Disjointed

To the village

To the village

Oct 16, 2021

A few weeks had passed since his reincarnation and 36 was able to learn a decent amount of this new language. The first thing that he discovered was his own name was Dayn and not some randomly generated number. Knowing this fact caused an odd feeling to rise inside Dayn’s chest making him feel warm.

Funnily enough, on the following day when Anne returned to check on the baby, she found the new parents in a stupor not knowing what to do because their child refused to be breastfed. As for Dayn, he was incredibly embarrassed to do so, and even though he knew that it was his own mother, he had been a 16-year-old virgin in his past life. Eventually, Dayn did give in and found himself feeling much better after doing so.

One thing that Dayn noticed during these few weeks was that both of his parents were surprisingly good-looking. His Dad had black hair, green eyes, a well-defined face, as well as a muscular build that reminded Dayn of his own in his past life, and on top of that, his Dad was about 6 feet tall. His mother, on the other hand, had brown hair, hazel eyes, a pretty face, and a kind smile making her seem like an angel.

.

.

.

4 months then passed by quickly. In this time Dayn tried his best to learn the new language every day, as well as improve what little strength he had in his body. He also had learned from walking around in his parent’s arms every day that they were decently well off. The house itself resembled a small cottage with two separate bedrooms, a small living room with a cozy fireplace, a kitchen, and a dining area.

In these four months, Dayn had been cooped up inside due to the harsh winter, and now that it was finally Spring he wanted to go outside. On a certain bright spring day when the snow was almost melted, his parents took him outside of the cottage.

“It’s nice isn’t it Dayn?”, his mother said while holding him.

Dayn didn’t respond to his mother but instead took a deep breath in and relaxed letting the sunlight hit his face, before glancing around.

As he looked forward he could see what looked to be a village just a small distance away from their house. On his far left, there was a heavily forested area that seemed to expand for miles upon miles, and deep within that forest appeared a snowy mountain range that reached into the clouds. On the far side of the village, there was also a rough road that could be seen leading away into rolling hills. Then on his right, there was farmland that stretched out for several acres, before being met with a lightly forested area. This is where the villagers would go to get their wood, as well as hunt for wild animals to eat.

“Let’s go down to the village and show Dayn around hon.”, said Marcus with a smile.

“Alright.”, Helen agreed.

.

.

.

Once they entered the main village they immediately headed towards a small shop that had a hammer and an anvil hanging from its side. Marcus then took out a small key, before inserting it into the front door of the shop and stepping inside, then Dayn and his mother followed right after him.

As they stepped inside, Dayn could see what looked to be a furnace on one side of the room while on the other side there was a large number of tools laid neatly on the ground or hung on the wall.

“Welcome to our shop kiddo!”, Marcus said excitedly, while looking at Dayn for some sort of response.

Dayn gave him an absentminded look back before Marcus then sighed and said, “Oh that’s right he can’t understand us yet.”

“Yes, honey, remember what Anne told us, that it would take about a year for him to fully understand what we are saying.”, scolded Helen.

“Yes, yes, I know, I just forgot about it for a moment.”, replied Marcus confidently.

Helen rolled her eyes before passing the child over to Marcus for him to carry.

As they began to leave the shop, Dayn could not help but wonder if his father was a blacksmith similar to what they had on earth. If he was he would surely be able to request for his father to make him his own spear to use.

After leaving the shop they stopped by a few different places including a bakery, to get some fresh bread, before finally landing at Anne’s place. Anne’s house was much larger than all of the others because of her status as a healer.

His parents then knocked on the front door politely, before being answered with a faint “Coming!” from inside the house. Anne then opened the door shortly after and then proceeded to tell them to come in.

Inside Anne’s house, they were seated in a cozy living room with plush sofas and a coffee table in the middle to hold drinks.

“Care for some tea?”, Anne asked.

“Please.”, said Helen.

“And you Marcus?”

“No thank you.”, he said.

Anne smiled and nodded before walking into the kitchen to brew some tea.

As Dayn looked around more inside of the house, he could not help but be curious at the large bookcase that was on the far wall. In particular, he was curious about two of the thinner books on the top shelf that seemed to have Qi emanating from them.

After Anne brought the tea back, his parents sat and visited for a while discussing how the winter was and their plans for the spring before getting up to leave.

On the way back to their home, Dayn could not get the two books that he had seen out of his mind. He wondered if one day he would be able to ask Anne about those books and read them for himself, but for now, he would have to wait.
