Scarlett walked towards Amber's house so they could walk to school together. It was a cool day, sunny with leaves whooshing around. The breeze could make you feel free. KNOCK KNOCK. The sound disrupted Amber's soundless sleep.
"Huh?" Amber looked at her clock, "IM SO LATE" she screamed. She rushed downstairs pulling on her outfit as fast as she could. Her mom was waiting for her with Amber's little sister.
"You want a ride?" she asked.
"No it's fine Scarlett and I are walking together" Amber answered.
"Ok, have a nice day then!" her mom called “Good luck for your first day of 7th grade!”
"Bye mom!" Amber closed the door and locked it. "Hey Scarlett," Amber said happily.
"Oh hey Amber, dreary day huh?" Scarlett was wearing a red t-shirt with the bottom and sleeves trimmed with white doily. Her fringy jean shorts were tie dyed with red and slightly acid washed, her shoes a red and white checker pattern.
"Yeah but it's September right? It's always yucky on the first day, '' Amber responded. She looked at her own outfit she planned the day before. A green shirt with a large purple flower that was so beautiful and realistic. Her skirt was long and pearly blue and her shoes were tan boots she painted a wave on.
"Yeah I guess" Scarlett responded to Amber's comment. A little while passed. They talked and laughed and remembered the wonderful summer they had had. Soon enough they were at the school. They went to their homeroom and sat down. The teacher they saw looked new but on the first day there were a lot of new teachers. Amber tried greeting the teacher.
"Hello Mr............." She didn't know his name.
"Sepher. Just call me Mr. Sepher or Mr. S if that's easier" He told her.
"Oh ok. Then hello Mr. S" Amber responded. She giggled. Sitting down in her seat she started to play with her clear water bottle. She gazed off and thought about flying because of a book she was reading. It was about a girl who could fly on a broomstick because she was a witch but she was a good one not a bad one.
"Amber?" a voice broke her thoughts. "Amber the bell just rang, we need to get to our next class " Scarlett told her, getting mildly annoyed.
“Alright, alright” Amber replied grabbing her stuff “I know you don’t like being late”
“YES I DON’T SO LET'S GET GOING”
“Fine,” Amber said with a joking sigh.
As they headed for their lockers they saw Annabelle and Layla waiting for them to go to the first period together. Annabelle looked up and saw them.
“Hi guys, we've been waiting for you!” she exclaimed her sleek and shiny red hair bouncing.
Annabelle was very pretty. She had stomach length ginger hair, bright green eyes and fair skin with a splash of freckles. She was wearing a white knee length dress embroidered with olive green vines and small purple flowers. Annabelle was always smiling and outgoing.
“Yeah,” Layla said quietly.
Layla was more shy than Annabelle but very kind. She, like Annabelle, was very pretty. She had long shiny dark hair, bright blue eyes and chocolate colored skin. She was wearing black skinny jeans and a white frilly blouse. Even though they were very different they were the best of friends.
“So what took you so long?” Annabelle asked.
“Um AMBER was taking forEVER,” Scarlett answered.
“No I was not,” Amber retorted, shaking her head jokingly at her, her brown hair waving.
Amber had shoulder length dark brown hair with light blue streaks. Her eyes were a soft blue and her skin was light.
“Mhm SURE” Scarlett said playfully rolling her naturally orangy red eyes. Scarlett had light medium length hair with red streaks. She also had light skin; it was just a little tanner. Amber’s hair was in a half up half down look today where the top was up in a ponytail and the bottom was not. Scarlett’s hair was down and she liked it that way.
“Guys we need to get to class,” Layla said softly.
“Yeah ok let's go girls” Annabelle agreed.
Walking and laughing they headed to their first period class.
Later, during lunch Mr. S called Annabelle and Layla to talk to them. He seemed as if something had just dawned on him. He also sounded a little urgent but the talk was quick. When Amber and Scarlett asked Annabelle and Layla they just said “It was nothing” and brushed the question off.
Over the next few days Annabelle and Layla seemed a little more distant and kept whispering to themselves.
One day Scarlett and Amber heard Layla and Annabelle talking again. This time they caught on to some of the words.
“If what he says is true….. Been with them the whole time…. Not knowing……..Got to confront ….. Today.”
Later, when they were all walking home from school Scarlett finally couldn’t take it anymore.
“WHY CAN’T YOU GUYS JUST TELL AMBER AND I WHAT IS GOING ON!” Scarlett yelled.
“Oh my god Scarlett chill” Amber told her trying to calm her down.
“No, no it’s ok we should have told you guys” Annabelle said turning around.
Annabelle looked them straight in the eyes.
“It’s about your powers,” she said seriously, “You both need to come with us.”
