Chapter 11: Buried secrets

Chapter 11: Buried secrets

Oct 03, 2021

The calm of the forest was gone. The birds no longer let their soft melodies be heard, the prey had fled to protect themselves from the fight between two groups of the same species. The silence had been replaced by screams of challenge, pain and distress from wolves in the middle of the fight. The fight wasn't balanced, our opponents were at the number of four while our group was composed of only three members. We had no chance to get out in such conditions. I would have liked to be able to join my comrades to help them but I had another problem to solve.

I was trapped between the sharp fangs of the Alpha. I couldn't free myself from the grip of the black wolf and I didn't dare to attempt any movement unless I wanted to have my neck torn and see it in pieces like a vulgar prey. I tried to make him let go by encouraging him to believe that he had won and that I stopped struggling. To do so, my tail was low, my head was tilted down and I no longer struggled. My trick didn't seem very efficient as Raven didn't seem to be deceived by my so simple strategy.

"You're really hopeless. Just thinking that you could save your miserable friends by coming with me." Said the black wolf. "Now, you will have to go to a different show than the one you saw the last time. You will have the opportunity to observe these two cubs emptying themselves of their blood, little by little..."

My eyes went in the direction of my comrades whose wounds were clearly visible. Michael had his gray fur stained with blood. The red liquid falling from his mouth and many cuts on his back legs and he was on the ground because of Sam. Roy had marked hairs, tufts of torn hair were visible all over the floor. He was limping sternly while trying to repel his two attackers, Dean and Castiel whom he persisted in fighting. My eyes met the amber ones of the youngest animal in Andy's pack. You could read all his determination and his will not to give up and to fight until the end.

They knew that this pack was after me. Roy and Michael could have left me here but they hadn't done it. I didn't want to see them die here for me. Moreover, the wounds that sprinkled their bodies were too important for them to hope to stop them. The rest of the red Alpha's pack was still far from this battlefield, none of their smells reached my well developed sense of smell. A suspicious emanation still attracted my attention and I couldn't put a name on this scent. It was a mixture of burnt wood and cinnamon.

While watching for any apparition, I hadn't paid attention to the thick, ominous fog that had just entered the battle field. It wasn't an advantage because this element incredibly reduced my visibility to see what was happening around me. The moon was slowly beginning to rise, it was clearly visible through the trees that were high in the sky. The wind was also coming back, bringing with it the strong smell of perfume that I had captured a few moments ago. My ears rose, just like those of all the wolves present in this little clearing. A wrenching scream split the silence that reigned in the depths of the forest.

A shiver ran through my body and all my muscles stiffened. This sound was familiar to me as was the smell that spread around. My neck was hurting me horribly and a pool of blood was spreading visibly on the ground. The pressure on my neck was less important than before but the pain was much more present. I would surely keep the marks, if I managed to come out alive of this new problem. The same howling was heard again, more powerful than the previous one. The animal was closer. The predator had to be fast to get close to us in such a short time.

Our sensible ears had taken a blow, I never heard a sound of this power. A twig snapped about ten meters in front of us as a silhouette was walking toward us. It was hard to see what the animal looked like as the fog was clearly disrupting our vision. Raven's jaw unlocked, finally letting his fangs leave my flesh. He had decided on this movement just as a wolf's body was crossing the thick fog. His emerald green eyes bewitched me, as did his flaming fur which, on the moon's shine, had silvery reflections.

I didn't know why but crossing his eyes made me want to respect him and my eyes automatically lowered to the ground. My head was spinning and my vision was beginning to be troubled. When my body took a step to join my comrades, my paws shifted under my weight. My white hairs were now full of blood. I had just fallen into the red liquid under me. I raised my head, always keeping a rather reduced view. I could notice the arrival of a female white wolf, not far behind a male. His eyes were on me, I could feel his gaze on my bruised neck. Unfortunately, I couldn't see the expression on his face.

The groan that echoed at my side reminded me of Raven and his pack. Sam and Castiel had walked back until they found themselves alongside their Alpha. The latter was much more threatening than usual, the presence of the two newcomers didn't seem to please the black monster.

