I let the water rise slightly, and I went much faster. “Woah, that was an extreme acceleration,” I muttered to myself. I looked behind me and saw that Andrea was giving me a thumbs up, I grinned back at her. I looked forward and there was a tree in front of me, I tried to pull back but shot up instead, “Haha! Woooo! Yeah.” I yelled. I looked behind me once more and saw Andrea on the ground, three girls sneering at her. Ms. Parlay was busy, and not paying attention. I felt my anger start to boil over, because of this the water in the pot overflowed, causing me to shoot forward. “Fuck, shit!” I couldn’t slow down, because I was so angry. I mustered all my power and turned around to find myself zooming towards Andrea. I pushed myself down when I was close to her. I circled around her, slowly rising up, fire trailing behind me so that she was surrounded in a tornado of fire. She was completely safe because at the time my abilities were controlled by my emotions. I saw the girls fly back in surprise, and Andrea looked up at me in awe. The end of the broom caught on fire, and I crashed into the ground. I quickly picked myself up, rushing over to Andrea, through the fire, seeing as it was still surrounding her but slowly dying out. “Are you okay?!” I questioned worriedly.
“H-Hi. I’m fine, this is, um, cool,” she said awkwardly, pointing towards the fire cyclone.
“Yeah, that was unexpected. I was just gonna fly by to distract them or something.” I laughed, “Did I hurt you?”
She stood up as the fire dispersed and patted my head, “It’s fine.” she grinned. Horus flew over to us, sitting on my shoulder and pecking my head. “Your eyes,” she started, I gave her an inquisitive look, “They’re gold.”
I chuckled slightly, “I don’t have gold eyes, my eyes are pink stupid.” I smiled and turned to face the other second years. They had run away already, but the rest of the class had surrounded us.
“Concord Lance! Detention!” Ms. Parlay ordered.
“Hehe, that’s reasonable.” I laughed nervously.
“You too, Andrea!” she yelled, fuming with anger. Andrea shrugged and snickered slightly.
Sylvia, Vera, and I started walking to our next class after I said bye to Andrea. “So what do we do here?” I asked Vera and Sylvia.
“Oh, ya just hang with your familiar, although the rest of the first years are in this class now,” Sylvia explained with a smile.
“Ohhh, I see. So, Vera, you must be pretty excited.” I laughed.
“I hate you.” she deadpanned.
“Oof, I’m hurt.” I joked. Familiars training is on the other side of the school, basically the backyard. It’s pretty easy to get there because there are witches whose jobs are to take us around the school. We hopped onto the field, Mrs. Roman was there with a few other girls.
“Ah, ladies welcome. Concord, why is your Familiar out already?” she asked as soon as we walked up to her.
Horus was sitting on my head, “Oh, Ms. Commerce told me to keep him out. Just in case he does something interesting.” He had also lit up as soon as my anger fumed during flying classes.
“I see, well then I suppose it’s okay.” she agreed. “I am glad you’re feeling better because today we are doing an actual lesson.” the rest of the class was there, it was massive. All the first years together had to have been at least 200 people. It was insane. The field was very large though, so we all had lots of space. “We’re going to be testing your Familiars abilities. Every familiar has an ability, it varies from person to person. My familiars ability is a shield essentially because I tend to be very protective. Samuel, please show us.” she requested, talking to the cat. The cat jumped in front of her, floating gently and creating a shield protecting Mrs. Roman.
“Cool,” I said quietly.
“Now, if you tend to lean on the side of destruction your familiers powers will emanate that. Of course, there are other types of protectiveness, like offense rather than defense,” she explained. “Concord, you first,” she ordered.
“Oh, uh, I really don’t think that’s a good idea. I mean, I just do-” she cut me off.
“That was not a request.” she lectured.
I sighed, “Ok, Horus. Do so-” I was cut off once more.
“You named your phoenix after the Egyptian sun god?” I heard someone ask.
He flew off my head, and onto the ground, burning the area around him, “Uh, sort of. I suppose. So, uh, Horus, do something cool I guess.” I ordered with uncertainty. He sighed, “You don’t have to.” I offered. He flew up, inhaling largely, he tipped his head, looking up at the sky. He opened his mouth and a blaze of fire came from it, shooting into the sky. It rose higher and higher until it reached the clouds, splitting it in two. “Holy shit!” I exclaimed.
“Well then I’ll admit that was pre-” Mrs. Roman was cut off by a screech from Horus.
“I don’t think it’s done.” The long blaze had curled into a ball and was falling. A ball of fire was falling to the ground, it was massive and terrifying. It exploded far away from the students, not wanting to endanger them, “That was cool.” I laughed. He yawned, and perched on my head once more, pecking gently at my head again.
Mrs. Roman’s eyes were wide, “Don’t do that near the school, it could break something. Anyways, that was impressive. But dangerous, unruly, teach him to control it better.” I nodded.
