The three of them stood there, near the entrance. The strange almost zombie-like hobgoblins no longer guarding the entrance, almost as if something else was guarding the area. This, of course, was likely the hound-like creatures that Amalia had run into earlier. She knew they
were called seekers, but at the time as she glanced around the area of
the cave entrance, her thoughts were on other things.
Finally, after determining that it was safe, the group slowly started approaching the Cave entrance. Upon finally reaching the cave entrance, the group shuffled slowly inside as Amalia moved, casting Mage Light, to illuminate the area around them. The cave itself seemed to pulsate as they delved deeper inside as if the area was alive somehow.
The group continued the trek into the cave entrance, a thicker fog emanating from deeper in the cavern as if this was the source of the perpetual twilight that the Crimson Forest had. Which, given the nature of Void Crystals, and the Abyssal Magic that created them, was quite clear, to begin with.
The group slowly continued descending into the cavern, soon enough, finding themselves inside a circular room, one that had a hole in the roof, letting just enough light into the cave, to show that beyond the slope they had descended down, there were three passages that they could take. As well, near the center, there was one of the Seeker Hounds that wandered the forest. This, understandably had caused the group to freeze near the end of the stairs.
Though, unlike the other two, Amalia had frozen because she felt a strange headache the moment that she saw the three passages. As if some part of her mind was fighting back against something, something she had forgotten. Gripping both her head and her arm, the same spot that had the strange burn mark, the young princess Staggered a bit, as she stepped off the stairs, shortly after the other two.
As for the other two, both of them had taken defensive stances already as they stood there, beside Amalia. Caelyn had already taken out her dagger, and A'ari had her fist up, ready to attack at a moment's notice if need be. Soon enough, Amalia too was able to ready herself, pulling out a dagger as well in one hand, and holding her other up so that she could cast magic if the chance arose.
"What should we do?" A'ari then said, speaking up, as she glanced back at Amalia who as the expert in dealing with Void Crystals, would know how to deal with such situations.
"Ah... I'm... I'm not sure." Amalia soon said, sighing softly as she stood there, watching the Seeker. "The... There aren't many records on Crimson forests, at least there weren't any back when I was at the Academy." She then continued, sighing softly as she continued watching the Seeker Hound. She truly didn't know how to handle this situation. While there was only one hound at the time, they had to face, she knew there was at least one other outside, and likely more, or worse, deeper into the dungeon.
At least, at the moment, the hound before them was docile, as the three of them slowly spread out, with Amalia keeping an eye on the slope that lead out of the cave. Despite this, Amalia was having a bit of an issue concentrating, due to the fact that she still had the strange headache, and now there was even a rhythmic thumping in her ear as if someone's heart was beating right next to her ear.
"It looks like warped flesh, so... theoretically, if information from more well-known Abyssal forests is accurate here as well, then it should be weak to both light, and fire..." Amalia said softly, glancing at the other two. "I'm... not sure if physical damage will be effective though, so..." she continued, as the other two slowly nodded at her, both of them slightly backing off, as if to give the young princess room to attack.
Amalia shuffled slowly as she braced herself, watching the other two, and monitoring the side entrances, and the way they came from as she slowly moved. She nodded her head a bit at Caelyn, whom she trusted would understand, as she began silently chanting for her fire magic, to prep a fireball spell that she hoped would deal with the Seeker in one go, since it was likely at the very least resistant to physical attacks.
As she nodded at the dark elf, almost in unison, both she and A'ari lunged at the Seeker, almost as if this wasn't their first time fighting such a beast, with Caelyn bringing her dagger down on it from above, and in what looked like it's front, and A'ari attacking with her fists in the back. The two of them seemed perfectly in tune with each other, one gaining the Seeker's attention and focus of its own retaliation, with the other coming around in the back to attack.
The two of them continued this exchange, wordlessly in fact, as Amalia prepared her spell, slowly lowering her own dagger as her arms crossed, so she could better focus her magic on the spell, instead of other things. As she did, a light glow of the concentrated magic began overtaking the Mage light that she had cast earlier, something the other two silently noticed, keeping the Seekers attention on them, as the Mage Light slowly dimmed as the princess' focus shifted on charging the fireball, as opposed to maintaining the aforementioned Mage Light.
This went on, for a good 10 minutes or so, when just before the Mage Light fully dissipated, and practically all of the light was now centered around Amalia, and her fire spell, she finally shouted out. "Okay, I'm ready, back off now!" She shouted, as the two others both quickly jumped back from the Seeker, which startled it and left it confused for some time.
Just long enough for Amalia's spell to hit it, a torrent of flames spewed from her outstretched hand, akin more to a flamethrower than a fireball. Something that caused the dark elf to take a further step back, not having expected such a thing.
"So... how long have you known high-tier fire magic, Amalia?" Caelyn then said, a frown on her face as she spoke, as A'ari gigglingly poked the now charred remains of the Seeker hound. "Last I checked, back at the academy, the Archon only showed you having a moderate affinity with all magics, save for fire." She continued, crossing her arms, as she turned to face Amalia. "Which, you should have none, in..."