"What are you going to do here after these sixteen and a half years of absence... Fallen Wolf?" The black wolf grumbled in anger. "You have been dethroned from your title of Alpha and exiled from this earth... You don't have the authorization to walk this soil with your paws... Just as she has no more right to chance, she, who had abandoned her wolf after their death... You two are both fallen wolves."

His gaze had been on the white animal in question. The female hearing these last words had put all of her anger toward the black wolf. The female wolf was ready to attack and her snow white fangs were well exposed. It was easy to notice that the light colored animal wanted to jump to the neck of the black Alpha. If the former pack leader hadn't been there, she would have made a huge mistake. The fallen wolf emitted a few grunts to warn his companion.

"Don't worry, I'm not here for you.... Even if I would love to put my fangs into your neck." Replied the red animal. "I'm just passing by to prevent another massacre and to protect those who matter to me."

"Prevent? Protect? You? Let me laugh. You can't prevent anything... Just as you can't protect anything... You've already had proofs, will you ever learn?"

I felt in the surrounding air that the tension had began to get worse and I could hear the slight grunt coming out of the mouth of the old Alpha and the howl of rage that tried to hide the female wolf as much as she could. New smells then attracted my attention. I was still struggling to find a suitable view and my head was still hurting but I was sure to recognize the smell emanating from those who were about to arrive. The crunching of the branches made me understand that the two wolves had turned around after having, too, felt the same perfume as me.

Raven then turned to me. He was about to put his mouth into my neck to lift me, like mothers do with their offspring but he was sent to the ground before even being able to tighten his fangs against my fur that was stained with red. A flash of red fur passed before me, I could finally breath. They had arrived in time. The whole pack was present to fight the enemy. Roy and Michael were helped by Lana and Sylvie while the rest of the pack prevented the four wolves from approaching. Andy was standing in front of me, he turned his head in my direction to watch me. My condition must have been very pitiful to see. My white fur must have become completely red.

A groan made the opponents react. They went back into the woods as Louis, Thomas, Jack and Sylvie were on their heels while Lana finished helping the two wounded wolves. My eyes had returned to normal, my blood had coagulated which allowed me to lose less blood than before. The Alpha turned to me and I could read the fear in his eyes.

"It's alright, I'm fine.... Don't worry about me..."

"You're not well, that's the problem."

"You're saying nonsense. Look, I can walk like a normal person."

I wasn't feeling well and that was when he really noticed it. If he hadn't been there to support my weight, I would have fallen heavily to the ground. The four wolves who had gone in pursuit of the adversaries then came back, out of breath from their mad run.

"Louis, Thomas, Jack and Lana take care of Roy and Michael and bring them home." Ordered Andy. "Sylvie, you come with me. We need to take him home."

"How do you want him to heal on his own? He lost too much blood!" Exclaimed the wolf, supporting me on the other side.

"His mother will know how to heal him..."

"Tell me, Andy... You know all the wolves of this forest, no?"

"Yes."

"So tell me... Who is this white wolf with amber eyes and who is the red one with emerald eyes?" I questioned without taking my eyes off him.

He didn't answer me. I felt that he had just shivered just by hearing their description. I wanted to know the answer to my question but I knew that he wouldn't give me any explanation. So we started to walk, the two wolves holding me on each side to help me move. I felt soothed by the Alpha who supported me. I had to make them the same effect because the tension which inhabited them gradually diminished. My thoughts turned to Andy. I wanted to tease him but it wasn't the moment, not after what had happened. My eyes were stuck on the amber eyes of the red wolf, even in his animal form he was sexy...

I was interrupted in my contemplation by the head movement of the leader, who had of course noticed my fixation on him for a few minutes already. I didn't immediately look away but when I did, it was just when my sense of smell detected a smell that I knew. I was trying to guess who this fragrance belonged to. It was the smell of the white wolf and the red one... What a strange coincidence... My dream came back to me. The snow haired female and the familiar grunt of the male that was in the back were similar to those met a few moments earlier. Looking back, many elements corresponded.

