Heading towards to Witching Hill Village, the group tied Marco up using a spell to make him float along with them on their way back. When they arrived at the cafe to rest up, they put Marco in the back room, then waited until he woke up. Thankfully, the cafe was closed to customers right now so no one was there to witness any of this. Chantel still felt awful about using her powers, even though Darren and she had planned this. She hated having this ability, shivering at the thought of possibly killing someone using it.
How could anyone like having this ability? It is no wonder why so many Supernaturals banned Bio-Kinesis across the board in every Supernatural and Anchor town. This ability was dangerous and the responsibility of having this stressed her out.
“Hey, Chantel. You okay?” Darren was sitting next to her at one table. “I got your favorite tea. You know?” Handing her a cup of green tea, the petite girl smiled and accepted the offer.
Daniel was sitting, drinking some black coffee on the other side of her. Chantel wanted to thank Daniel for his help in, at least, teaching her how to use her powers properly until...
“Not bad, you didn’t murder anyone like you thought…” Daniel remarked.
Chantel’s soft smile disappeared when he said that. “That fucking asshole,” She thought to herself, glaring at him before taking a sip of her tea.
Daniel looked back at the petite girl, then said, “What? It was a compliment.”
“A very shitty one, man!” Darren snapped back to him, but Chantel focused on drinking.
“If she is that bothered by murdering people, it doesn’t even happen that often. Plus, she mastered giving a certain pain severity to others. That’s a good thing!” The man protested.
“By having her use those powers on animals, are you sure you aren't a future serial killer in the making?!” the mage suggested.
“They were almost dead, you know. It was a mercy kill if an animal is near death. Come on, man. This is Bio-Kinesis 101, basic level stuff. For the record, I didn’t enjoy killing almost dead animals either, until I-” Chantel lifted her hand up for Daniel to stop talking.
“Let’s talk about something else,” The petite girl changed the subject swiftly.
There was nothing but silence for a while until Celesta came back into the room. The plump woman announced that Marco had woke up. Darren and Chantel were the first to get up from their chairs. Daniel stayed behind, when the two of them headed out to the storage closet room.
The two friends walked into the room, they saw the music magic mage was sitting, tied up in a chair. The light on the ceiling of the room flickered a little while Marco was stirring himself awake, looking around at his surroundings. His face turned to both Chantel and Darren after coming to his senses. A sigh came out of the petite girl’s mouth; it was now or never. They needed to get more information from this man to take down this drug mill of a label.
The older mage’s face turned red in fury as Chantel closed her eyes and grit her teeth, preparing for him to yell at them.
“You brats! Just wait until I get out! I will turn you both in for that $30,000 grand the authorities are offering!” Marco reminded them about the money reward people are offering for their capture.
"Jeez, this much money to capture three nearly twenty something year olds, who were famed by those criminal assholes! It was not like they were serial killers or terrorists!" A thought ran through the petite girl's mind.
The whole thing infuriated Chantel until she remembered to stay on track to get some information out of Marco. Leaning against the wall, the petite girl played with strands of her hair, still keeping her eyes on him.
“$30,000, huh? That amount of money that you can get out of this? What is your end goal, Marco? Do you really believe in that story that we killed people?” Chantel asked.
“What does it matter? The both of you were dumb enough to reveal your powers, anyway. I expected your powers to reveal itself Chantel, since the days where I used to live in that shithole of a condominium area. Also, Darren, good job! You become like your coward, brother, Mark,” Marco smirked, which prompted the younger mage to pull out his wand and threaten the man.
Chantel felt a shock through her body; the aura coming from Darren was cold suddenly. This feeling coming from Darren’s aura was not normal for him. Watching the young mage pointing his wand to the older mage’s face, she heard Darren's chilling voice said, “Don’t ever compare me to that asshole.”
“That asshole was willing to throw away everything that our band worked for to chase the fame. You’re no different from him! I am willing to bet that you would throw your friend Chantel away to a bunch of thugs, who want to murder you to keep silent!” Marco told Darren, remaining unafraid that the young mage was still pointing his wand at his face.
Murder? Just what really happened to Midnight Force before Jasper and Millie died? She knew Darren had told her that two ghosts had blamed his brother for their deaths. Now the petite girl wanted to know how much of the story the public did not know about the Midnight Force's former guitarist and drummer’s deaths. What secrets were being kept from them?
Grabbing Darren’s shoulder to calm him down, she said to Marco, “What is the truth? What really happened to them? How did they die, Marco? Don’t even think about lying to us because Darren did contact both Jasper and Millie’s spirits and they told him a lot of things.”
The older mage cackled when Chantel revealed this, but she remained unnerved by him. Once Darren’s aura level calm down, she whispered in his ear to take out a magic communication device that he used to communicate with the ghosts. They did not want to use it, but if it was to get something out of Marco, then they will. The one thing that Chantel learned was every Supernatural knew about ghosts not lying about their deaths. They may have avoided talking about it, but never lied about what happened to them.
Once Darren pulled out the device, the older mage’s eyes went wide. Chantel examined the younger mage, pulling away from Marco. He showed him the device to the older mage, as his demeanor changed to a gentle tone.
“Look, I don’t want to hurt you, Marco. From what you are telling me, something happened between Mark and all of you years ago. Listen, I hate my asshole brother, too. He lied to me about helping me and screwed me over too, but we can take Mark and the rest of these criminals down, but you have to tell me what Chantel and I are in for if we go forward. If you want, we can contact Jasper and Millie again. I’m sure you miss them,” Darren explained.
