Dawson and Felix got into a fight in the nurse's office, Felix hated the new power he had, and Dawson thought he should have been grateful. Dawson was silently jealous of Felix for having the ability, and when he started complaining, he blew up. Dawson couldn’t keep his rage in check any longer; he had said some things to Felix he wished he could take back.
Felix walked home from school when he was supposed to get a ride from Dawson. Felix always had trouble with publicly complaining; he got yelled at because of it before. He felt terrible, but Felix knew Dawson wasn’t in the right either. Felix got into his house and ran upstairs, he knew his mom would be home soon, and he didn’t feel like being put down today. He laid on his bed; as he got comfortable, a piece of paper fell from his pants pocket.
“Oh, I forgot to tell Dawson about this,” Felix said to himself as he reread the note. “Sadness is the key…? Thanks to her? Who's “her”? The only her I know that causes me bad memories is-”
The door opened and slammed shut, then muttering erupted, and the TV turned on. Felix grimaced as he thought she would be home a little later. That confirmed that she was the person causing the power.
“The opposite of sadness… happiness? Who causes that emotion the most?” Dawson’s face flashed in Felix’s mind. “I have to stick with him? Of course, I do! He is always around me, even in my mind!”
Felix crumpled the paper up and threw it across the room. He put his head down and closed his eyes.
Felix internally groaned when he saw darkness; this was getting tiring. The same old scenery, he wanted something new. Suddenly the blackness changed from dark to his bedroom. Everything was fine until Dawson walked into his room; Felix wasn’t even surprised that he was dreaming about him too. What did surprise him was that Dawson picked Felix up by the throat; when he looked into his eyes, he saw that they were jet black. Dawson started to do something to Felix, something he could only describe as possessing him. He was having his body invaded by Dawson. Felix could only watch from afar. Dawson in Felix's body turned the way Felix was facing and whispered, “Guess what. Now I have powers too.”
Felix woke, not crying but with a migraine. His head hurt like never before; the clock on his wall said it was only 5 a.m., so he just tried to go back to bed, and he did. Luckily he didn’t have a dream, but as always, he was late for school. Felix made it to his first-class 20 minutes late, so the only seat left was in the back, next to Dawson. Felix looked in his peripheral vision to look at Dawson, who was watching the teacher. Then, he decided to write a note that would prompt him into talking to him.
“I had a dream.”
That was all Felix wrote on the note; then, he threw it on Dawson’s desk. When Dawson read the message, his eyes got visibly more prominent.
“What about-” Dawson tried to whisper until the teacher cut in.
“Boys in the back! Pay attention, and no notes!”
Dawson huffed and slumped back in his chair. The boys waited anxiously for the class to finish; it seemed to go on for an eternity. Then, when the teacher said they could go, everyone, of course, started leaving.
Dawson, leaving the room, saw Felix still sitting down. Knowing how slow he was, he just picked up Felix’s bag and walked away. Felix quickly got up and saw that Dawson was going the wrong way.
“That isn’t the way to science?”
“We’re skipping.”
“Oh, God… I’m going to fail this year...”
They walked to the back of the school, the place where Felix spit up his first glob. Again, they laid on the same tree in the same silence, but Felix was tracing one of the outlines of the small holes his glob made this time. Felix turned his head to see Dawson already staring at him; they stared at each other for a second, then Felix looked away.
“I feel a strange deja vu… never mind,” Felix mumbled as he put his hand on his head.
“You know what… I felt it too...” Dawson agreed while nodding his head. “Whatever, what do you mean I have powers!?”
“Oh yeah… um… I think your power is… possession?” Felix questioned.
“Possessing… like a ghost?” Dawson said underwhelmingly. Felix thought he would be happier to know he had powers.
“Well, how do I activate it then?” Dawson replied in an uninterested voice, more invested in pulling out the grass.
“I’m not sure… just think about someone, I guess?” Felix asked as he shrugged. Dawson looked Felix dead in the eyes; then, for Felix, everything went dark for a second. Then, after a literal second, everything was back to normal, but he was somehow in the school.
“Huh! How…”
“Excuse me, Felix! Are you not going to the bathroom because if you're not, I will tell your teacher you are skipping!” So yelled a teacher as they walked into the hall.
“Y...yes, about too!” Felix called out making his way to the nearest bathroom. He waited for the teacher to go back into their room to leave. He rushed back outside to see Dawson on the ground rubbing his head.
“What happened!?” Felix shrieked as he fell to his knees in front of Dawson.
“Welp… the short answer is I possessed you. The long answer is, I possessed you and walked around the school… in your body.”
“Wow, that is crazy impressive… How did you do that so easily?” Felix asked quietly.
“I don’t know!” Dawson barked at Felix as he got off the ground. “You said to think of someone, and I did.”
“ Ok… but why were you on the ground?” Felix asked while tilting his head.
“I don’t know; when I came back to my own body, I was on the ground. Oh god… my head is killing… me!” Dawson growled quietly.
“Possess someone again, and I will see what happens,” Felix said as Dawson sat up.
“Yeah, I guess, even though I feel like liquid trash,” Dawson whispered as he closed his eyes. Although Dawson’s body suddenly went limp, Felix quickly caught him before his head hit the ground.
“Your head is unknowingly heavy….” Felix strained as he placed Dawson’s head in his lap. Felix sat in silence before he started hearing shouting from a classroom. Dawson came back into his body and said, “Ha! Did you know what I- Jesus! M...my head….”
Dawson turned his body, so his face was squished into Felix’s stomach. Felix lifted his hands because he didn’t know what to do with them, but then he just placed them on Dawson’s head. Then, while slowly massaging Dawsons’ head, Felix said awkwardly, “When you… uh… “possess,” your body goes limp. I guess the first time you hit your head on the ground.”
“You wanna know what I did….” Dawson whispered, smirking. “I possessed that old teacher… Mr. Koller or whatever his name is. I made him twerk right in the middle of the room… everyone was screaming and taking videos…!”
“I’ll make sure to watch those videos when I can.” Felix chuckled, having the image of the older man dancing in his head.
“You better… show….me…” Dawson replied as he slowly passed out.
“Hey! A..are you… you dead…?” Felix shook as he panicked. Then, when he saw Dawson’s chest rise and fall, he realized he was alive.
