“Wake up sleepyhead.” It’s Daesul, standing next to me with a tray of food and coffee. “It’s late and we have work today, plus Jay made breakfast, didn’t want it to go to waste.”
I was still in bed, barely awake. “Thanks…” is the first word I uttered, voice laced with sleep, much deeper than I’d expected. I swore I saw a light tinge of pink come up on Seul’s cheeks. Pretty.
“Of course.”
“Have you eaten yet?”
“Not yet. I’ve only had coffee so far.”
“Eat, you have work today. Enjoy Jay’s amazing cuisine.”
I insist that he eats, to the point that I even feed him a bite of the delicious food. “Tasty.”
“Yes, so go get some for yourself. I’ll still be here. And thank you once more for bringing me food and coffee.”
“Of course. Eat up, and then we gotta head to the studio to finish producing.”
“Of course.”
Daesul leaves to eat and I also eat, alone in my bedroom. I know we have to do studio work today, but all I want to do is sleep.
Seul: Hey we only have a week till the tracklist is out and a few more till debut. I think we should use today to polish your song up and produce it. Sunmi-ssi already said that your song is good to go.
Me: That sounds perfect. Shall we meet in your studio or mine?
Seul: Yours, it’s your song so we should go to your studio.
Me: I’ll let you in when I get there
Seul: Of course. I’m stocking up on snacks and drinks for our studio day.
Me: I’m excited!
I finish eating, I take a quick shower, some music playing from my waterproof speaker. I exit my shower and get dressed, wearing slightly-loose ripped jeans with way too many holes, a black and red Retrogade tour tee (as well as rings adorning my fingers and bracelets adorning my arms), singing while I do so.
“Retrogade tour tee, nice,” Daesul says as he sees me walk down the corridor to my studio door. “You look pretty.”
“Thanks, Seulie, you too.”
Daesul’s platinum blond hair is now a pretty shade of bubblegum pink, and it’s sticking up at all angles, still looking amazing somehow. He’s wearing a short-sleeved black hoodie that was slightly cropped, with grey sweatpants, his fingers adorned with pretty rings, and the necklace he wears every day around his neck. He has a bag slung over his shoulder, most likely filled with snacks and drinks.
I type in the code to my studio, letting Daesul enter before I do, he takes his spot on one of the chairs, digging through his bag until he finds a Monster Energy drink. Raspberry tea, his favorite.
“Want one?” He asks as he opens his can, tongue poking out of his mouth as he tries to find another.
“Of course.”
“Ah! Found it!” He exclaims as he pulls another Monster Energy drink, this one being the “Mango Loco” flavor. That one is my absolute favorite.
I take a seat in front of my computer and open it, as well as finding my notebook that is chock-full of lyrics from pre-debut times to now.
“You’re so talented holy shit” Daesul blurts out as I play a demo of an old unreleased song titled Damn., his big doe eyes wide as he looks at me. “H-How are you so talented?”
“I have no clue, but ask yourself Mister-Scouted-By-Multiple-Labels-At-Sixteen.”
Seul laughs and cuffs my arm. “Yeah, yeah.”
I scoff. “Wanna hear me sing? I still need an official title for the song though…”
“Lemme take a look at the lyrics.”
I hand him my notebook and he reads down the page, eyes tracing every line on the paper.
“Clockwork is a good title. I think it’d fit.”
“Clockwork, huh? Sounds pretty.”
Daeseul scribbles the title out at the top of the page, a heart at the end, his small signature also scribbled at the top.
I find all the demo files and find the one titled Time, changing it to Clockwork. I open the file and let Daesul hear it, watching him intently for his reaction.
“I love it. We can add the background music in production today, is that good?”
“Sounds perfect.”
“Then get into the recording booth, hyung! Let’s do this!”
I laugh, walking to the very small recording booth in the corner of my studio, notebook in hand.
