Hailey reconsidered her earlier thought as she considered what it would be like if she was trapped living with her aunt and uncle year round. If she didn’t have magic to protect herself, if she couldn’t use that to shield herself from being hit, maybe it wasn’t worth it to even stick around. Maybe being dead was better.
