Mrs. Washington made her way back to the imaging center for her appointment, a little shaken by her confrontation with Rodney. She walked up to Sheryl Simplessohn sitting at the reception desk. “Are you the lady with the crazy son?” she demanded.
Sheryl was nonplussed. “Probably. Red-headed, skinny, 18 years old?”
“Yeah, that’s him. Fool said I was healed. I don’t believe him, of course. But I guess we’ll find out soon enough.”
“Come on back. We’re ready for you.” Sheryl led her into the room with the MRI machine. After the scan was completed, Sheryl asked Mrs. Washington to wait in Dr. Hagopian’s office for the results.
Dr. Hagopian sat down at his desk across from Mrs. Washington. “I have some incredible news for you. Now, it’s possible that these results are erroneous, so I’m scheduling you to come back next week for a follow-up. But your brain scan shows perfect circulation in the damaged section here.” He pointed to the MRI. “And I don’t see any sign of that small tumor. Two weeks ago, you had the scan of a person with memory loss and mood swings. Today you have the scan of a person with a perfectly healthy brain. I don’t understand it. I’ve never seen a recovery like this. It just doesn’t happen—I don’t care how much fish oil you were taking.”
“Sweet Jesus!” exclaimed Mrs. Washington, pushing out of her chair and getting down on her knees. “I believe, Lord!” she yelled with her hands slapping the carpet in front of her. “I’m sorry I doubted it.” Holding her hands together and looking up toward heaven, ignoring the doctor altogether she said, “I know how much You love me, Jesus, and I know how powerful You are. I claim this healing and I praise Your holy name.”
“Yes, well, like I said,” Dr. Hagopian continued, trying to politely ignore Mrs. Washington’s dramatic outburst, “it’s possible the machine is malfunctioning, so we’ll do this again next week just to be sure.”
“You could do it again every day for the rest of my life—you’ll find the same thing!” Mrs. Washington yelled as Dr. Hagopian helped her up from the floor. “I have the perfect mind of Christ because He lives in me! Amen! Thank you, Jesus!” she exclaimed as she left his office. With a big smile on her face, she pointed to Sheryl on her way out and said, “Your boy was right! Hallelujah! Thank him for me. Thank him for being brave enough to try to bring good news to a stranger.”
Sheryl raised her eyebrows, a look of astonishment on her face.
