ZELLA’S POV :
I felt warm sunlight on my face. How long had it been since I had been so relaxed? Was I sleeping?
What time is it? I can't tell.
I should get up. I really should. But I feel so tired. Maybe I can rest a little? Well, I'm sure if it was breakfast time Mom would come to wake me up.
It's warm. I can feel the pleasant breeze on my face. And the sand under me feels so cool-
Wait. What?
Sand?
Oh yes. I remember. I had passed out.
Damn it.
How long did I sleep? Where am I?
Just as I was about to open my eyes I heard leaves crunching.
There was someone here.
My heartbeat quickened as I heard them approach me.
I pretended to sleep and the steps stopped. Holding my breath.
“Shhh. She's waking up.”
“What are you talking about? No one can wake up here.”
“But her heart rate is fluctuating.”
“Is she having a nightmare? Wait let me check.”
There were two voices, a male and a female.
How could they know that my heart rate is fluctuating without checking my pulse? What do they mean by checking if I am having a nightmare? That's not possible, is it?
And if they really can check if I am having a dream or not, then I'm screwed haha.
I grabbed some sand in my fist slowly and carefully.
“Sh-she’s awake-” gasped one of them.
I opened my eyes and flung sand in their faces as I jumped to my feet and backed away. I saw them crouching down.
“Wait! Don't run!”
Well no.
I had seen enough horror movies to know that when someone said this I was supposed to do exactly what they told me not to. Run.
“How are you gonna get out anyway?” I heard one of them say, running out of breath.
As I turned back I saw both of them running behind me. How had they already caught up to me? Didn't I throw sand in their eyes? How did they recover so easily? Did I miss?
Definitely not.
Wait. It can't be. There's no way.
I turned around to confirm my suspicions and sure enough… they were wearing…
“Swimming goggles?” I asked, running out of breath.
The idea in itself was so weird that I lost my balance and tripped. My pursuers also stopped. And for a while we were all silent, catching our breaths.
I looked up at them properly for the first time. One of my pursuers was a man in his late twenties in a suit and wait for it…swimming goggles. And what was it poking behind him? Fairy wings?
Wait. Wait. Wait.
What?
Well, a man wearing a suit, with goggles and fairy wings isn't as uncanny if I take everything that happened this day into consideration right?
“Are you a fairy?” I asked.
“WHAT?” the man shrieked. “No, I'm not!”
“Then those fairy wings-?”
“Oh,” he asked as his face reddened. “These are my daughter's! Totally not mine.”
I looked as a tiny figure peeked from behind the man.
It was a girl! An adorable six year old in a pink fairy frock and well, goggles. It was obvious that she was his daughter as they both had the same black hair, brown eyes, pale skin and shy demeanour.
There are only two thoughts in my mind.
Firstly, I wanna squeeze her cheeks. I managed to control that urge.
Secondly, where were we and how to get out of here?
“We are in Oblivion.” I heard the little girl say.
Did she just read my mind?
“Yes, I did,” she said in a timid voice.
“Oh. I see.” I replied, laughing nervously.
“I am Kris Delphi.” said the man “ And this is my daughter, Phoebe Delphi. We are constants from World Zero. Since you are here, you know about the worlds right?”
“Yes. I am Zella, a variable from World Seven.” I replied.
Mr Delphi’s expression darkened for a moment and then turned back to his kind smile.
“It’s finally time huh?” He mumbled.
He then cleared his throat and answered the question that I most wanted the answer to.
