How will I see my family again? Will my life ever be normal again? What will happen to Thomas and I?
We need to get out of here.
When I got to our room he was sitting on his bed, working on schoolwork. When I burst through the door, he quickly set what he was doing down.
“What’s wrong?” He stands up and walks over to me, brushing away tears I didn’t know were falling.
“W-we need t-to leave!” I start grabbing the little stuff we own from around the room and throwing it into a bag.
Thomas pulls me into a hug and rubs my head. “Calm down. What’s wrong?”
“I h-heard Michael t-talking to some-someone.”
“Who was he talking to?”
“I d-don’t know.”
“Take a deep breath. Calm down. Tell me what happened.”
He pulled me to the bed and sat me in his lap. After I calmed down, I told him what happened in the library. I told him about the army and how we would never be able to go home.
“Hey, everything is going to be ok, Jamie. I’ll find you a way off and you’ll get back to your family.”
“What about you?”
“I’m going to stop this, it has been going on for too long. Nobody should be trapped here or forced to fight in an army.”
“I’ll help you.”
“No, it’s too dangerous. You can barely fight. I thought you wanted to be with your family.”
“I want to be with you.”
I looked at him as I felt a blush creep up on my cheeks. He was smiling at me with the most genuine smile I have ever seen.
He hugged me tighter, “I want to be with you, too. The next group of students graduate in two months, so we can sneak out with them. In the meantime, we can keep working on your powers and fighting.”
I kiss him on the cheek, and now it’s my turn to watch him blush. “It’s time to get to class.”
“I guess you're right.” This time he gives me a kiss on the lips and we leave for class.

We didn’t tell anyone else about our plan, we didn’t think we could trust them. The graduation day was coming sooner and sooner, only three more days to hone my powers. My powers have become incredibly strong with Thomas, but I can barely light a candle without him. Which is a problem because I might not always be with him. I haven’t lost control in three weeks, which is a new record.
My fighting is average and I have put on a little bit of muscle, but I won’t be out killing people with my bare hands. I can barely take Thomas down in a fight.
We’re at lunch with Tilly and Rob, today is lasagna, which is disgusting.
“Are you guys excited to see off the graduates on Friday?”
Oh yes, very excited. “We don’t really know them very well, but I guess it’s kinda exciting.”
“It’s the only time we land. Maybe Michael will let us have a day in the next town!”
I severely doubt it, considering how big the ship is, we would need to land in the absolute middle of nowhere. “Maybe.”
Thomas decides this is a good time to stop the conversation before anything is said that shouldn’t be said. “Jamie and I should get going to our classes.”
“Oh, yeah, of course. See you guys later.”
We go throw our food away and Thomas grabs my hand and plants a kiss on my knuckles. “Let’s go.”
~~~
“Youngest class in the front, oldest in the back! Everyone get to your seats!”
Lots of people rushed around the big auditorium, getting everything in place for the graduation send off. I can’t believe this is happening, we are actually leaving today. I tightly grip Thomas’ hand as we sit in our seats in the front row. This might make our great escape easier. After they open the door for the graduates to go out to the trucks that will take them “home,” Thomas and I will run out. If there are any problems, Thomas grabbed a small handgun and I have my powers.
“Welcome everyone. I am very proud of our new graduates!” Michael started announcing the graduates, but I couldn’t pay attention, I was too nervous. Always having my head in the clouds.
“Are you ready?” Thomas whispered to me.
I look up to see the doors are opening. They were huge, spanning the whole length of the 20 foot by 20 foot wall. They looked insanely heavy, too. All the graduates climbed into the trucks and the doors started to close.
“Ready.”
Thomas stands up and takes off running and I’m right on his heels. There’s shouting all around us, but I can’t focus on what they’re saying. I step on the sand, we truly are in the middle of nowhere. The wind is strong, but Thomas has set his eyes on one of the trucks that is lined up in the back.
That’s when I hear the gunshots.
“Jamie!”
I look at my shirt and see blood bleeding through the fabric.
Black dots start to cloud my eyes as Thomas's arms wrap around my body.
He picks me up in his arms and all I see is black.
