Soon diner is ready, and Jin eats it
with Thorne. Thorne for some reason gives Jin the same pill as he did the
previous evening saying it’s ‘just in case’. The food is also similar to what
Jin ate before, there still isn’t anything else then vegetables, fruits and
rice. It doesn’t matter though, because even though the ingredients are similar,
the dish is different every time, and it tastes great.
Even though they are sitting at the dining table together, they eat in complete silence. After diner, Thorne once again prepares a bath and new clothes for Jin, and even though Jin isn’t tired yet, to not bother Thorne he stays in the room that has been assigned to him for the rest of the evening till he goes to bed. Even when it’s already late and Jin feels it’s time to sleep, Thorne is still working in the room that is his office. Jin wonders what kind of job he has, that he has to work till this late and not live near any city or village. Instead of wondering more about Thorne, whose actions and lack of emotions make him seem mysterious, he thinks once again about how he got here. With that thought, he falls asleep
That night, he dreams about boarding a plane, with his suitcase containing his laptop, important papers clothes and everything. At the airport it seems one of his close colleagues dropped him off, and wished him good luck and fun on his trip. Jin even dreams about what he ate in the plane and how he landed. After landing he got in a taxi and said an address. That’s where the dream stops, as something is blocking him from remembering where he went with the taxi.
Jin wakes up. It’s only 8 am, but when he gets dressed, this time in a dark purple button up shirt with black chinos, and goes downstairs, Thorne is already waiting for him at the dining table with breakfast. Does he not sleep? He worked till late last night, and now he’s already up, fully dressed and having prepared breakfast. Jin is about to ask something, but Thorne is faster.
‘Did you sleep well?’
Jin feels like he should be the one asking that, but he smiles and replies ‘Yes, the bed is very comfortable, thank you.’
‘Good, since there’s quite a lot scheduled for today. As I mentioned, we should go block your cards, and see whether any of your things have been found. Also think about whether there is anything else you need, as you won’t be going to the village often.’
Jin just nods, and after breakfast they get ready to leave. Before they leave, Thorne gives Jin a nice pair of black shoes, a long coat, that matches the rest of the outfit, and a watch as well. Jin wonder what he needs a watch for, but he doesn’t say anything.
For the first time in two days Jin is outside the mansion again. It’s a little windy outside, but the sun is shining. The air here feels really fresh, especially to Jin who has lived in a big city his whole life.
Silently Jin follows Thorne around the house, to a parked car. This car doesn’t look as fancy as the other car Jin saw when he first came to the mansion, but the car still looks expensive, and it’s clearly a better choice for riding the kind of road that is next to Thorne’s house. Thorne opens the door on the front-right, and Jin gets in. Thorne takes the driver’s seat and starts driving.
The road is very wobbly, so they drive slowly. They drive about half an hour until they get to a slightly better road, that would be suitable for most cars. From there it takes another small hour to get to a big village. The whole ride they say nothing.
Once they reach the village, Thorne drives to the police station there, and they get out of the car. They find a police officer there and Thorne quickly discusses some things with him. Soon the police officer goes into another room and comes back with a driver’s license. It’s Jin’s. The police officer needs to check Jin’s identity first, so he questions him about his date of birth, nationality, Jin’s fingerprint and signature is also checked. After some time, the police officer finally can give Jin his drivers license.
After that they also report his passport and bank card missing and then leave. Even though his drivers license probably isn’t a legal form of identification when he’s not in the country he lives in, but it definitely is better than nothing. With this they go to a bank, and once again some details need to be checked before his card is blocked.
Having arranged the most important things, Jin feels much more at ease. In the meantime he has also asked for a temporary visum, so he won’t be in the country illegally.
When they’re done with this, it’s already getting late in the afternoon, but they’re not done yet. Thorne takes Jin to a clothing store. There Jin tries on many different shirts and pants, all which Thorne chooses. He also tries on some coats, as it is cold, so he’ll need some. After they have chosen most of the clothes, Thorne spots a nice scarf. He walks up to Jin, and puts it around his neck. As he does that, he feels he comes a little too close, and his mind goes blank for a moment. Jin is surprised to see Thorne suddenly freeze up like that for a few seconds, and for the first time Thorne’s eyes look a little scary. Luckily Thorne soon controls himself again, quickly finishes putting on the scarf, and goes outside to get some fresh air for a moment while the clerk packs up all the stuff they chose.
When Thorne comes back to pay, and even after, he’s just as calm and collected as always and Jin feels like that small freeze up might have been something made up by his own brain.
Both of them once again say nothing, and as it is already late and getting dark, they quickly get something to eat and then start driving back. Jin falls asleep during the drive. Just as they arrive, Thorne sees Jin is still breathing calmly with his eyes closed.
‘I’m sorry’ he whispers quietly. Jin wakes up hearing this, but for some reason he leaves his eyes closed for a moment longer.
‘I don’t know what came over me, this time… and last time as well. This never happened before, but I promise it won’t happen again either.’ Even though Thorne says it very quietly, Jin who isn’t asleep anymore hears all of it. Is he talking about what happened at the clothing store? That isn’t anything to worry about, right? And what did he mean by ‘last time’? He feels like he heard something he kinda shouldn’t have, so he pretends to sleep just a little longer before he sleepily opens his eyes and in a surprised tone says ‘Ah, we’ve already reached?’
