Waking up due to his biological clock, Huang Mao instinctively looked at the clock on his bedside table. It was 6 o'clock in the morning. The time for him to wake up. Last night he had slept around 02:30 A.M.
Sitting on his bed, he yawned for a couple of time before he dragged his tired body to the bathroom.
Soon, he emerged from the bathroom and he went to the kitchen to boil a water. After that he took a fish from his small refrigerator and thawed it. While waiting for the hot water and thawed fish, he went to look at the small black cat inside the box on the table.
His eyes met with a pair of round dual colour eyes.
Both the human and animal blinked their eyes in surprise before the cat meowed in response. Huang Mao immediately smiled.
"Are you hungry?" He asked the black cat and got a meow in response.
So cute!
He went to the kitchen and turned off the gas. He then looked at the thawed fish and nodded his head in satisfaction. He would make a normal fried fish for his cat and a sandwich with scrambled egg for himself.
He cooked the fish first and let it cool down. He then cooked scrambled egg and prepared two slices of bread on the plate. Then he made a tea for himself and took a milk he just bought two days ago to feed the cat. He warmed the milk on the stove first and when it lukewarm, he removed it and put it on the bowl.
First he brought the already cool fried fish and the lukewarm milk to the table. Because, he was afraid of hurting the cat, he carefully cradled the little thing and put it on the table. He moved the plate with fish and a bowl of milk closer to the cat, so, it could easily eat and drink.
"I hope you'll like the fish and milk."
The black cat meowed to him before it moved a bit closer to the fish. Maybe the smell of the fried fish was good, it didn't take long for the cat to gobble it up.
Huang Mao sighed in relieve and went to eat his breakfast next to the cat. He occasionally took a look at the small thing and smiled.
"I haven't given you a name yet," he said as he rubbed the small furry head. The cat had a beautiful pure black shiny fur. "I know! Your name will be Xiao Hei!"
The cat lifted its head from the bowl of milk just for a second before he again licked the milk.
Looking at the clock on his bedside table, he saw it was already six and half. He finished his breakfast and took his bag which contained his wallet and phone with him.
He was about to leave the house but then stopped. He glanced at the small cat that lie down contentedly on the table. The cat was injured and no one would be in the house. His work was until midnight. He decided to put the small animal back to the box and brought him out with him.
On the way to his work, he would leave the little thing at Dr. Mu's clinic. He didn't want to trouble the vet but he didn't have anyone else he could ask for help.
Hopefully, Dr. Mu would be able to help him.
Stopping in front of the still closed clinic, Huang Mao pushed the doorbell for the house. The clinic hadn't opened yet this early morning and it was opened from 08:30 A.M - 09.00 P.M. He waited for three minutes before the door was opened by the handsome vet.
Dr. Mu looked like he just finished a shower, his hair was still dripping with water, "Xiao Mao?" he then saw the box and raised an eyebrow, "what's the matter? Is there any problem with your cat?"
Huang Mao smiled guiltily. He greeted the vet, "morning, Dr. Mu. That I need to go to work but Xiao Hei is hurt and no one can take care of it while I'm working."
Dr. Mu nodded in understanding. He readily took the box and smiled down at the black cat. "Its name is Xiao Hei?"
"Ah, yes. I just named it this morning." Huang Mao said in a soft voice. "That... Dr. Mu..."
"It's okay. I know you're busy working until late night. Since Xiao Hei is injured, I'll take care of it here until it get well. If you have time, you can visit Xiao Hei."
Bowing to the kind vet, Huang Mao thanked him again before he said bye to the black cat and hurried over to his workplace.
Huang Mao's workplace was at an inconvenient store, 7-24. It opened 24 hours and Huang Mao work there from 07:00 A.M until 07:00 P.M and after that he had a part time job at a local bar as a waiter from 08:00 P.M until 01:00 A.M.
Thinking to himself, Huang Mao thought he could visit his cat during his one hour break. It didn't take long for him to reach the vet clinic. Walking only take about five to seven minutes. That was the convenience working at a small neighbourhood where everything could be found within the walking distance.
As soon as he arrived at the store, he greeted his coworkers. There were only the three of them not included the manager.
He went to the locker room to wear the vest provided by the store. It was a plain white vest with orange stripes.
"How are you, MaoMao?" a male in his twenty asked nicely.
Huang Mao looked towards the voice and smiled, "Xiao Meng, I'm fine. How was your exam?"
Xiao Meng or his fullname Yu Meng, was a university student. He majored in civil engineering course. He was twenty years old and was working part time to pay for his tuition fees.
The young man sighed as he wiped the shelves. "I barely passed. Luckily, I don't need to repeat the subject."
Huang Mao smiled at the young man and was a little bit envious. He was just a high school graduate. He wanted to study too but he had no time and money.
"MaoMao, today you'll be at the counter." Shi Lian, a 26 years old young woman pat the young man's shoulder, breaking his thought.
Huang Mao smiled and nodded his head. "Okay, Shi jie."
Huang Mao took care of the counter as a cashier. He waited upon the counter until it was the time for his lunch break. He removed the vest, ready to get out.
"Shi jie, I'll be going out first," he told the older woman and left the shop. He didn't stop at other places and headed straight to the vet clinic.
He only had one hour rest and he wanted to see Xiao Hei. He wondered if the cat behave itself?
