We paused to catch our breaths. Just like in the original Wonderous Champions, when the demon died, a chest appeared in place of the quickly disappearing goo. We tried to run past the chest, but our gamer instincts took over. FeelinLucky popped it open. Inside, hundeds of gold pieces glowed in our faces. Lucky went to pick one up, but the moment he touched the money, the entire stack vanished and entered our inventories.
At the bottom of the chest was a pair of boots. A pop-up with its stats flashed in our faces. The boots were for a Swordmaster, so we all passed on the boots and kept running. The next room was a long hallway with a spiral staircase at the end. Little balls of flame hovered around the room.
“We can’t run past this hall,” Suzuha grimaced.
I took a fighting stance, “I guess we’ll found out if we feel pain in this world.”
The four of us charged through the hallway. Spells, fists, and weapons flew through the air. Each of the orbs of fire spun in the air, releasing torrents of fire. The normal thing to do here is let the tank drag all the orbs to the middle of the room and hand it that way. Without a real tank, this was not an option. Instead, we took each orb at the same time.
The heat from the flames swirling around the monsters hurt. Our lips chapped and dehydration quickly set it. Luckily, Candy’s healing negated the damage before it could do any real harm. It was a learning experience, however. Damage here would actually hurt, but healing would negate the pain as well.
A few minutes of fighting and the Demon Orbs fell to the ground, sizzling out. We were all out of breath, but our adventurer bodies quickly recovered. We could even watch as our wounds healed before our eyes.
The stairs were next. There were no enemies on the staircase, but at the top, a small foyer was the last room before the second boss. Guarding the door were two stone golems with a devilish motif. The moment FeelinLucky’s zombie stepped off the staircase, the guards attacked.
Stone fists pummeled our tank. Thankfully, my group's healing kept up while I returned with my own pummeling. In no time at all, we melted the golems into smoldering piles of steel and stone.
Before us stood a locked door, and that’s when it hit us. We forgot to grab the extra key from Brash’na’s dead body. Suzuha was about to run back downstairs when I stopped her.
“Wait, I want to try something first.”
I gathered power in my fist. Orange energy condensed into a rock-hard ball of strength. Punching so hard that one of my legs left the ground, I caved in the door with my ability with a two-minute cooldown, Fist of the Earthen Lord.
The hinges busted off the metal door, sending it flying into the warden’s room. Waiting inside was a much larger than necessary office room. Office room was a bit of an overstatement, however. The walls were lined with an assortment of handheld torture devices. Even though there was room to move, the multitude of racks and iron maidens in the room made it seem much smaller than it really was.
Standing behind the single desk in the room was The Warden, Dres’la. An obviously woman demon with long black hair slammed her hands on the table. Her attire was much less demonic, taking more of a military officer motif. The whip at her side quickly slid into her hand, igniting into flames at the same time.
“Intruders! I’ve been hoping for some new toys!”
Dres’la flung her whip in a wide arc. The flames licked the entirety of the room, lighting the entire floor on fire. This fight was what set the good healers from the bad, what with the constant burning damage but still being required to do damage.
The Flesh Hulk and I charged at the prison warden, desperate to get the key. We needed to finish the fight as fast as we could so that the floor would not kill us first.
