The night came quickly, the stalls filled with people or as filled as it could be with a small town like this. Rico stands at the front of the big top, hands out and bellowing his usual words to newcomers. Before motioning inside, one by one people stepped into the big top, finding quick seats as Yukiko and Katie prepared once more for their dance.
“You ready sweetie?” Katie announced over her shoulder as Yukiko nods and ducks down to give Katie a quick peck on the lips.
“Let us show them the truth of our strangeness.” Yukiko smirked as the light landed on their entrance and the usual booming voice of Rico announced them.
“Ladies and Gentle let me give you are elegant spider and her feline in crime! Yukiko and Katie!” With that they stepped out the first loud gasps is no surprise as some point at Yukiko who bows and steps into the middle of the stage. Katie chuckles standing beside her.
“This will never get old.” Katie whispers close to Yukiko who smiles shaking her head as she lowers a hand to her.
“Shall I have this dance my dear?”
“As you had to ask?” With that said, music pulsed through the big top as they begin.
Outside the big top Milo and Remy walk the grounds as they do every night. Eyes on them as they reach one of the stalls.
“How are you this lovely night my good man? Is their any way we could play a bit?” Milo asks as the man gives us a slow nod.
The game itself was a small water target gun game, the guns plastic, weightless. Taking one, I hand the other to Remy which the stall man gives me a confused look. That is, before it’s held in thin air making the poor man go wide-eyed. Chuckling Remy gives Milo a once over before shaking his head and holding the toy gun up at the targets.
“Ready, you have one minute to hit as many targets as possible. The more you hit the bigger the prize.” He waves towards the prizes that hang high above his head. “Are you both ready?” We both nod, as the man yells. Water raining upon the springs.
Alex and Lucy sit back behind the crowd watching the dance before them. That is before Yukiko climbs the pole pulling Katie with her, who chuckles like a mad woman. People all around wide-eyed in shock. Making Lucy shake her head with a smile.
“When do we go on Mama?” Alex asks, leaning against her shoulder yawning and rubbing his eyes.
“Soon sweetheart.”
Henry slips through the crowds’ sharp eyes in search ignoring the wondering eyes that landed on him as he moved. Before making his way out front where a few older kids stand in a circle taunting something on the grass. Feeling his face heat up in anger he charges over to the kids.
“HEY!” He shouts catching a few of the kids’ attentions. Pushing through them Henry comes face to Face with a kid pinning down the large boa that has now tried to coil around his arm. “What the fuck you are doing with my snake?!”
“Your snake?” One kid question, just before the other kid is pinned to the grass by the snake’s weight. Quickly releasing as Henry drops down to scope the boa into his arms.
“Yes, my snake. Next time you want to take something that isn’t yours don’t choose a twenty something pound snake with an attitude.” Henry quips turning to walk away.
“Then maybe keep a better eye on that beast freak!” The kid on the ground stands fixing his clothes as Henry continues to walk away mumbling to himself as he goes.
“Don’t drop to their level. Remember what Rico says, their just normal.” He continues to mumble until a sharp push knocks him to the ground, sending the constrictor flying onto the ground. “Fuck!” He curses scrambling back to his feet. Reaching for the boa a foot lands on his back.
“Freaks like you need to know their place.” Holding Henry in place the other kids behind them start to laugh and cheer.
The cheers died down as quick as they started as something lifted the kid up off his back, the boa curled up ready to strike. Looking up, Henry sees Remy and Milo the later looking beyond angry and he drops the child on his butt. Milo ducks down beside him, pulling him up to his feet before turning towards the now quiet kids. Some are looking at their feet, others are staring at Remy who is tapping his foot against the dirt.
“Problem here boys?” Milo questions as Henry scoops up his snake holding it over his neck as an invisible hand pushes him away.
“N- No.” The kid that had been the one to start this stuttered out.
“Well good. Return to your parents and please let them know your tickets have been provoked.” Milo snaps his finger before turning away leading both Henry and Remy by their backs, back into the fair grounds.
“What a start…” Rico mumbles his smile faltering for a second before coming back as Lucy steps into the back of the big top. An unconscious Alex snoozing in her arms.
“This is one of the weirdest nights thus far. I wonder what tomorrow will bring.” She says walking passed him.
“We can only hope it will be better than tonight.”
