The sound of hooves jolted Mira back to the present as the performance changed. The music was wilder and faster as Natalie switched from vaulting to riding. Mira watched Natalie and the bay horse complete a series of jumps and obstacles with no bridle or saddle. The pair was in sync, making the routine look effortless.

When the pretty horses arrive, the Festival of Jewels has begun.

Natalie is everything Mira wants to be. Bold, graceful, a fierce warrior. For Mira, the highlight of the annual Festival of Jewels is seeing Natalie perform. Watching her do daring feats on horseback that Mira would never dream of trying. She’s never spoken to her, for fear of her parents wrath.
