"I'll be going first!"
Huang Mao said to his coworkers at the bar and slung a cheap and old backpack on his back.
As usual, his part time ended at 01:00 A.M and he had promised Dr. Mu that he would be taking Xiao Hei home today. It was at this time, that Huang Mao felt that his work time wasn't convenient.
Even though, the vet had said it was fine but still, Huang Mao felt guilty for making the man wait for him this late at night.
So, he didn't waste any time, Huang Mao ran to the veterinary clinic. It was supposed to be 17-20 minutes walk but because he was in rush, it only took him around seven minutes.
He panted heavily when he arrived at the front door of the clinic. He could see the lights were still on despite the "Closed" sign on the door.
He rapped on the door.
Not even a minute, the door was opened and Dr. Mu's handsome face greeted him. "Xiao Mao, you're here. Come inside first."
Huang Mao entered the door and saw Xiao Hei was asleep inside its box on the counter. He smiled down at the small black cat.
Seeing the younger man's sweaty face, Dr. Mu said in concern, "did you run to here?"
Nodding his head, Huang Mao flashed a guilty smile. "Ah, I didn't want to make Dr. Mu wait longer for me."
Dr. Mu sighed, "I already said that I'll wait for you. Xiao Mao ah, you should rest first. Sit, I'll bring cold water for you."
Huang Mao shook his head. "It's fine, Dr. Mu. I'll just take Xiao Hei home. I don't want to disturb you any longer."
Dr. Mu wanted to say something but decided not to. He didn't want to make the younger man feel uncomfortable. Huang Mao was already a bit of introverted person and he just warmed up to him, so, he didn't want to destroy that warmth in their friendship.
"Then, take care. It's late at night. Also, you can come here and bring Xiao Hei anytime."
Holding a box with cat in his arms, Huang Mao flashed a grateful smile and bid the vet a good bye.
Dr. Mu watched the younger male walked until he didn't see his silhouette anymore. Then, he closed the door and soon after the lights inside the clinic were off.
Walking with the cat, Huang Mao followed the familiar path to his old apartment building. He occasionally would take a look at Xiao Hei, making sure the cat's sleep wouldn't be disturbed.
Soon, he could see the familiar old building where he rented a room. Walking to the stairs, the creak, creak sounds was loud during the silent night.
He walked to the last door in the floor and took out the keys in his pocket. Unlocking the door, he pushed the door open and entered. After closing the door and locking it again, then, he reached to the light switch to his left side. The dark room immediately lighted and he sighed in relieve.
Removing his shoes, he then went to the only table in the room.
Carefully, Huang Mao placed the small black cat with the box on the table. He peered inside the box and was relieved to see the cat was still sleeping.
Huang Mao removed the cheap backpack from his back and put it on the shelves beside the bed. Sighing, he went to the bathroom to do his night routine. After he was done with his shower, he dried his hair carelessly and put the towel back to the rack.
He plopped on the bed and sighed. He was so tired today. But then his sight went to the box on the table and a gentle smile adorned his handsome face.
"Welcome home, Xiao Hei ah..."
Was Huang Mao's last words before he fallen asleep.
As soon as he slept, the box on the table moved a little from left to right and suddenly, a man that looked like in his twenty-five appeared near the bed.
The man was tall. Around one hundred and ninety something. He was wearing a black robe, the kind that ancient Chinese people wore.
His hair was pure black and long. The hair was straight, cascading down his straight back like a midnight waterfall and stopped just a shy away from his rear side. A bangs cover his forehead and just underneath those bangs was a pair of phoenix eyes. His eyes were bewitching especially with its rare dual colours - golden and blue. Underneath those deep eyes, a high and noble nose bridge and a pair of pale thin, manly lips with angular jawline. His skin was as clear as a jade and exuded a faint glow.
What made him appear different from normal human was a pair of cat ears on his head.
The man's handsome face was expressionless and cold as he watched the sleeping human on the bed.
He watched the human silently for two minutes, before he waved his hands and the lamps inside switched off suddenly.
In the darkness, the handsome man's dual colored eyes glowed. Leaning down on the sleeping man, he stared at that handsome face for a while before he silently took the blanket from the wardrobe and covered the sleeping man.
"Thank you for saving me, human."
With a blink of eyes, the man's silhouette disappeared and there was a small black cat on the foot of the bed.
The black cat moved around at the foot of the bed, until it found a comfortable place to sleep. It yawned, showing a row of sharp teeth. Smacking it's lips, it small tongue licked the wet nose before the cat settled into a comfortable position and slept.
Huang Mao was deep in sleep and he dreamed of his late mother was tucking the blanket for him. He felt so nostalgic and warmed that he continued to sleep with a smile on his face.
Soon, it was morning and with his biological clock installed in his body, Huang Mao woke up at six o'clock sharp. He yawned and raised his arms to stretch. He blinked his cat like eyes when a blanket fell off him.
Eh? A blanket?
As long as he remembered, he didn't use a blanket last night?
He was about to move from the bed when he kicked something soft. He didn't have time to get a look when he was bit on the leg.
"Ooww!"
He then heard a hiss and angry meow. Looking down, he saw an angry small black cat at the foot of his bed. He blinked his eyes in confusion.
"Xiao Hei? When did you sleep on my bed?"
The cat didn't listen to him as it showed him its small butt and jumped down from the bed. It walked to the direction of the table and jumped up to the table. It sat there as it stared at Huang Mao unblinkingly.
"Xiao Hei?"
Stared.
"Meow!"
He blinked his eyes before he understood. Ah! The cat wanted food! He immediately woke up, took the cat food he bought from the pet shop and poured it into the bowl.
"Here's your food." Huang Mao smiled, his eyes curving happily.
However, the black cat just stared at the processed cat food and turned up its nose arrogantly.
"What's wrong? You don't like it?"
"Meow!"
Huang Mao sighed, "fine. I'll cook for you a fish. You like fish right?"
The black cat gave him a glance before it sat straight on the table and gave a snort.
"Okay, okay, you're the boss here. I'll cook a fish for you."
