ONCE BEAU GOT TO WORK, he had to immediately go to the counter, the place was busy and they were understaffed. He barely had time to eat his sandwich before the manager urged him to get to work. LoveStruck is one of the coffee shops close to the university right around the corner and because of that it's very popular with the students. The owners of the coffee shop themselves don't work with them and lets the manager handle several jobs for them as they spent time together. It's super romantic when Beau sees them together.
"Beau, make an espresso and a caramel latte." Beau's coworker and manager Tommy said as he passed him. Nodding his head, he went to work quickly so they can serve the costumers faster. It took a whole two hours before the rush time passed and things got calmer.
Tommy was the first to sit down tiredly, he must've been working since morning. Beau sat down next to him biting into a cookie. "Hey kid." Beau glanced at the brunet. Tommy looked pale and his brown hair was a mess on his head. "Go do your school work, I can handle things from here."
"Are you sure?" Beau watched outside the big window as some people walked by some stopping to look inside and some coming inside. Betty was at the cashier taking orders and making them since it was calmer.
"Yes, just go." Tommy shooed him away and with no other choice Beau walked back to the changing and break room pulling out his homework from his bag pack. The sight of the never-ending work from school made him sighed he stared helplessly at all the unfinished homework of this week and an essay he was supposed to finish by tomorrow and he hasn't written even half of it yet. Confused by half of the homework, he managed to finish as much as he could. He knew he was behind in several of his classes and he might fail the next tests. He should get a tutor or stop working so much.
"What's up?" Betty the redhead coworker of his sat down next to him while she pulled out her phone, typing quickly on it. "What's gotten you down?" She asked Beau, she rose an eyebrow questioning. Beau shrugged, he gave her a pointed look and motioned to all the papers and books in front of him. Betty Johnson nodded and gave him a look of pity but didn't say anything else.
Beau got fed up with his homework he packed them up deciding to finish them when he gets home. Just in time Tommy's head popped out of the door telling him he needs his help again so he was back to work for the next few hours left of his shift.
Standing at the cashier he doodled with a bored expression on a piece of paper. He made sure to draw as much caricature he could remember. The coffee shop's empty after rush hour and currently he was the only one at the counter. Tommy was finally sitting down and actually resting and Betty was cleaning the tables with an annoyed expression.
Tommy was doing some inventory but looking at him now Beau is pretty sure the man's almost falling asleep. Beau opened the cookie jar for the workers taking another cookie. He was hungry, tired and he wanted to go home but he still has about an hour left on his shift now. Turning back to his doodles he noticed Betty's eyes on him. "You had five cookies, B." She pointed out. "Save some for me too."
"Sorry. I'm hungry.” Beau smiled slightly which annoys the pretty redhead. She rolled her eyes but smiled. She walked back to the counter, taking the whole jar away and started eating her share. Beau grinned at their childishness.
Beau raised his head when he heard the door chime ring, his eyes widened slightly at the sight of the costumer. Mylo - his crush walked in with another guy both talking at laughing as they walked over to the counter. Beau froze in his spot; He stared almost mesmerized by the Asian beauty he's been crushing on. It wasn't the first time he handled the cashier when his crush came but it always left him feeling like melting at the sight of the beauty. Beau tried to function properly and slipped a smile on his face.
"Hi, welcome to LoveStruck." With a polite smile on his face, Beau quickly got to work.
Admire later work now.
"Hey. I'll have a large sized Cinnamon iced coffee with extra cinnamon and he'll have a medium sized nonfat iced caramel macchiato." His crush gave him the sweetest smile when he ordered which made Beau almost drop the large cup he grabbed for their order. “Alright, is that all? Can I have your names please?"
"It’s Mylo and Ivan.” Mylo pulled out his card and paid.
Beau smiled nodding, writing the names down on the cups. Beau paused writing, looking up at the duo, he noticed they were distracted. He remembered what Jaslene said to him. He was a coward for not trying to get to know the guy he's been crushing on for months now. He knows that's not what she meant but it was what he felt. He shied away from confrontation and not wanting to get hurt. So he did what he thought was a move on his part. Beau made one step forward. He wrote a note at the bottom of his cup. Deep down hoping he would see it.
"You did what?" Beau was on the phone with Jaslene and James. They never got to hang out after school and with Beau busy at work they couldn't really find a chance to meet up. So they made a group call. James wanted to talk about his date again and if he should ask her on a second date. Jaslene wanted to talk about her ballet rehearsal coming up soon and Beau wanted help with his essay and he wanted to tell Jaslene what he did at work. Jaslene let out a groan. "I might’ve written something at the bottom of his cup..." Beau mumbled feeling embarrassed.
Ruffling his hand in his already messy hair as he looked anywhere but his phone. His laptop left abandoned in front of him with a half written essay. He was frustrated with the essay but also with himself for his worst mistake he did at the coffee shop. Just remembering makes him sink down in shame.
"Damn B." From the phone you can hear him moving around in the background. He could imagine James's face looking at him surprised and amazed. "Now that takes guts. Especially from you"
"Where are you anyway? It's noisy." Beau asked trying to change the subject. It was indeed noisy and they barely could hear when James talked. It was a good distraction from his embarrassing story.
"I’m out with my sisters. They wanted to eat out today." James responded while you can hear him say something to one of his sister's in Spanish. "Guys, I'm gonna hang up. My sis is getting hangry and I have to deal with it before she yells and the poor waiter." James said. "Peace out!"
"See ya." Jaslene said laughing.
"Bye, James." Beau said. The call was left with only Jaslene. Beau wanted to hang up to escape his best friends questioning but he knew it wouldn't work with her. "So?" Beau paused his typing to answer his best friend.
"So what?" Beau asked her. He knew what she wanted to talk about but he really didn't want to anymore. He tried to brush the topic off but knowing Jaslene she wouldn't let it go. "What made you do it?" Jaslene pried again.
"I don't know. I- I just remember what you said to me in the car and I just... I don't know." Beau fiddled with his wristband feeling the pressure now. He could feel the shame and dread for what would happen. Mylo will probably find the note and feel creep out and maybe he mind even guess it was him and he would confront him making him feel worse.
"B, I can hear your erratic breathing. It's okay. It's going to be okay. Breathe." Jaslene spoke trying to calm him. Beau breathing had quickened with his panicked thoughts. He closed his eyes, slowly thinking of the things he likes and things that makes him calm down. His breathing slowly calmed down and opened his eyes. Jaslene was still on call and was patiently waiting for him.
"Sorry." Beau muttered. Looking at his messy table with school work he won't finish tonight.
"Don't be. Are you okay now?" Jaslene asked him and he knew she was worried about him. He nodded then realized she couldn't see him. "Yes, I'm okay now." He moved to his bed lying down with his phone next to him feeling drained.
"B, you know I think it was a good thing you tried to do something. You have feelings for him for months, you got your courage. Keep doing it. Who knows maybe one day he'll read it and think of his secret admirer."
Beau thought about it. He pressed his lips together thinking maybe Jaslene was right. Maybe just maybe, Mylo would notice his message and not be disgusted with him
