anymore. I was unbalanced without that paw that was important to keep me up. I felt a look on me and I observed the newcomer that was staring at me with his amber pupils. I recognized him perfectly thanks to the intensity he put in his expression and by his beautiful red flamboyant color.
"Don't move, I will take care of everything..." He whispered in my mind.
I felt a comforting warmth and a protective one that invaded me. I felt so much better. I had the impression that the danger went away while he was still here, facing my savior. The black wolf groaned with discontent at having been interrupted in his tracks and he made us understand it by speaking in our minds.
"Andy... Get the fuck out of here. I don't need you in my paws or in his paws." Growled the black wolf.
"Don't you have more pride as a wolf and as an Alpha, Raven? Tacking a helpless wolf has become your favorite pastime, am I mistaken?Entering his home at night to threaten him is not very gentleman, you know that at least?" Questioned the redhead.
The bloodthirsty beast flung himself on my comrade who dodged in beauty Raven's jaw that closed into the void, creating a loud snap. The black wolf was now in the place where Andy was a few moments earlier. He was watching me with a bad look, he must have thought that I had to reveal everything and it only amplified his desire to penetrate his fangs in my flesh. At that moment, I cursed the red animal for revealing such a thing to him. I watched my attacker, my ears folded as a warning sign to make him keep his distance. My intimidation did not work because he continued to walk toward me, drool sliding from his mouth to crash into the ground.
The leader of the pack, seeing me in trouble, intervened and send his paw to the face of my attacker. The latter narrowly avoided the sharp claws that were at the end of the red limb.
"This story doesn't concern you, it would be stupid to hurt yourself for him, don't you think so, my old friend?" Said the black wolf in an ironic voice.
"I'm not your old friend, I've never been. And also, this story concerns me more than you think." Andy simply replied.
"What do you mean by that, little cub?" The murderer asked, a glimmer of surprise passing through his blood red eyes.
"A pack member must be protected by his Alpha, right?" Replied calmly the other wolf.
"A pack member? Why are you talking about that? I don't see any wolf from your pack here..." The killer started before turning his attention to me. "It's impossible for him to be under your control, Andy. An Omega isn't really easy to bend to your requirements. So you couldn't..."
"So, you knew what he was? I see. Would that be why you transformed him?" Asked the redhead, interested.
"Who do you take me for? Don't tell me you never noticed it? You were so close to him every day.." Said the dark beast. "I have been tracking him for far too long to leave him so easily, little wolf. It's impossible for him to be a part of your pack, you..."
"He simply submitted to me in his wolf form." Articulated his opponent.
"Stop talking about me as if I wasn't here! I exist and I demand to know the details of the conversation that's currently happening between you two! I don't understand what you're saying so explain to me!" I clamored, annoyed at being forgotten.
"Shut up, you'll have all the explanations you want... Later." Grunted Andy, annoyed.
"He doesn't seem very submissive so excuse me but I doubt your argument." Laughed the black Alpha. "Ah, unless there is another reason why you are interested in him... Are you finally falling into the trap of the wolf?"
This time the expression of indifference displayed so far by my savior disappeared. His expression changed at the pronunciation of this sentence. He began to growl, more aggressive than ever. It didn't seem to bother Raven who seemed amused by this whole situation. His eyes went from his rival to me, who didn't understand what they were talking about. I was feeling like I was in the class of Mrs Cannac honestly. I didn't think I would be able to see her classes the same way ever again.
"That was it then. I finally got my answer without your help.. A link like this between an Alpha and an Omega is interesting. Would you have found your soul mate in this old Andy, Ethan?" Asked the black wolf.
It didn't take more for the leader of the pack to throw himself on him. He had just entered into a crazy rage. I didn't really understand why he was so upset at the simple word "soul mate". What had interested me the most was the pronunciation of the word "link", it had many answers that I didn't know yet. Or at least that I couldn't understand yet. The fight was raging, moans of pain and screams had disturbed the calm that had prevailed in the small clearing. Blood was sticking to the fur of the wolves, their sharp fangs were sinking hard into their flesh and their claws were deep cut into the skin that was so fragile under that thick layer of hairs.
I wanted to get up and go help Andy but I would have only embarrassed myself and took the risk of being hurt again. They were too big and strong for me. I was helpless against the monstrous power of these two rabid beasts. Raven was thrown to the ground after being hit by the red Alpha, the first got up while shaking. He had groaned almost inaudibly as he fell heavily on a patch of ice that was covered by snow. Neither of them let the other take over, the blows they gave themselves were sent back to the other wolf.
