The flying fire sword flew away from Valencia’s side and struck the demonic wolf. It let out a whine before falling to the ground, releasing its last breath.
I was sitting comfortably on a tree, leaning against the bark. I had my companions do the attacking instead. I’d been playing around with Black Healing and it worked on them too. So, all I had to do was watch their back and heal them whenever they got hurt.
During the past five days of isolation, I’d been using them to get better at healing. It only worked on monster species after all and they were corrupted.
Moreover, I also managed to make an alteration with my healing magic. I found out that the reason behind it only working on monster species was due to Shadow Element.
If I got rid of that element inside Black Healing, I would surely be able to heal a human person. My hypothesis worked seeing as I had a new healing skill called Minor Healing.
MINOR HEALING
Heals target of choice. Only works on small cuts and minor sickness. Results work better for the non-monster type. Use more to upgrade it to the fullest.
If a monster possessed Black Healing, then a non-monster species possessed Minor Healing.
So now this clone of mine possessed three spells. Black Healing, Minor Healing, and Nature Element. It was a risky move to put Black Healing into a clone for the first time but I needed it for my summoned creatures. The more companions the better.
The lack of other elements and spells was compensated by my companions. They were proficient in a lot of other elements. I also had no idea whether they would permanently die if I didn’t heal them in time.
I closed my screen before jumping down from the tree. I noticed that the four of them were busy taking apart the wolf. Mocha was sitting on top of Hazel’s head, busy chewing on his curly roots.
Mocha wanted to join in on the fight when we encountered the wolf. He’d been sleeping on my shoulders for the past two hunts before suddenly waking up and jumping on Hazel’s shoulder instead.
I’d been watching the fight closely up from the tree and realized that Mocha was proficient at Gravity Element. He used a spell called Frozen Tremor that stopped his target’s movement. They were rooted to the ground as a result of the gravity around them.
It was a good support-type ability. I used it once on Hazel during our duel so I guessed he was watching me fight the whole time. Talk about being cheeky.
“Nice job, everyone!” I said. I was trying to be more casual seeing that this was the last hunt before going to that town.
They all gave me a respectful nod before continuing to work on that wolf. I gave Vienna the box and a few minutes later, only a pool of blood could be seen.
They all kneeled in front of me as I balanced the furs on my shoulder.
“It seems that I won’t be in need of your help for some time. I need to get familiar with the town. I don’t think that they would like it when summoned creatures are walking around with his master.”
Hazel’s shoulder drooped and Valencia looked crestfallen at my words. But that didn’t last long before Ramona hit both of their heads.
“Don’t worry. You’ll be of use to me soon enough. For now, rest.”
With that, they returned to seeds again. I picked it up from the ground, put it in my pocket, and turned toward the direction of the town.
I was quite nervous, to be honest. One thing that worried me the most was whether I could understand their language or not. I was a human from a different world after all. But I gambled on the possibility of actually understanding them easily with the author helping me somehow.
If not, I would be forced to stay silent the entire time.
I could see an empty field after five minutes of walking. Beyond that, I could see a gate where two guards were standing as watchers. They immediately pointed their spears at me when I got closer. I raised both of my hands and stopped in my tracks.
“Who’s there?!” one yelled. I sighed in relief. I understood them well.
“I’m a passing wanderer,” I replied. “I’m just here to visit this town.”
They both stared at each other before shrugging and beckoning me to move closer. I placed the fur down and one of the guards widened his eyes at me.
“This…isn’t this the fur from the rogue wolf?” the man asked. “And this one! This came from the Demonic Bear the mercenary group struggled to kill last month! Hey, you. Are you the one that hunted them?”
Both of the guards were staring at me in suspicion. Shit! I had to make up a lie. I didn’t know those animals were that weak! A group of mercenaries struggled to kill that thing?
“Yes, I did,” I answered truthfully. “I’m a traveling mage and an apprentice of a High Archmage. Killing these creatures is easy enough for me.”
“But still…” the man holding the bear fur mumbled.
“Am I clear to walk through?” I asked, trying to switch the subject.
“One more thing,” the other guard said. He had blonde hair. “This weird box of yours. May we see the contents?”
I shrugged and placed the mini-fridge down. I opened the lid and both of the guards widened their eyes. Shit, I messed again, huh? Why did they keep being amazed? I thought that this was a normal thing?
“Is there a problem?” I asked, raising an eyebrow.
“N-Nothing,” the man said. “It’s just…I’ve never seen anything like this. What is this?”
“Me neither,” the other one added.
“…It’s something that my teacher gave me before my travel. It’s a contraption that keeps things cold. It’s good for meat. You just need to channel your mana onto the ice so it won’t melt.”
Well, that was a total lie. No way in hell I was going to use the same kind of ice over and over again. It was unsanitary. Even thinking about it made me wanted to gag.
But Ice Element was something only a noble possessed. I could give an excuse that my “teacher” mastered the element.
“Woah,” the bear fur man said. “Your teacher must’ve been a well-known High Archmage to think of something like this.”
“Haha,” I awkwardly said. “He is. Sadly, he’s not too keen on revealing himself.”
Well, I wasn’t keen on revealing myself. The evidence was clear with how I was using a clone to go here and buried my main body into the ground just to stay inconspicuous.
“It’s to be expected. High Archmages were known to be a bunch of shut-ins after all. You may go now.” The blonde man said.
“Thank you.” I gave a nod before passing through the gate.
“May you have a good time here!” The bear fur man waved at me. “Come visit the tavern sometimes! The drinks and food are amazing! Also, that’s a cute pet you have there!”
“Will do!” I waved back.
I let out a sigh before composing myself. This was a great step forward. I wasn’t being suspected at all by the guards. Time to explore.
