Elliot's Diary

2. My big mistakes

2. My big mistakes

Sep 28, 2021

19th March, 9023 Nulla Meridianus year.

I must admit, my perfect counting turned out to be not that perfect in the end. I did not include transport costs, unexpected wastes and the fact, that the object who was previously capable only of changing his position on the sofa, will suddenly start actively stealing my food from the fridge.

Another unpleasant surprise expected me as I started looking for a job. Apparently, your diploma does not mean much without any valid experiences in the sphere. That is why tomorrow I, accountant and mathematician with several degrees, start my labour activity as a cleaner at a local bakery.

My employed, an old lady with untidy gray hair, lectured me for half an hour before finally accepting my application. From her point of view, young people like me fail at nearly everything we do. I must admit, she has a point, I indeed fail so often, that it must be already illegal. But still, why does every previous generation think so poorly about the next one?

However, I am no exception to this rule. The children with whom I live keep pushing the boundaries of my bewilderment. The youngest son, who is barely 5 years old, shared with me yesterday, that he dreams of stealing a gun from a policeman once. I previously assumed, that boys at his age are supposed to dream of becoming policemen, but apparently life in this particular suburb functions according to some other rules. At least the small one is clear with his plans for the future, unlike me.

Tonight, I dreamed about home again. My beautiful Terra Montes, your breath-taking sunsets will forever remain in my memory. Many of the things I had to leave behind will remain in my memory and in my heart. I sincerely hope, my half-blood sister, whose noble groom demanded my exile, will be happy in marriage with this obviously good-natured decent man.

Anyways, I am starting my job tomorrow. So far I have 1340 ards left. If everything goes according to my plan, soon I will have enough money for a slightly better place to live. Or at least, enough to hire a hitman for the three little demons and this shapeless substance they call “father”.
