And then, a small memory of the original owner suddenly flashed in Li Xuejian's mind.
According to the memory in his mind, Li Xuejian could know that the trip to the mountain of the original owner was a complete failure.
The original owner's parents both passed away. His mother died giving birth to him but the father was able to take care of and accompany him till the last month.
Although the family didn’t own any land in the village, the days of the original owner were still going by fine. Every couple of days his father would go into the mountains to hunt for a few prey or catch a fish in the river to eat and also to sell it for some daily necessities, such as firewood, rice, oil, and salt.
However, the original owner didn’t help his old father at all. He was frail and sickly from early childhood and raised in a procrastinated manner. This caused him to be uninterested in learning hunting skills and not willing to do any work.
Although the original owner was a lazy person, he understands what it's like to be hungry. When the savings in the home ran out after his father's death, the young man with no life experience instead of looking for work in the village, went to mountain forest to catch prey and maybe earn some silver along the way.
In the past, there were often cases of people being eaten in the mountains, the original owner's father's corpse, who was an experienced hunter, was also found in the wilderness, so not many villagers dared to go deeper into the forest to try their luck.
The result of the original owner without any ability is already known. He simply got lucky to get out of the woods alive.
Li Xuejian sighed deeply. These memories give him a headache when he thinks of them. He silently cursed a few times in his heart and then put aside the messy thoughts.
Li Xuejian let go of his emotions and sat on the bed and began to wipe the sweat off his body with hot water.
After the wiping was done, Uncle Chen came over again with the clean clothes he had just found. He finally found a piece of dry clothing at the bottom of the box and quickly brought it. Uncle Chen also took out a thin quilt to cover Li Xuejian's body, and then sat down beside him and put the bowl on the wooden bed.
In a bowl of thick yellow liquid, there seemed to be a few boiled sweet potatoes and rice grains floating in it. Li Xuejian probably recognized what dish this could be. Either Uncle Chen really didn’t know how to cook or it was all he could afford to make.
Li Xuejian would not waste food, even if it looked so greasy that he had no appetite at all. He took the chopsticks placed on the side of the bowl and picked up the piece of sweet potato.
He had already recognized that there was no food in the house but Uncle Chen didn't even add a bit of salt.
Li Xuejian took a mouthful of porridge and silently gave an evaluation in the bottom of his heart. It was awful. The porridge was either sweet or salty. This kind of taste really made him feel uncomfortable. He took a big bite to eat faster and be done with it.
Li Xuejian believed that during the apocalypse, most of the food he ate at the base was wild vegetables that were easy to grow, and he also rarely used seasonings. He thought that he wouldn’t worry too much about the taste of the food here, but now it seemed that it was too early to be relieved.
Uncle Chen saw that Li Xuejian ate everything and was not as weak as before so he was feeling less distressed for him: "The rain has already stopped and it is clear outside. It's time for me to go back. Xuejian, you should rest peacefully and sleep some more."
Li Xuejian said with difficulty to found out that his voice was hoarse: “Thank you, Uncle. You saved my life... I promise to repay you one day.”
Li Xuejian felt that he still had to repay the old man for taking care of him, whether this was giving him money or helping with something.
Uncle Chen teared up as he heard Li Xuejian’s words.
Aiyo, this child deep down has a good heart. But how can he be willing to let Li Xuejian, who is still sick, have this worry in his mind?
Uncle Chen waved his hand: “There's no need to, it's natural between neighbors to help each other. I will come tomorrow to check on you.”
When Uncle Chen left, Li Xuejian instead of going to sleep right away, looked more carefully at the place he was currently in. The thatch above his head seemed to be shaky, maybe a heavy storm could lift the roof. The walls were made by the most economical and weakest soil that was mixed with water, sand, and straw to form a thick paste of clay mass that was left for the sun to dry.
The original owner obviously didn't take care of this place after his father's death. The soil that has fallen off the wooden frames became uneven and covered with fine dust. There were also cobwebs in the corners that were not cleaned up for a long time.
Li Xuejian was lying quietly on the bed, not knowing what he was thinking.
Having no idea what to do with himself in this new place, Li Xuejian lifted the quilt to get out of bed. After eating his strength recovered a little, at least he managed to stay on his feet.
The room was so small that he walked out of it in a few steps. Then Li Xuejian entered the kitchen.
In the room, there was only an earth stove, a dilapidated wooden table that was placed in the middle, and two equally dilapidated stools on both sides. The dust here seemed to have been wiped off by Uncle Chen.
Li Xuejian's eyes locked on the rough table in front of him. At first glance, he could tell it was made by the original owner's father. It could also mean that there was no carpenter in the village.
Li Xuejian knew from the original owner's memories that he crossed into ancient times. But there was one unanswered question running through his head right now.

How remote is this place?
