Cecelia Adams was having the time of her life. She has spent most of her freshman man year trying to get the attention of Billy Parker and now she had it, in excess. In middle school she had been an all A's student. She had learned first hand that nobody liked a know it all, especially a fat one.
The Cecelia Adams who started freshman year at Brentwood was not the same Cecelia from middle school, she had changed. Over the summer she had followed a strict diet, much to the dismay of her single mother who said she was ruining her perfect body. She had lost forty pounds and had switched her glasses for contact lens. This Cecelia had only one goal in mind, to become popular. And so far so good all had worked out well, until she met Billy.
Billy was a semi popular quarter back and even an Elite. He was also one of the hottest boys in school, if not the hottest. Back then when she had first saw billy she had thought. Oh God we would look so good together, but now it was more than that she didn't want Billy just because of his popularity which by dating him would also become hers, she didn't want him because of how he was cute and how his blue eyes danced when he smiled.
She wanted him because of how she felt safe when she was with him, of how he listened to everything about her even the things she didn't say. When he had bent his head and whispered that he liked her she had thought she was dreaming, but the kiss after was no dream.
Right now they were in a tent making out in the woods. Billy had wanted to camp out in the woods and even though it was a school day she hadn't objected.
"... I said are you cold?". Billy said disrupting her flow of thoughts.
"How can I be cold? Your like a heater". Her cheeks burned when she realized what she had said.
"Oh my God, that sounded so much better in my head. That's so cheesy". Billy laughed and leaned closer.
"Luckily for you I'm used to cheese". And leaned in to kiss her. Her nostrils were overwhelmed with the smell of soap and cheap cologne, but at that moment nothing could have smelled better to Cecelia. Her heart did jumping jacks as their lips met and her Stomach felt like it was full of helium. She could feel Billy's hand exploring and she was about start her own exploring when she heard a sound in the bush.
Billy apparently heard it as well because he stopped.
"I think there's something or someone out there I should probably go and check it". And before she could say anything he walked out of the tent. She always hated this about him, how he did things impulsively without thinking, didn't he know that you weren't supposed to split up, never, that's rule number one in horror movies.
While she waited she fantasized about her and Billy a few years from now. He didn't want to go to college, he said wanted to work immediately after high school. He could get a job down at Montpelier while she schooled at the university of Idaho, and on weekends she could still come and see him. A scream pierced the quiet air. The birds stopped chirping and there was a rush of wings as they flew away.
Cecelia's chest seized up, something was out there, it could be a grizzly bear or anything. And Billy was still out there, she had to get billy and they had to leave this place, immediately.
She stepped out of the tent and looked out. The sky was clear and it was a beautiful day, but Cecelia's heart felt dark. Something red moved at the corner of her vision. She looked at it and screamed.
Billy her boyfriend was walking towards her, more of a stagger really. But that was not why she screamed. She screamed because he was on fire, and apparently he wasn't burning, not in the normal sense of how a person would burn. The smell of burning flesh filled the clearing and he had splotches over his face most probably burn marks but that was all except for that and the haunted eyes billy was pretty much 'alright' . The smell of Billy who she had just made out with clogged her nose, Who She had planned a future with, who was now looking like a demon who had decided today was a good day to pop out of hell for a walk.
She turned and tried to run, but her knees had turned to Jell-O. The thing which looked like billy but wasn't billy still kept on walking towards her. It couldn't be Billy. Billy wouldn't see harm herself and not be concerned. Once she had sprained her ankle and he had taken her all the way to the hospital, he had stood outside pacing till the doctor fixed her leg, and she remembered looking at him and thinking that he looked like a man waiting for his pregnant wife.
Tears seeped through her eyes, her throat hurt and she heard screaming. The thing stood above and slowly started crouching with its arms outstretched. Just before they reached her Cecelia realized that the reason her throat hurt was because she was the one screaming.
The arts room was dusty, and smelled of lack of use. The arts room, libraries and science labs were housed in a separate block from the classrooms, so it sometimes went days without being cleaned, or as in the case of the arts room, weeks. But a little dirt wasn't going to discourage Jason, he had come here to avoid going back to the home early.
He placed a stool by the wall and sat on it. he brought out his iPod and surfed through it. Today had been a mess and he needed something to help him cool off. He picked a Jon Bellion track and closed his eyes. While he listened to Jon Bellion singing about lost love he slept off, and dreamed.
This dream was different from most of his dreams. He walked down a street. The street looked familiar but he had no idea were he had seen it before. A heavy Rain was falling bit he wasn't wet or cold. Ahead of him was a crowd, they were silent as if whatever they were watching deserved their attention more than anything else. Jason ran up to them to see what was happening. A small path in the crowd opened and Jason ran along it.
In the middle of the crowd a red haired woman crouched in front of a red haired boy. Jason immediately recognized the scene, he tried to walk away but his feet refused to obey him.
The woman walked away and the boy ran after her crying and yelling. When the woman burst into flames the boy fell back speechless. Jason felt hot and realized that the crowd was also burning, the flame didn't seem to bother them much, that is for someone who was on fire. Except a patch of skin here and there, and the occasional lock of hair. Soon they were looking like walking corpses. The woman and the crowd walked towards the boy with hands outstretched while The boy tried to scuffle away. Jason tried to run and help the boy but his feet still refused to move, he tried to tell but nothing happened, meanwhile his eyes stung and the heat got worse.
The boy suddenly got up, finally Jason breathed in relief Run boy! Run.
And to his horror Jason realized the boy was also on fire. The boy looked up at him, clothes tattered, face burnt and the boy smiled.
Jason woke up with a start, he was about to breath out in relief when he realized the building was on fire. Out of the frying pan and into the fire.
Author's note: I'm very sorry for any typos, I'm an amateur after all.
