Most of you here already know me but for those of you who don’t, hi I’m Bo,
You have probably seen me at school events were I am either helping to run the event or filming it, this is because I believe these events help to build the schools community and bring the students and staff together, this is something that I feel strongly about, which is why I always try to do my bit to help.
Especially the groups and events that are focused on mental health, LGBTQIA and acceptance because I feel strongly that today’s students are tomorrow’s future and that if we are to have a chance to correct the mistakes of the past, and create a brighter and happier future we need to learn to accept, encourage and celebrate each other’s differences, rather than continuing with the outdated stereotypes and stigmas.
We spend a big portion of our lives at school and lets be real some of the stuff we learn such as the symbolic meaning of the wall in the play Romeo and Juliet we will never use in a real life situation.
However the sense and strength of being in community and the bonds we make while at school will be with us for a life time, which is why I try to make as much as of a difference as possible.
It is usually easy to spot me just look for the guy with the beanie or listen for the jingle of my stim bag. You may wonder why I always have a beanie and stim bag, well that is because I am autistic, and these are the sensory tools that I use to help me cope throughout the day having said that I am always up for a good chat.
And if I am elected it’s not like I will be going in clueless as I was middle school vice-captain last year, and during that period I learnt the significance of being part of the schools leadership team at this school and I would love to pick up from where I left off last year.
I will continue to help at school events and make sure that events such as pancake breakfasts and jelly eating competitions continue. One thing I have noticed is that our events tend to pull the same people each time, if elected, I would like to see this change, so I ask you, my fellow students, what do you want to see happen at these events?
How can we the make these events more inclusive? How can we build a community that you want to be a part of?
If elected, I ask that you help me to help you, and together we can build a community that stands together, works together, and has fun together. Don’t think of me as a leader think of me as a friend.
So let’s not be the generation that is doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past lets be the generation that creates a brighter and happier future
