“Hey, wake up…Hey, oh come on. Please wake up. It’s okay, I’m here now. Just please wake up.”
Character A knew that voice, it was soft, ridden with sadness but more importantly it was kind. Stirring a little, A found out that they were being held.
“You’re okay, you’re going to be fine. I’m here now.”
The voice whispered again, ushering A to open their eyes. And they did.
A opened their eyes to in fact see that they were being held. An arm supporting their back and one around the side of them. A saw two teary eyes staring back at them.
“You’re awake.”
A nodded their head and hugged Kind Person, squeezing them tightly. Never wanting to be separated from them again. KP started to cry, tears of relief as they hugged. Which sent a pang in A’s chest.
Kind Person had in fact come to save Character A, only a few minutes late.
A let go first, looking around. They were in a cave, a small fire in front of them and the opening behind the fire. A squinted at something off in the corner. There was an outline of someone slumped down. Not staring at them for too long, A figured out who it was.
“Don’t worry. I knocked him out and tied him up. He’s not going anywhere.” KP informed.
Character A couldn’t figure out what had happened. They remembered how uncomfortable, violating and painful the bite was. Even remembering the situation started the dull aching again. Cringing at the pain, A put their hand on the back of their neck. Feeling the teeth marks and the fangs.
It brought tears back to A’s eyes, feeling the mark. It was tender but it didn’t register in A’s mind, they just kept touching it. Tears slowly rolled down their cheeks as reality had finally settled in.
KP hugged Character A closely, quietly shushing them and rubbing their back. Taking A’s hand away from the bite. All the emotion and pain from before started to resurface all over again, causing A to sob into Kind Person’s shoulder.
“I know. It’s not fair, I know.” Kind Person whispered, still rubbing A’s back. “We’ll figure it out, okay?”
Character A nodded their head, trying to recollect themselves. They believed wholeheartedly that KP would figure out a way to fix all of this.
A had a way to fix it.
“I’ll find a way to fix this. It’s not right what he did, especially what he put you through.” KP mumbled.
A continued to sob while being hugged by KP but soon they started drifting off again. Not trying to fight the tiredness anymore, they let themselves drift off.
Safe was with Kind Person, safe meant Kind Person.
---
Character A woke up to arguing. It was KP and Dimwit #1.
“Why did you knock me out?!”
“Why did you mark them?”
“Oh please. We both know it’s easier to find them this way!” Dimwit argued.
“They’re connected to you now forever!” Kind Person shouted back.
“Yes I know!! Untie me you fucker!”
“No! You should be thrown out of the pack.” Kind Person spoke coldly, “You’re a sadistic bitch.”
“Oh you finally noticed, took ya long enough.” Dimwit said sarcastically. “Wait until everyone else hears about how you’re a traitorous shitbag.”
A kept very still, pretending to be sleeping. Wondering where the conversation was going.
“Well they won’t be too happy either when they figured out you marked them!” KP shouted back.
“At least this way we can know where they are. It’s easier than figuring out whatever is in them.” Dimwit argued back.
There was an eerie pause before Kind Person spoke.
“What’s in them?”
“They're human alright, but there’s something in the bloodstream or some bullshit that’s making them have no scent. It’s also some tracking device as well for the people they work for.” Dimwit informed.
Character A stiffened at the information. The People in fact had put something inside of them and part of it was a tracker. They had put a tracking device in A’s bloodstream.
It won’t ever come out, A knew it was never coming out. Meaning that The People always had a tab on Character A.
This left a dark, empty feeling inside of A, they didn’t understand what it was but it wasn’t good.
This isn’t right, A agreed. None of this was right nor was it fair.
It wasn’t fair to anyone here. Dimwit shouldn’t have to force a bite onto someone they don’t even know or like. Kind Person shouldn’t have to risk their pack/home for someone they don’t know. Target shouldn’t have several people protroling their home. Significant Other shouldn’t have to stress about the enemy killing their partner. Sir shouldn’t have to guess or risk the rest of the pack. The People shouldn’t even exist. Character A shouldn’t even be alive.
Shouldn’t be alive, A shouldn’t be alive.
“Hey, you’re awake. How are you feeling?” KP asked, “Hungry?”
A nodded their head, sitting up. They were next to the fire, keeping them warm in the night cold. There was also a shirt over their old one.
A looked down at the shirt then back up. Kind Person didn’t have a shirt on, but was partly shifted. Having ears and a tail for warmth.
Character A went to take off the shirt.
“No no, you’ll be warmer with it on.” KP protested, “I’ll be fine, don’t worry.”
A obliged and kept the shirt on, moving into a more comfortable position.
Kind Person came over and handed a stick with some brown stuff on it.
“Hope you like rabbit, it was that or a lizard.” KP informed.
Character A thought it smelled good and based on KP’s last food meal, this had to be good. So A bit into the ‘rabbit’ and it was good. They ate the whole thing feeling better, a bit of the emptiness they were feeling earlier had left. Making A think that they had gone more than three days without food.
“Good right?” Kind Person asked, focused on A’s reaction.
Character A nodded their head and held out the stick, showing that they wanted more.
KP understood and grabbed a new stick with rabbit on it. Trading the food with the stick and throwing it into the fire. A ate all of the rabbit, throwing the stick into the fire next to them.
A looked over and saw that Dimwit was staring out of the cave. He looked like he didn’t want to be here at all.
A didn’t blame them, they didn’t want to be here at all either but they were both stuck here anyways.
“Don’t mind him, he’s just being broody is all.” KP commented. “He’s a little pissed that he has to be near you all the time now, but his fault really.”
“Like I said before. It’s easier this way to track them down.” Dimwit #1 argued.
“Well you clearly didn’t think of this in the long run did you? What are you going to do when we get this situation all sorted out?”
“I could just kill them.”
“NO! Are you insane?!” Kind Person shouted, “Do you realize how much more pain you’ll put them through? Not to mention you.”
“Why do you care about them?! They tried to kill two of our own!” Dimwit yelled back, “This big heart of yours is going to be the death of you one day.”
“At least I have a heart.”
It became silent. Tension filled the air, making things very uncomfortable for Character A. Standing up, they quietly walked over to the entrance of the cave. They sat down opposite of Dimwit #1. He tensed up a little bit but both of them relaxed, the closeness of each other’s presence eased them somewhat. Both still had the hatred for one another but the bite caused the calmness.
Being near the entrance was better, the cool night air was a nice refresher for A. They liked the night, where no one could see them. There was a sense of peace at night, but not anymore. With the bite, nothing felt soothing anymore.
Yes! Kind Person! Protect A (ง'̀-'́)ง