Especially for the mother: light fur, amber eyes, rather tall but thin body, almost identical growling... Would it be possible that my dream was related to this wolf? I had to search for more information on these two animals even if it meant poking around here and there. The sudden stop of the two animals at my side brought me back to reality. We were at the entrance of my garden which was located in front of the forest.

"Go home Sylvie and rest." Ordered the Alpha in a hoarse voice. "No one will be on guard duty this evening. It will be time to put the ideas back in place in this black dog and, to do this, I need everyone in shape."

"And you? What are you going to do?"

"I want to make sure there's no danger around Ethan's house and then I'll go back home."

"You don't have to stay around, you know. I could handle myself alone. I'm not three anymore."

"My words were not a question."

I let out a slight growl. I didn't like when he took that tone with me. He had heard my frustration and he turned a dark look on me, showing me that he didn't want to hear any protest from me. My lips rolled up slightly for a few seconds before I stopped. I wasn't in a position to look for trouble. I touched the tip of Sylvie's nose with mine to say goodbye and to thank her before heading, hobbling heavily, to the inside of the house.

Fortunately when I left that morning, I left the window open in case my mother hadn't returned yet. I wondered what she was doing, usually at that time she was already there for a long time. It was at least nine pm and she still hadn't pointed the tip of her nose. Well, she was probably going to be there soon, she was surely delayed. As soon as I entered, I headed for the bathroom on the ground floor to resume to my human form to heal my wounds and to put something on my back. I opted for shorts with a tank top so I could move freely without rubbing my already very painful wounds.

One of them especially made me suffer a lot. The bite mark on my neck was deeper than I first thought. While I was in the room, Andy had preferred, for security, to go around the inside and outside of the house to look if there was no dangers. When he entered the living room, I was barely coming out of the bathroom, one hand on the back of my neck. He looked at me for a few minutes with a strange look. His eyes went from my face to my neck.

"It's alright. It doesn't hurt that much..." I sighed, understanding what he meant. "Wait here two minutes, I'll get you something to change into so that you can resume to your human form. I wouldn't want my mother to find a wolf at home, she might think I bought a new pet."

I saw him scowl when the word "mother" came out of my mouth but I said nothing, just going upstairs. I was limping, some wounds present in my wolf form had already disappeared. I headed for the closet upstairs to get an old shirt and pants wide enough that should go perfectly to the one who was currently downstairs. I went back downstairs, putting the clothes a few millimeters away from the body of the Alpha. I saw him sniffing the end of the fabric, pulling his ears back as if he had smelled something he didn't like. He raised his head and looked questioningly at me.

"The clothes belonged to my father. I never understood why my mother wanted to keep them."

He sat down and looked from the clothes to me and from me to the clothes and he started again. I was trying to understand what he was trying to tell me. He couldn't talk to me through our minds or what?

"Do you want me to go get you a bathrobe?" I asked, ironically.

He stared at me until I realized that was what he wanted. I rolled my eyes, exhausted. I showed him the bathroom so he could change before sitting on the couch and watching TV. About ten minutes later, he resurfaced while sitting next to me. My hand was on the remote and he took this opportunity to put his on my neck. I couldn't help but let out a small cry of pain as I pulled away from him hurriedly.

"Indeed, this injury doesn't hurt you at all. It looks deep. Raven hasn't been gentle. He could have broke your neck. No but what did he expect?"

"No need to exaggerate. And, it could have ended much worse than that for all of us."

A rattling in the lock of the front door made me raise my head. Andy escaped immediately by the door leading to the garden. He threw me one last look before taking a path in the forest. I started laughing alone, we could say that he didn't wait to get away. I watched the person walk by the door, the smell that rushed into the house gave me chills and made me frown. My mother's perfume was different. It was mixed with a perfume of a male.

The smell that I could perceive was familiar to me, even too familiar. Celine put her keys on the kitchen table before coming to say hello. That was when I really felt it. The smell of wolf was permeating her clothes. I had stiffened. Why does my mother had the perfume of a werewolf? She went away almost immediately. One could have thought that she had felt my heart accelerate its movement in my chest.

Mom has many secrets. I’m curious about the history between her and Andy because Andy doesn’t want to be anywhere near Ethan’s mom.
