“So, Morris why are you helping us anyway?” Katie questions watching the small mob of people move around the town. “And if I may ask, what is this Will they all keep yapping about?” Turning from the window she looks to Morris who is leaned against the counter.
“Well to answer the first question, when my parents and I moved here.” He waves his hand for a second as he thinks. “I believe I was about five or six? I can’t really recall. But moving on when we came here the major at the time was a nice guy. Would find him helping anyone who needed it and so on and so forth. Until one day he came from the mines a good mile or two out of town and started going on about someone’s will.”
The sound of ice moving indicates Lilith moving who quickly apologizes as a bucket of ice is poured on her body.
“He took the adults to the cave for the next few years, and some would come back. Some wouldn’t having not accepted the Will or whatever. Every man, woman, child at the age of eighteen started to preach in a sense about this thing.”
“How old are you?” Lucy cuts him off giving the young boy a worried look.
“Fifteen still three more years. Hopefully by then I’ll be long out of this shit show…” Morris responds, leaning against the counter his head in his hands as he continues. “After a while he reached my families home. Trying his hardest to preach it to my parents, they agreed just to go see… But they never came back. I’ve been between living with Mr. Don and his wife Carol for the last ten or so years.”
“I am sorry for your lose dear.” Lucy lays her hand on Morris’ shoulder giving it a comforting shake before pulling away.
“It’s alright it’s the reason I don’t want anyone else to get caught and dragged into this town.” Morris responds as lights draw close to the store.
“Everyone get down!” Henry whisper shouts pulling Lilith from the ice. Everyone scatters hiding behind aisles as the door is tugged on the bell above shaking a bit before they let go.
“HEY DON, YOU IN THERE?!” one shouts as the other peeks through the glass.
“I don’t see him… Think he already went to the meeting?” the other asks, shrugging he shakes the door once more.
“Meeting starts in twenty minutes Don wouldn’t miss this for what it’s worth. Got to take that weirdo to see the Will.” The other nods as they finally move away from the door. “Let’s go see if the back door is unlocked.”
“Shit…” Morris curses as a soft jet of wind flies passed him, a soft click is heard before the harsh tugging. Looking to over the counter he sees the porcelain mask before he sees the still very angry man behind it.
“Maybe he- wait a second is that, Ralph?” For a long moment everyone stayed as still as caught mice as muffled shouting reaches them.
“I’d almost forgot about those guys you tossed earlier…” Katie chuckles as Remy ducks back behind an aisle. More people appear, moving behind the shop. Shouts and banging can be heard before the glass of the double doors shatter, a rock flying through them sending shards flying onto the ground. Everyone stays quite as a small group enters the store.
“Keep your eyes open! If you find those freaks do what you can to restrain them.” With that said some begin to move through the aisles, other head towards the cooler, and two of them stand watch at the double doors. Moving towards the back one-man trips over Remy’s arm which he curses covering his mouth as he ducks behind the end of the aisle.
“We got one!” A man shouts gripping Katie by her neck from behind. Coughing roughly, she kicks the man in the knee before springing forward. Yukiko jumps in front of her growling as another man steps out drawing a gun up towards her.
“Shit! Get down!” Katie curses ducking down, Yukiko following as the items behind them fly in all directions. “Didn’t think they were actually going to shot us!” She shouts as Lucy tackles the man prying the gun from his hands with a sickening snap. The man lets out a horrid scream as his arm falls limp.
“Rory!”
Lucy stands holding the gun up towards the other men as one by one they are yanked into the aisles. Screams ring out before the beautiful sound of silence lulls the room. Stepping out to the front of the store a man shouts getting Lucy’s attention.
“Put your hands up freaks or the kid gets it!” Looking over her heart nearly drops from her chest.
“You hurt him, and you won’t just have me to worry about!” She shouts as the man tightens his grip on Alex who tries and fails not to let tears run down his face as the gun is kept pressed against the side of his head.
“And what are you going to do? HA!” The man laughs backing up and out the door, the other stepping between them.
“Remy!”
“Preoccupied my dear Lucy! Merde!” He curses as he hits the floor, the rush of wind frying back as he’s tackled to the floor. Pointing the gun at the man’s head he freezes.
“Get off… I am not afraid to put a hole in your head…” The threat is followed with a push to the man’s skull. His hands go up as Remy pulls himself from underneath.
“I’m sorry.” Remy quickly apologizes as he rushes over to the door. Ducking through the broken glass he curses before a loud pop rang through the air.
“What is he doing?” Morris asks stepping out from behind the counter a confused look on his face.
“Searching his arms can reach about two and a half football fields give or take if he strains it but with how many he has it’s better not too.” Henry responds, placing Lilith back into the ice.
“That’s a long way… Do you think he’ll catch them?”
“That’s if they haven’t hide from him yeah.” Lucy responds, stepping out. The man walking ahead of her as she watches the seemingly empty street. “Anything?”
“No, I’m sorry.” Remy says turning to face her, “They either got in a vehicle or are in a very good hiding spot. I don’t feel them.” She nods, taking a second to breath before butting the man in the back of the knee. Knocking him to his knees she trains the barrel at his head.
“Where have they taken my child?!” Her voice is low anger filling every word as the man shakes his head.
“I will never tell.”
“Oh, ty bol'naya sobaka… You will tell me where they are unless you want my dear friend before you to fling you around your little town like a ragdoll.” She threatens dropping to a whisper beside his ear. “Or would you like me to break every bone in your body? Choose…”
For a long moment the man stands his ground staring passed Remy who squats down, rolling his shoulders as a dull pain runs through them. That is before a loud snap his heard and the man falls forward a bit biting his lip as Lucy holds his hand up. His right pointer is bent at an odd angle.
“Would you like another?” She asks and the man shakes his head. “Then where are they?” He doesn’t say anything for a minute, so she shrugs and grabs another finger. Stopping when he shouts.
“Fine! Fine! T-the old light warehouse near the church that’s where the newcomers’ kids are taken before they meet the mighty Will!” Pointing down the road he exclaims as she releases his hand letting his arms drop to the concrete as she stands.
“Spasibo.” She thanks him with a curt nod. Waving her arms as the others step out. “Remy, Katie and Yukiko you will go get Alex. While myself, Morris, Henry, and Lilith will go to the court to get my husband. This ends before the sun makes its appearance. NOW!”
With that they separate into the two groups. Leaving the destroyed convenience store behind.
