Amani and Sahar were both left laying in rubble, utterly defeated after their encounter with Lando. Lando straightened his hat and prepared to go looking for Shula who had run off earlier.
"She couldn’t have gotten very far with those injuries, she should definitely still be within the town. If I wasn’t so busy protecting citizens from the fire I would be able to track her specific aura from a longer range. Sucks that I gotta manually manipulate the fire. It would be easier if I had a Sol Shrine for this but hey, you don't always bring the right tools. I’ll have to search for her with my eyes."
------------------------------
Shula held on to Ren until she was done crying. Once she let go she apologized.
“I'm sorry for letting my tears burn you.”
“Nah don’t worry about it, some hot water ain’t enough to bother me.” He was clearly in pain.
Ren looked up. He was thinking about what Angel may be doing at the moment.
‘He’s more level headed than me so he’ll be okay. Now my main issue is finding him.’
“Hey Lizard, I have an idea. You can control fire right?”
Shula looks down. “Sorta.”
Ren smiles with joy. “That’s enough for me!”
He pointed at the sky above them. “Could you shoot a large ball of fire into the sky?”
Shula wasn’t too keen on doing so since Lando was still chasing her.
“What if someone finds us?”
“That’s the goal. I need to get in touch with my brother.”
This scared Shula since she still didn’t know if she could trust Ren. He may have been after her as well.
“I’m not that good at controlling it.”
“That’s fine. I just need a ton of it to go into the air.” ‘I know Angel will see the fire and want to investigate.’
“You aren’t going to hurt me?”
Ren looked at the fire behind her. “I don’t even think I could to be honest. I don’t know what you went through back there, but trust me, I don’t wanna hurt you.”
Shula still felt doubtful but decided to do what he asked since so far he had been kind.
‘I guess if he wanted to hurt me he could’ve done it by now’
Shula shot a ball of fire into the sky a few hundred feet before letting it explode. This caught the attention of Angel’s party, and Lando.
Angel was preparing to go into the burning Inn but deemed the area where the fire shot up to be a point of interest.
“We should investigate where that light came from. I have a good feeling about this.”
He looks to see that Akira is already charging in the direction of the flame with Rashid following close behind.
“TO BATTLE” Akira shouted.
“FIREWORKS” Rashid yelled.
Angel sighed and followed them.
------------------------------
Lando was also heading toward the direction of the fire on foot.
‘She made it pretty far out.’
Suddenly the whole city went dark. The fires disappeared, and a pink fog filled the atmosphere. Every person in the town had their ears bragaded with loud sounds of cracks and scratches. The sound wasn’t coming from anywhere specifically. Instead it was entering directly to the ears of anyone who could hear it. Before Lando’s eyes people begin to disappear in groups. This was all happening in a matter of seconds. He used his hands to cover his ears from the dreadful noise but couldn't figure out what exactly was happening to the town. Before he could get a solid grasp on the situation, a tall furry black figure with an ox skull charged at him. His reactionary response was to block the creatures attack however in doing so he realized a problem. The attack didn’t go through his body.
‘As long as I manifest the Phoenix I should be intangible, so why is he able to touch me? My Sol Manifestation shouldn’t have run out yet.’
More of the figures begin to charge at Lando. He begins to hold them off using only his physical strength.
------------------------------
Once the fog appeared Angel immediately recognized the situation.
‘So, they’ve made their move.’
Left and right people begin getting snatched by the mysterious “Demons.” One of the figures leaps from a roof and pins Akira down. Angel draws his katana and attacks but the creature quickly leaps out of the way. The creature looks at Angel, pauses, then pulls out a book. It scans some pages of the book, closes it, and runs off. Akira and Rashid were scared. Rashid helped Akira off the floor and then turned to Angel.
“I thought they kidnapped people.”
Angel was also confused. ‘Is there a reason why they won’t attack me? I’d assumed that they ruthlessly killed anyone who seemed like they would fight back because of the instance in the cabin but that may not be the case for me.’
He put away his weapon. “We aren’t too far from where the fire was shot, let's just keep heading towards it.”
Akira was concerned “What about the demons and the people vanishing?”
“Sorry to break it to you but I don’t think we’ll be able to do anything about the people disappearing. But we can still make use of this situation. Let's catch one!”
