As we walked back to Canopy, FeelinLucky spoke up, “It’s great that we have a tank now, but what about an actual healer. No offense, Suzuha.”
“None taken.”
“Friend’s list” I commanded. “I may be able to call in a favor.”
I scrolled through my friend’s list as we traveled. It would be a lie to admit that I was a little upset that not everyone was here. There was one name I was happy to see, since it was the name I was looking for. I tapped screen and another menu popped up, Message.
On instinct, two fingers went to my temple. A little dinging noise notified me that I was trying to reach another player.
“Candy, are you there?” I spoke in my head.
A moment went by, and then a small but authoritative voice rang in my head, “Yes, Ajak. I’m here. I’m glad to hear from you.”
“Candy, we have a situation. I think one of my friends is stuck in Abaddon’s Prison. We need a healer.”
“You’re calling in that favor, aren’t you?”
“Please.” I begged.
There was a sigh on the other end of the line, “I do owe you one. Fine, we leave tomorrow. Meet me in front of my guild hall tomorrow at eleven A.M.”
“I’ve got us a healer.”
FeelnLucky replied, “Awesome. Not onto problem number three. Where do we sleep?”
Suzuha and I paused outside the gates to Canopy. Lucky had a point. Us and our friends were saving up to start a guild together, which came with a guild hall. What does that mean, exactly? Well, that means we had to grab an inn room.
We had no idea if there was limited space at Barkbed, the inn at Canopy. The sun was beginning to set as the three of us dashed to the massive tree that the inn was carved out of. Busting through the front door, we saw a multitude of adventurers at all levels sitting at tables, quietly eating. Our stomachs started to growl as well. None of us had had a bite to eat since we got here. Our stomachs rumbled at the multitude of smells wafting through the air.
There happened to be a small table in the corner that was empty. We took it without a second thought and rested our weary limbs. Without even asking, a cat werefolk NPC wearing tavern apparel greeted us.
“Hello, what can I get you.”
I answered for the group, “We’ll have whatever twenty
gold will get us.”
Reaching into my inventory, I
found the section for money. The little number next to the gold piece icon
showed five thousand. Tapping the icon pulled up another window asking for a
number to take out. I typed in the number twenty and that many gold pieces
spawned on the table.
“Your meal will be right out. Would you also like a room for the night? A single night is two gold.”
“Are there still room’s available?”
“There are always rooms available. Our inn, like many others, use a special demiplane spell that allows us to only have a few doors, but each adventurer is given a key to a room that only they can enter.”
FeelinLucky slapped down six gold, “One room for each of us.”
“Thank you, good adventurers. Your meal and rooms will be ready shortly.” The barmaid quickly ran to the next table to continue her shift.
Much to our surprise, a platter of delicious smelling food materialized on our table, along with three keys. Spread across a party platter were all sorts of hearty food to fill the hungry stomachs of any adventurer. I hesitantly took the first bite. Flavor exploded in my mouth. The raw nature of the forest vegetables and potatoes paired well with the seasoning on the turkey placed at the center.
Suzuha and Lucky saw my reaction and dove right in. We cleaned our table within minutes. We were hungrier than we thought. Leaning back in our chairs, a satisfied sigh left our lips.
“At least the food tastes good,” Suzuha said with a relaxed grin. “Lucky, can you make food like this.”
FeelinLucky burped before answering, “Probably. We can test it out tomorrow. My concern is the NPCs. I couldn’t tell if that catgirl was following a pre-set script or not.”
“Are you saying the NPCs aren't alive?” I asked.
“I’m not sure. We probably won’t be able to figure it out for a few days at least.”
Suzuha replied with her own theory, “You’ve obviously never worked in the service industry.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Lucky replied.
“Trust me, you wouldn’t understand unless you’ve been there. I say we get some rest now, though. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow.”
For a moment, I had forgotten about that. The three of us left our table, but I turned around and dropped another few gold pieces on the table as a tip, just in case. The hallway with our rooms only had five doors, but just like our waitress said, they opened up to a specific inn room. It only had a bed and a storage box for extra gear or materials. I lay down in bed and had the deepest, yet most uncomfortable sleep of my life.