That's why Andy was also sent to the ground after violently hitting a tree at the edge of the clearing. I had become worried, the shock had been rough and I was afraid that he wouldn't get back up. Raven could have broken his spine if he had put a little more strength. I watched him, the one who tried to save me, he was still struck by the shock that his body had just suffered. My attacker was coming toward him, ready to plunge his fangs into his neck. I didn't know how I got there but my body got up on its own. It was more driven by a deep instinct than by my conscience.
I approached the black Alpha as fast as I could before pushing on my legs to plunge my fangs into the back of the dominant. The latter let out his pain in a sonorous scream as my teeth and his flesh came into contact. He turned his head, rage shining in the depths of his red eyes. Maybe I should have jumped on his back a little further, it would have avoided me to get so close to his fangs. He planted his fangs in my shoulder and pulled, making me let go. He sent me on the ground a few meters away, making me let out a yelp of pain due to my broken paw.
The dark beast had once again changed its target which used to be Andy before. He was now walking in my directing aggressively. The gleam in his eyes had changed. It had become crazier and more savage. I stayed on the ground. This time I couldn't really move. Raven's shadow loomed over me before disappearing, struck by the flickering silhouette of the red wolf. My attacker got up, spitting the snow that he had swallowed before turning to us. He was about to start the assault when he stopped short, his ears tense. In the distance, the howling of several wolves had risen, making the bloody beast take a few steps backward.
He hesitated but, after a look in my direction, he decided to fled into the bushes. Moments later, black and red furry animals had come past us, running after the enemy. Andy was slowly gaining his strength back until a silver haired wolf stood in front of us. The wolf gave me a worried look before turning her pupils toward the pack leader, attentively. Apparently, he spoke to her in spirit as he didn't want me to listen to what they were saying. Lana came to put her nose against mine as a sign of comfort before disappearing in search of something. The red wolf approached me before lying by my side thus sticking to my fur. For the first time, I let myself go and even enjoyed the warmth and protection his body gave me.
"You should have told us for Raven. It would have avoided you to find yourself in such a dangerous position." He whispered into my mind. "You were lucky that I arrived in time..."
"Thank you..." I said, snuggling closer to him. I couldn't say anything. I didn't understand why but it was just that the words couldn't come out of my mouth. "He had threatened to kill you..."
"He has always wanted to kill me." He explained, somewhat surprised at my gesture. "He never changed his plans until he started attacking you."
"Speaking of attacking me... You seem to know a lot of things. You have lots of things to explain to me..." I grunted, annoyed at the fact that I knew nothing. "But before that, I have to come back home to look at my broken bone and go to the hospital."
"You won't be able to move. Don't worry, you will come home." Andy said. "I can't take you home, especially if your mother is already back there. The police will be around and I don't want to take any chances. Lana has gone to seek help. It won't be long until she's back, no worries."
A loud noise rang out all over the forest and the silver wolf came running, taking Andy with her. Before he ran away, he had been careful not to let my head fall too hard on the icy ground. I couldn't stay in my animal form. It was a human and I didn't even want to imagine his face if he saw me under my wolf appearance. I was in such a pain that, when I transformed myself in my human form, my transformation didn't hurt at all. I was lying on the snow and my arm was blue because of my broken bone. My body was full of bites and red scratched. At least the blood had stopped flowing.
A silhouette then appeared near a tree. That person ran up to me, a rifle pointed upwards so as not to accidentally shoot and kill me at the same time. The stranger stopped the instant he saw the mutilated body torn apart by the powerful fangs of Raven. I was surprised to see him so calm against this horrible, bloody spectacle but what I feared happened. His stomach emptied at his feet. If he hadn't done it, I would have found it strange. He was now pale like snow and you could see that he was not feeling well.
However, after looking away from the corpse, he started walking silently toward me and put two fingers on my cold neck. He was surprised to see that my pulse was still beating and he didn't really know what to do. I was shivering, I was frozen and I couldn't feel my body because of the thick white coat I was on. I knew, however, that now I was finally safe. Andy had made sure of it by choosing this hunter. He took off the coat that was on his shoulders and wrapped me up with it before gently lifting me up.
A grimace of pain appeared on my face. I felt a great presence in the forest. That presence was keeping an eye on me from the shadows of the trees. I felt the tension settle in the air since the hunted had lifted me to take me away from this sinister place. I could have thought that the wolf watching me was jealous to see me in the arms of someone else. My eyelids were closing themselves little by little. I was so tired that the pain itself couldn't tear me away from the feeling of sleepiness that I was currently feeling.
"Thank you.." I said in a small voice.
It was my last words before I sank into my dreams and my nightmares, lulled by the hunter's flexible and rhythmic walk.
