Our story begins in the Red Mountains of the Nasgaär continent; an ochre-coloured land, isolated from the rest of the world because of its altitude. More precisely in the village of Prat. It is a village of farmers with low houses and thatched roofs, bordering the Migr lake, a high altitude lake with dark and cold waters full of various marine species. The village has about twenty buildings including an armoury, a sheepfold and an auberge called Igga.
This is where Septem, the daughter of the Igga's owners, lives. She is a native of the high-altitude lakes, the Leontopos. She has delicate features, purplish skin with white patches, and especially thick amethyst hair like her eyes. Apart from these traits, her species resembles humans. She is a tall, slender girl of seventeen. The middle child in a family of three. Septem is resourceful, creative and reasonably intelligent, everyone in her family is tall, slender and of the high-altitude lake species with the exception of her mother who is short with crimson hair and eyes as she is a cross between a Leontopo and a Latifolia - an ancient mountain species that is now almost extinct for no apparent reason. The Latifolias are small in size with thick reddish skin and red hair and eyes.
Septem knows
little about her mother's childhood before she met her father, the young
Leontopo is curious but she has learned not to ask any questions that might
upset her mother.
Septem prefers to spend her days with her best friend, Astir, an
only son and shepherd of the same species, but a genetic peculiarity has meant
that all members of his family have green eyes. His parents and siblings died
two years ago of an unknown disease, only his grandmother survived. Now they
live in the sheepfold at the top of the village. They own about fifteen
triglopods (a species vaguely resembling sheep and hermaphroditic) and sell the
wool and milk at the market on the other side of the lake. Astir and Septem go
there once a year accompanied by other people from the village.
These two consider themselves brother and sister and spend most of their time together: in the pastures in the warm and temperate seasons and then by the lake and in the sheepfold in the cold season*. In their quiet moments, they talked about everything and nothing, about ideas and futures. Once Septem had confided to him that she wanted to become a pirate in the seas of the Amphitrites. She had had this growing desire after talking to some Chelone strangers - people of the plains, scattered throughout Igamba, with light green skin with darker tips, violet eyes and hair ranging from black to brown - at a market in Aguilepia when she was a child and went with her father on his trips. He had not said anything that day and she had not spoken of it again.
* The year is divided into eight months on Igemba, with three months of thirty-two days in the cool and warm seasons and one month of twenty-eight days in the mild seasons. In addition, this world has three natural satellites including a night star called Kann and two minor ones, loarell and loarenn, which pass in front of Steredenn - the star of the solar system - creating two eclipses during the twenty-six hour day, the first lasting thirty minutes around ten in the morning and the second lasting two hours in the afternoon.
