The student holding the steel pipe yelled, "Huh?! You think we're messing around here, huh?!"
Mr. Arcturus was bored by how predictably the students behaved, though he was more than happy to witness them being energetic rather than to see gloomy faces. He understood that they hated him simply for being there, but he longed for something different. He couldn't control what was about to happen, but everything always seemed to end up the same way, which he found utterly boring.
While Mr. Arturus was still in his thoughts, the student swung his steel weapon once more at his shoulder, aiming to target the deltoid area since he knew this muscle was close to sensitive areas to the human body and one of the muscles that are difficult to heal. The student calculated carefully by hitting the muscle part that connects to the neck, chest, and arm. Striking this area could potentially paralyze a quarter of the teacher's upper body if only hit with enough strength.
Mr. Arcturus anticipated the attack by reading his student's movements. He prepared to dodge, but when he glanced to his side for a space to step into, he realized another student was standing there, someone he had nearly forgotten about.
The classroom's space wasn’t that big unlike the normal classrooms in the campus, theirs was somehow cramped and smaller. The female student was unsure of what to do so she became completely glued on her spot. She knew the aggressive student wielding the steel pipe was unlikely to harm his classmates by a simple mistake, but the confined space left her uncertain. That left her to choose whether to move or stay put.
Mr. Arcturus was prepared to shield the female student with his own body, but something happened instead. Zora Fauré, the student Mr. Arcturus suspected to be the class leader, intervened. He stopped the aggressive student, who was on the verge of striking them all with his heavy weapon.
Zora placed a firm hand on the student's shoulder and said, 'Stop' and everything stopped. Mr. Arcturus noticed the command and saw the student immediately complied, and the abrupt halt of the weapon's force sent a jolt through Mr. Arcturus’ neck. He could feel the residual tension in the air affecting the female student he had nearly shielded.
The rest of the students fell silent as soon as they saw Zora stepped in to intervene. There were no words left in their mouths, only gulping and a bunch of sweating and heavy breaths. It’s as if Zora was the only one who could shut them down without uttering a word, and Mr. Arcturus realized he could use this to his advantage to maintain order. Having Zora's influence on his side would be a significant asset. That would at least help him a lot if he wanted some peace in the class. But before that, he needed to get on Zora's good side or strike a deal with him to make his plan work.
"T! Four! L! Five!" Zora shouted out of the blue as if he’s calling out names in the crowd. "T4L5!” he repeated, the words rang throughout the entire classroom.
The students looked at Zora with mixed feelings of doubt and excitement when he shouted the code T4L5. They weren’t sure if they should act on it right away, thinking Zora might just be trying to stir them up. Using the code on a teacher who seemed unaware felt risky. Still, they seemed like they were looking forward to it even though some were a bit nervous because of how the code hadn’t been used for a while. They were all caught up in the thrill of it, despite some underlying worry.
"T4L5? A-Are you sure?" Idris asked, sounding unsure. “But that’s our last straw, Zora! We haven’t even poured our all yet!” But Zora didn’t say anything back, he just remained silent while intently throwing daggers at Mr. Arcturus.
As they looked at Zora’s face to figure out if he was being serious, they realized his face showed no signs of joking around. It was clear he meant what he said. In fact, they had never seen him not being serious for once.
No matter what Idris would say to him, he’d still have no intention of acknowledging it. And if Idris would push himself further, things would only get worse, especially since it was Zora he was dealing with. So, Idris chose to follow the code, ran outside without saying a word, and began doing what he needed to do.
Other students began heading out as well to get started following the plan which Mr. Arcturus had no knowledge of.
The girl he tried to protect shoved him after seeing her classmates starting to cooperate with one another, making him step back in confusion. He had hoped to at least get a thank you from her, even though he didn't really need it. But she didn't owe him anything or even from that small act so he just brushed it off and followed her movements with his eyes at where she went. She ran off just like the others while other students stayed inside and went according to the plan while waiting for another signal.
Mr. Arcturus was thrilled to see everyone suddenly working together. He tilted his head looking curious while also fumbling in his pocket appearing confused. Even though he felt something bad was about to happen to him later on, a moment of clarity broke through; that what Zora had shouted was definitely a signal. But setting that aside, he believed this could be an exciting and fun experience where he could silently study the students’ behavior and teamwork. He thought this moment might only happen once, and missing it might be a big mistake.
“What took him so long to yell out the code? Damn it,” Zyair frowned, sighing deeply before looking at Mr. Arcturus. "You're done for, asshole." And just like that, he left without another word.
Zyair stepped out and headed to the back of the storage room alone to complete his task, which involved retrieving the antique-looking nails hidden in a sack underground. He quickly found a shovel to dig with next to an unrecognizable decomposing animal and began working on the spot. The foul odor behind the storage room was unpleasant which spurred him to finish quickly so he could escape the stench. Despite the smell, he focused on shoveling and was eager to get his job done to leave the area as soon as possible.
Just as he was about to pull the sack out from the soil, he noticed a shadow approaching from behind, blocking his view of the ground.
"Hey, idiot! Don't just stand there, give me a hand!" he shouted without knowing who it was. He just focused on pulling the sack out from its place.
“Oh, so that’s how it is,” said the man behind him.
When Zyair realized it wasn't a classmate's voice, he gulped and turned around to see who it was.
It was the librarian… the librarian at the fourth building in Bihira International High. “What’s he doing here?!” Zyair could feel the sweat rolling down his neck, looking nervously at the man standing behind him.
