Chapter 2-Step Two

Chapter 2-Step Two

Sep 28, 2021

I quietly sat in the back of the truck pressing against my wounded shoulder tightly as the driver broke every speed limit getting us back to base. Mike was just laughing while he looked through all the bags filled to the brim with cash, and Tim?

He looked like he wanted nothing to do with what had happened, which was honestly pretty understandable. It was definitely something I could relate to.

Of course with him always having a mask on, I was judging this based on his body language which honestly made me curious.

Why did he have a mask on? Was he hiding something? It was a possibility that I honestly wanted to look into, even though it was completely irrelevant to everything I was supposed to be doing.

"Well, the mission was a success. Everything worked out" Mike spat out laughing.

"Ya ya whatever, just get out the truck," the driver told us as we came to a halt.

Immediately hopping off, I quickly walked over to our base which was basically a sewer, to see none other than the top dog himself, Kylo, waiting for us.

He gave a slight grin, exposing his crooked golden teeth, at the sight of our arrival. And just seeing him made me clench my jaw. Because I knew he was nothing but a damn murderer. A murderer that would pay eventually.

"Well well, you guys actually made it back huh" he amusingly said, laughing.

"Mission was a success, there were no casualties," Mike explained as he threw all the bags over to Kylo.

"Very well, Scott and Tim. Both of you can leave, but Mike, you stay right here. I have to talk to you about something," Kylo told all of us.

Tim walked away and I made sure to follow him, but I also made sure not to walk away too far. Why? It's because I knew I would have to listen in on Mike and Kylo's conversation. I knew it would give me important info, so I stayed as close as I possibly could making sure no one could see me while I eavesdropped.

"Well, the bank robbery was a success. Now for step two, go to the museum tomorrow and just get what we need" Kylo uttered.

"Ya got it" Mike replied. Right after that, I heard soft but vivid footsteps coming my way. Knowing that was my queue, I immediately ran away heading over to the closest bench I could find, so that I could sit down, patch up my shoulder and try to answer all the questions that were popping up in my head.

Questions like what on earth did Kylo mean by step two? Why was he sending Mike to the museum? What the heck was Mike even gonna get from the museum? Those kinds of questions.

"Hey, you don't like this gig huh". I heard someone say.

I looked in front of me to see Tim walking towards me, his heavy mask cluttered around with each step he took.

"Nah" I replied.

Chuckling, Tim sat down beside me and just looked up.

"Ya, that makes sense. This place sucks, lots of better places to be" he quietly told me.

"Then why are you here?" I asked.

"Well, I got my reasons. Just like you" he responded.

"What do you mean by that?" I queried in a slightly interrogative manner.

"Hey come on, chill out man. I don't mean anything by it specifically" he replied.

"Do your reasons have anything to do with that mask?" I asked in a lighter tone.

"You're a smart guy Scott, but ya. I guess you could say that," he said.

I replied with nothing but a stare.

"What happened?" he asked.

"Oh sorry, what you said. It, it reminded me of a friend is all".

 "Oh, I see," he replied.

I was about to just walk off when I remembered something from earlier.

"Hey, you didn't use your gun today. Why was that?" I asked.

"Let's just say I got boundaries, killing people is not something I'm gonna do. I'm guessing you're the same way huh. You didn't pull the trigger either".

"Ya, I guess" I replied.

"Well Scott, it was good talking to you". He then walked away without saying another word.

"Ya..." I said confusingly.

I had honestly learned a lot more about Tim just because of that one conversation, but I really didn't care about that at the moment. What I did care about was the info I had recently gotten from Mike and Kylo's conversation.

So, I quickly wrote everything I knew in a notebook and put it away. I then closed my eyes and in a matter of just seconds. I quickly fell asleep.

In a way, it feels like it's going too fast, but you're also doing your best not to reveal anything too soon.
