I was planning on stealing from this adorable sucker, but this house was giving me the creeps. Dead fur coats and that was saying something. I’ve witnessed my fair share of horrifying sights like flies on a decaying bear on the road. When I first entered this sleepy town, I didn’t expect to run into any kind of trouble. Barely anybody tried to defy me when I was stealing from their stores. Their loot wasn’t even all that great.
This bobbed doll had an unusually large collection of busts twice her size. Their lifeless eyes bore holes into my skull. Honestly, I expected her house to be all gumdrops and butterflies, even a furry rabbit hopping to her side. But…I was pretty sure if a furry rabbit was there, she would have probably shot it. Anyways, I managed to get comfortable…From time to time, I swung my legs. Underneath the cot, metal clinked with my boots.
“Ah be careful, that’s my rifle collection.” She chirped
I stopped my foot swinging then. (somehow)
God knew what was scarier: this girl or her collection.
“What’s your name?” I asked
“Amelia Hidayat and yours?” she waited for the frozen duck to thaw.
“Katherine Aguila. I’m from Sans Francisco.”
My mom was a huge history nerd…She was crazy about Katherine the great…Too bad I never turned out like one of them. But eh wasn’t my fault.
“Why did you leave there and come to this deadbeat town? I heard it’s really sunny over there.” She chopped the washes the frozen vegetables.
“Saying it’s sunny is an understatement.” I skimed through the titles of the books on the shelves.
I tell her about Sans Francisco, about the hustle and bustle and what I loved about it. Of course, it got annoying. My city wasn’t perfect from any angle. It had a hundred problems like filth and homelessness, plus other issues that give me headaches at nights. But it was still my city, no matter how dirty or terrible it might be. Even though I mostly grew up on the road, I still spent a good portion of my childhood there.
As a trained thief, I developed a sense of who to mess with and who not to. And Amelia was definitely not to be messed with