In response to all this, Marco stood down and looked at the two of them; there was no need for hostility anymore. They were all on the same page. Once everything calmed down, the older mage was ready to talk about what really happened, up to the days of Jasper and Millie’s deaths. Marco’s story of events was informative, considering he was on the drug scene for a while, along with Millie. But when he talked about Nico Travolo, Chantel became more disgusted from hearing this. The rage built up within here more than she found out that the creepy CEO of Crimson Music Group was smuggling magical drugs out of Night Tower Barista months ago.
“Nico kept on giving us some crazy stuff. You know about the Devil’s Enigma? That’s bad shit, and it’s something that Outsiders should never have their hands on. No one should have that horrible shit in their hands. Every time we were touring, all of us felt weird, except for Mark. It was clear the higher ups favored your brother and, at times, Millie. You see, Nico always took Millie to some place that we don’t even know about. She always comes back, but she was not herself. It wasn’t until our last show that the girl literally lost it during a performance,” Marco stopped to catch his breath for a moment.
Chantel thought about Linda; she was not herself that night of The NorthEasters last performance and, if her theory was right, Nico and these higher executives drugged her along with Raleigh. The girl waited to hear more since the older mage still yet told the rest of his story. She listened on because the more information, the easier the group can take these criminals down.
“When I found out about those drugs through some digging in Nico’s office, I told Jasper and Millie about it. When Millie was better, we went on a hunt to build our case to try to take Nico's group down, but one person stopped us…” Marco paused again.
“Mark. He didn’t want you guys to reveal things. He loved his fame too much,” Darren added.
The older mage laughed and continued, “It’s hilarious since he stole another person’s voice from a dying person. That boy never could actually sing. All he knew was to use his magic for deceit and lies. Mark bragged to me when I caught him lying to us. Your brother told me he didn’t need us and we were irrelevant. Spare me the fake sobs when I heard at Millie’s funeral on how much she was a sister to him. To me, he always said that Millie was a washed up druggy that couldn’t stay sober for one show. He stopped giving a fuck about Jasper once he lived out his usefulness.”
Chantel added everything all together while listening to Marco. She walked up to the older mage, slowly feeling a slight pity for the man. The petite girl always knew that Darren’s brother was a jerk, but based on Marco’s accounts of the events, Mark even sounded more horrible than what she knew of him. There were always celebrities faking their lives, which was not new to her. However, this story takes the cake, since a con artist, narcissist, and possibly a murderer were living in her hometown. Still standing, Chantel caught a tear coming down from Marco’s face. In the past, she thought of Jasper and Marco as bullies when she was a kid, but this was the first time she ever saw Marco being a human being.
“Both Nico and Mark used my dying mother to keep me silent. You see, she was really sick, and I needed money to help her. I just took it. I needed the money, you know, to help pay the bills. I knew how Jasper and Millie died because they didn’t take their offer. Nico allowed those Rise of Lights bastards to set them up to die. They were going after me next, but then they gave me an offer. Nico gave me two options: take the money and shut up or die by those cult assholes. My mother and father needed me. So, like a coward like your brother, I took the money and shut up.” The older mage stopped once again, about to finish his story. “After my mother died, I left Clare Point View and everything behind. Started a new life here and stayed clean. That’s the least I could do for Millie and Jasper, but fuck this, it wasn’t enough to see that lying coward still using our names, acting like we’re friends. That son of a bitch is no friend of mine…” Marco finished explaining his versions of the events of what happened to Midnight Force.
Chantel just felt sorry when she saw a couple more tears coming down from the older mage’s eyes. It was guilt for taking the money, but the petite girl could not blame Marco for that, because of the situation he was in. However, this story further fuels Chantel's disgust towards Mark and Nico. After the integration was over, the two of them untied Marco from the chair. The man did not get up after they untied him.
The older mage continued to just sit there, staring at the floor, almost as if he was in a trance. Chantel did not know if they should leave the older mage alone or help him snap out of it. It was not until Darren went forward to Marco. Watching the young mage digging something out of his shirt, he took out the black and white beaded choker that Mark gave him. The same choker that he wore on the night when Jasper and Millie haunted The NorthEasters at their gig in the city of Underwood.
Darren gave it to Marco, who glanced at him in confusion.
“Look, Marco, we obviously didn’t get along back then. You were a bully, there was no excuse for your behavior back then, but….even a bully like you doesn't deserve to go through all of this,” Darren puts his hands in his jean pockets while he was trying find the right words to comfort Marco. “But Jasper and Millie must have meant something to you, more than Mark. Mark didn’t deserve this gift. I probably didn’t deserve it either. If you want to do the right thing now, help us in any way possible. If not for yourself, at least do it for Jasper and Millie,” The younger mage said his peace and turned away from Marco, walking to the door of the storage room and exiting.
All Chantel did was stare at the older mage, who was staring at the choker, still sitting in the chair. There was nothing more that the petite girl could do but follow her friend out of the room. The group stayed around the cafe for a couple of hours until it was time for them to leave. Celesta gave the group some cookies for the road and a kiss on Toby’s cheek. The portal magic mage’s cheek blushed red in shock, which messed up his focus for a bit. When the portal magic mage pulled himself together, he told the group that it was time to leave. As the group bid Celesta and Marco goodbye, Chantel took one last look at the older mage, who was waving and wearing the choker that Darren gave to him.
“Take care! Your secret is safe with me!” Marco reassured he would not turn on them.
With that, Chantel and Darren responded to the older mage with a nod. The group went on their way, out of Witching Hill Village and back to Melicona, relieved the journey gained them an ally on their side in the end.
