It took about five minutes for Jocelyn to calm down enough to allow her to resume the class. Not wanting any more interruptions, no matter how funny.
A“ Moving on, those of you who have had their statuses revealed, please raise your hands when you have an affinity in these, Artisan- Emotive, Fire, Earth, Water, Air. " Jocelyn said. Nearly half the class raised their hands, including the baby.
" Craftial- Precision, Metal, Jewel, Atomic, Bond, Crafting. " The hands were noticeably less, with even the baby opting out.
"Industrial- Mind, Nature, Power, Substance, Electromagnetism,Thermodynamics.” The hands amounted to 9 now.
“Societal- Energy, Law, Alchemy which is Chaos and Order for those of you attached to the grade system”-Jocelyn looked at the baby pointedly-” Galacsia, Battle are also Societal but seldom used since the nature of these affinities puts them as a more Grade like in stratification” As expected there were no hands, anyone with a Societal or Civilizational affinity would have never been left in this dump and instead been hurried of to one of those fancy academies.
“Finally Civizational-Space, Time, Primordial Chaos, Source Mist, Matter. These are the building blocks of the world and can influence an entire civilization.” Jocelyn finished, not really accepting any takers. To her utter shock the baby raised his hand.
“Well...Fuck” Jocelyn said, her head suddenly filled with the image of the baby throwing her into another dimension when she gave him low marks.
Raina, her family's bunker, Launeior
Raina woke up to an empty room. Furnished in an opulent fashion, the room reminded Raina of one of her ex-lovers bedrooms so much that for a split second she thought that she had somehow been captured by him. Thankfully for her, her memory reasserted itself, she was presumably in her family's bunker. It made sense that it would have similar furnishings, fashion was after all set by the Factions, another petty way for them to compete. Shaking her head at the Factions politics,
Raina looked around for her daughter, at first she thought that she was just kept away, perhaps to protect her from the overreaching arms of her half-asleep mother. But soon Raina realised that she had erred, her daughter was not in her vicinity. What had they done to her? Was she being held hostage? Raina began panicking, her brain spiraling, thankfully for her she heard the cry of her baby, not nearby but a mages' senses were sharp, especially when enhanced by the natural supernatural-like boost to their faculties that all protective mothers seemed to gain when they felt that their wards were in danger.
The cry reminded Raina that her daughter would need feeding and her… captors? Guests? Or just plain people that she had a complicated relationship with? Whatever the case, it was apparent that they had been providing for her daughter while she was indisposed. Hopefully, that was all it was.
Prepping her now refilled mana, Raina walked out of the room, her confidence in her daughter's welfare growing at the fact that the door was unlocked. Surely, someone with hostile intentions would lock the door.
Next up, facing the people or at least five of them, if her mana scans were correct. Stepping outside, Raina found even more of the overly opulent furnishings, apparently 'grandiose' was the theme of the bunker. Typical of her parents.
Raina stepped lightly through the corridor, wanting to keep the family unaware of her wakeful state for as long as possible while also not giving the impression that she was trying to sneak around. It sounded easy but was quite difficult when you were facing a powerful grade 4 like the transmigrator probably was.
The transmigrator himself was a conundrum. On one hand, associating herself with such people brought nothing but trouble, on the other hand, the transmigrator offered her what was perhaps her only way to ever take revenge against the Palvalors for their actions. But first she must ensure that said transmigrator did not kill her.
Raina stepped into what was probably the side hall, usually the most used Hall since the main one ended up too big to use in houses like this. As expected l, the main Hall was in use, apparently Raina had arrived just in time for dinner.
Donelana Marine
Donelane quite liked the taste of her spaghetti, it was one of her favourite dishes, and a specialty of Launeior since it was brought here by its irresponsible Founder. Today sadly, it seemed that her spaghetti was going to get cold. The Mages’ daughter was as bratty as you’d expect her to be and more. Even her first had not demanded as much attention and she hoped her still unborn third wouldn’t either. The second one had not demanded much attention at all, at first it seemed like she had gotten herselves a quiet child, later they found that they just had a very mature transmigrator for a child.
At least the mage hadn’t woken up yet, she was not in the mood to deal with a protective mother, especially one that was clearly erratic and powerful. Thankfully, she had her son for protection. With his Matter magic he should be able to protect them from anything the mage could dish out, or at least that is what Donelane assumed, who knew how these high class magics worked? All she and her husband had was three Primal and one Grade 1 element.
Useless for the most part but at least her Fire affinity allowed for some heat in the winters when they could not afford to run the heating system. That hadn’t been a problem for a while though, this new bunker was equipped with some good systems.
“Waaah” the baby girl cried again, prompting Donelane to go feed her for the fifth time in the last half hour, at this point she was convinced that she was doing something wrong. Maybe the baby needed some special magical booster powder?
Wondering if she should check with her second about it, Donelane checked the bunker’s surveillance system to ensure that the Mage hadn’t woken up while she was away. Frankly, she had expected nothing and was quite surprised when she found the Mage walking down the hallway weirdly. What exactly was the Mage trying to accomplish? There was no interference form a sneaking skill, nor was there any detectable magic around and yet the Mages’ body language was like that of an alert hunter. Not wanting any harm to come to her family, Donelane rushed to the dining hall, sadly for her, she had forgotten that in this new house of hers, the distance between places was quite large. By the time Donelane arrived at the hall, the Mage was already there.
