Leticia had a new perspective of what lies ahead of the group, after Amelia had told the group her secret. The Rise of Light was a group that needed to be stopped, but what do a couple of nineteen-year-olds do about stopping them? Since arriving in Melicona, she had somewhat improved on handling her powers by memorizing the lessons the cult taught her, but it was not enough! Leticia's other additional powers haven't revealed itself yet. Lately, the former guitarist noticed odd things were happening around her. Things such as, whenever she walks by someone, they either burst into tears or go into a fit of rage. Then, when Leticia walks away, the person just goes to back feeling themselves again.
It was weird at first, but the former guitarist thought of nothing, until she remembered that her long awaited abilities: Empathy Manipulation!
She thought: "Odd? Why suddenly these abilities came so late?"
“That’s what happens when you have the Biological Magical Negation Stimulation device in for a very long time…” Mara explained, pouring some tea in both Leticia’s and her teacups.
The two of them were sitting down in the office together, with Leticia stirring in some sugar and cream into her teacup. Looking outside the window, the former guitarist clutched her palms together nervously. She sometimes did not like how her powers affected other people and worried that she may end up hurting them. Despite practicing her powers for a very long time, Leticia feared losing control and hurting someone constantly. Practice was not enough, especially when these new abilities were just developing now!
“I understand how you feel, dear,” Mara lifts her cup, then takes a sip of her tea again. “When the device first came out, it was unpopular among the Supernaturals, who lived in Supernatural territories unlike; those who lived in the Anchor Towns.” Putting down her cup, Mara pushed her chair back to get up from her seat. “Us, some supernatural medical professionals, didn’t agree with outsider medical professionals using it on young Supernaturals, who don’t even need it. We warned them that the device had problems when it first came out. Unfortunately, people like you and Chantel ended up becoming victims of this problem,” the woman told her.
Leticia watched Mara, who moved to the bookshelf, pulling out one book. The woman still continued talking, “Okay, I think I get that, but what do I need to do to get these powers under control?”
Mara licked her lips together and said, “I think I have a way, but it will take some agreement on your part. I will come back later with an informed answer.”
The former guitarist blinked at the woman, but remained silent in her seat. Leticia guessed there will be more surprises for her later.
For the next couple of days, she was still waiting for Mara’s solution to her power management issue. Laying on her bed, in the room she shared with Chantel, it bore her after spending almost a month in Melcona. Leticia, Darren, and Chantel could not explore around the town unless it was under Mara and the staff’s permission. She wanted to, at least, go clothes shopping, not have Amelia do the shopping for her! The music magic mage always missed her unique fashion style whenever she went out to get Leticia’s clothes.
Despite that, the former guitarist still appreciated Amelia’s attempt to make her feel at home. Still, she worried about everyone. From Amelia to her former band members, Leticia tried to be more sympathetic to others. It was still a pain to not call Darren and Chantel by their real names, since they still have to remain unnoticed by the residents of Nightfall Retreat. Soon, the door of the room swings open as Leticia sits up from her bed, seeing Chantel entering the room. The girl was hauling some boxes into the room.
Getting up from the bed, she helped Chantel get all the stuff in the room. Noticing the boxes, Leticia assumed that these were the boxes that Mara told them that their friends back at home will send stuff to them. Once all the boxes were in the room, the two girls started opening all of them up, using whatever sharp thing they could find. One by one, the girls rummaged through all the boxes with their faces in shock at the items they received. Leticia pulled out a guitar case in one of the big boxes.
She put the guitar case on her bed and finding the keys to open it. Using the keys, Leticia unlocked the case, then pulled out her guitar, Chaos out of it. Right next to Chaos, there was an envelope. She picked it up, ripping the envelope open. Reading a white note, she recognized the messy and scribble handwriting right away.
“Trenton….” Leticia whispered with a smile, finishing reading the note. She was only the few people that one that could read her boyfriend’s bad handwriting.
Based on what she could make out of Trenton's note, he wrote about what had happened since she was last in Clare Point View. He explained about how he was taking care of her father, since her mother and younger brother had to flee from the city. Leticia learned that the scandal and the Rockwick massacre changed everyone’s lives around the town. All she could worry about was what happened to her mother and younger brother, Miguel. There was a bit of guilt that flooded into her mind: It was a mistake to meet the Rise of Light.
Her curiosity ruined everyone’s life, and she wished she could go back in time to change everything.
“Luciana, Cora! Mara wants to see you!” The little, bubblegum-haired girl, Rine Stone, opened the door to the girls' room.
It was still weird to be known by another name among the other residents. Stopping whatever they were doing, the two girls looked at each other, then put everything down and went to meet with Mara. When they exited the room, Chantel took out a key, locking the door before heading off. The two girls arrived back in her office to meet the woman, who has two mirrors this time. As Leticia sat down in one chair, she wondered what the purpose of this meeting was.
Mara cleared her throat while the girls settled in their seats. Leticia waited for the witch to say something. Mara seated herself at her desk and said, “You girls have told me about your troubles, regarding your powers. Let me just say I had to resort to unfavorable methods to find teachers. I will say, you two need to be open to having someone teaching you, since Bio-kinesis hide in Supernatural communities. They are very hard to find and those that are found usually get kicked out of the towns or in jail. Obviously, the ones that are in jail have been with the cult…”
After listening to the woman’s explanations, Leticia exclaimed, “So… Are you saying that we might have criminals be our teachers?!”
“Did you not listen to what I said that you need to be open with your options earlier? Looking for a Bio-Kinesis to teach you about your abilities can be a challenge to find, but not impossible. However, Empathy Manipulation Bio-Kinesises are harder to find, since they are so rare. You have very limited options at your disposal. I suggest you open your minds and choose wisely with your decisions,” Mara’s eyes glared at Leticia tensely, making her back down on arguing with the witch.
“I just have one question, Mara. How do we know these criminals won’t hurt us?” Chantel asked.
“Because they are being heavily guarded. These prisoners rarely get visitors. They have been mostly on exemplary behavior. They are former Rise of Light members, but they committed some crimes while they were still in the cult. Now they are doing their time for it. They are the rare ones that have similar abilities to yours,”
“I see…” Leticia put her head down then glances down at her hands, reflecting her choice.
Working with criminals would be dicey, but what choice do Chantel and her have at this point? Like Mara said; they had limited options. All Leticia could hope was that she could get a handle on everything before it's too late.
