As Sua walked down the east wing corridor she
spotted Prince Ichibad coming from the opposite far away. She noticed that prince
Ichibad had a handsome and smart figure. His boyish, playful looks were
distinctive and special enough to set him apart from a crowd. But the years
spent in the military had made him slightly tough and upon closer inspection
one could see the ruggedness on his face. However his blonde hair were like
sunshine to his features and his brown eyes added warmth to his face. Perhaps
the only one similar physical attribute he shared with Amelia were his brown
eyes. Even Amelia’s mother had remarked of how good the pair looked once she
saw Ichibad’s portrait; a pair of deer and doe out in the wilderness. Sua too
had believed that the couple looked like a pair made in heaven, however she was
unaware of how head-achingly similarly their personalities were too.
In fact Sua was surprised of how childish Ichibad became in Amelia’s presence. Though he was nineteen, he still was an army man and had experienced much dogged situations in his life. She had expected him to be mature all round the clock. But unexpectedly he lost his stiff demeanour and was quite cunningly playful when the princess was around. But it was something that made him look innocent and deep down Sua prayed that instead of conflicts Ichibad and Amelia found comfort at heart within each other.
“Your Highness”, Sua bowed as Ichibad reached closer.
“Sua! How’ve you been?”
“I’ve been well my lord. I pray your highness has been in good health too.”
“Yes fortunately. And…Amelia?”
“Yes, her highness has been well too. She… asked me to relay a message to you.”
“Ah! She has? What is it? I was hoping to have a delightful conversation with her at supper anyway. But what word does she have for me? Pray speak.”
Ichibad’s eyes sparkled as he perked up curious as he motioned Sua to speak.
“Your highness, Princess Amelia does not wish to discomfort you. I believe you were heading to the dining hall, she looks forward to meeting you there directly, instead of…”
“Oh, oh is that so? Oh no how could I do that? I must meet my wife before I sit for dinner. Where are my manners? Is she in her dressing room? Getting ready?”
Sua nodded, “Yes your highness.”
Prince Ichibad at once marched down the corridor. It was apparent what went in the prince’s mind. A mischievous grin brightened his face as he folded his hands behind his back and hummed silently to himself. What so if the princess requested to see him at the dining hall, he was going to do the exact opposite of it; meet her before then. But Sua silently shook her head as she held her head between her fingers. This was exactly what Amelia wanted. The prince’s presence to greet and respect his wife without the wife asking for it; Amelia was one step ahead. She knew if she relayed such news Ichibad would surely go against her wishes and rush to meet her at once, and this time, Sua had caught on it too. But alas! It was of no use, she was simply an old maid who could not deny her mistress’s request nor could she whisk herself of existence as of not to relay the message. Thus Amelia played Ichibad like a fiddle while Sua stood as a foolish bystander. What Sua could do now was to slowly follow Ichibad behind like a sloth. She knew what she could expect once she reached Amelia’s chamber and she was not looking forward to it.
…
Amelia sat on the cushioned stool as she looked at herself in the mirror while she brushed her long, brunette hair. It reminded her of her mother as it was something she took after her. Suddenly her eyes became watery and she clasped her hands together to take a deep breath. She looked at herself closely in the mirror, smiled warmly and nodded, “It is alright. It is alright.”
Amelia stood up from her seat and walked towards her bedroom chamber, where she was greeted by Polly; Amelia’s brown furred, Persian cat whom she had brought back from Amethyst kingdom. The princess bended down to pick the cat from the ground and cuddled her in her arms while she twirled around in her plum coloured silk dress.
“O dear Polly! Do you know that you are one and only good thing in this castle? If it weren’t for Sua and you, I would have already gone mental! Heavens, I feel so upset! And I miss Mama so much! Don’t you wanna go see Grandma soon? Huh Polly?” Amelia pouted as she whined to her clueless cat. But Polly had had enough attention for the day as she shrieked and jumped off of Amelia’s arms and headed out the front door of the bedroom. Amelia sighed as she giggled. She shook her head as she turned around to go back to the dressing room but was greeted with a familiar voice.
“How do you do, Miss?”, Ichibad addressed Amelia as he walked into the bedroom chamber with a fed up Polly held tightly in his arms.
Amelia looked back and nodded her head, “I’ve been well, Sir. And yourself?”
“Never better.”
Amelia smirked as she remarked, “I would have known better of your well being prior to your arrival though, had your ink lasted you longer to write more than just a sentence in your letter. Isn’t that so?”
“I think I wrote well of what was enough. You see me standing sound here, don’t you?”
“I do. But frankly speaking, isn’t it better etiquette to at least write a bit more of a proper letter when addressing someone formally?”
“Is that so? I hadn’t known. I was only but writing to you. I did write a proper letter to Father.”
“Oh…then I didn’t even need to know the date of your arrival, you might as well have just made a grand, surprise entrance wearing a ball gown-”
“And you still wouldn’t be amused.”
“I wouldn’t. You’d still look ugly.” Amelia claimed with a serious, stiff face.
“Hah! Excuse m-”
Just then Polly purred loudly and escaped from Ichibad’s hands out the bedroom door. Amelia and Ichibad both turned to look at the running cat and then towards each other in complain.
“Alright, Polly clearly did not like or agree what you just said. Look how she ran away!” Ichibad declared.
“Excuse me? Polly is my cat! She agrees with whatever I say.” Amelia protested as she tapped her chest lightly.
“Then why did she run away?”
“Oh she could not stand being longer in your smelly hands.”
“Uh- Pardon? What? My hands are not smelly!”
“Blah Blah, I cannot hear you anymore!” Amelia held her hands to her ears and blocked them from all noises as she shook her head and walked away from Ichibad.
“Are you actually doing this right now?” Ichibad followed her from behind.
“Blah Blah Blah.” Amelia continued, “You couldn’t write but two sentences more in your stupid letter but have a lot of garbage to spill from your mouth. I wouldn’t listen anymore.”
“You wouldn’t have read it either way!” Ichibad swirled from behind and grabbed held Amelia’s hands to take them away from her ears. But Amelia held them firmly and teased her husband by sticking out her tongue like a little child while shaking her head annoyingly. “Hey why should I write it any longer if you wouldn’t even read it anyway? Are you completely sure you even knew I would arrive today?”
“I would have read it and I knew about your arrival date. It was the only thing written in that stupid letter.”
“Aha! You can hear me!”
“No I cannot!”
“Yes you can! Don’t be a fool!”
“I cannot hear you! I will not listen to another word from your mouth!”
“Amelia, are you out of your mind?”
“Your highness.” Sua spoke as she gently tapped on the door. The view that held her eyes of a young wrestling royal couple made a tear trickle down her cheek. She knew they would bicker and it would be about that damned letter. “I am happy to see her highness and the prince so joyous to see each other and it really aches my heart to be interfering your, well…splendid reunion, but I’m afraid-” Sua held up her right hand to her mouth as her voice quivered in emotion. “I’m afraid we’ll be late for dinner.”
