Well... Maybe I should introduce myself first. My name's Veronica. What about you? And I don't mean your name you use now.
- Thanks for emphasizing that. I wouldn't have guessed - she said while rolling her eyes.
After your last panic attack, I wasn't sure you would be able to understand that.
- Are you making fun of me?
Maybe...
- Not only do I have an annoying bug, stuck inside my brain, it also turns out to be so heartless. Why can't I have Bob Ross as my personal voice of conscience instead?
I don't think Bob Ross used to indulge himself in such pleasures as reading cheesy romance novels for teenagers.
- Don't tell me... - She slowly uncovered her face, but still didn't make an effort to stand straight, instead of crouching next to a few bushes in the garden, which hid her from people who would find her behaviour quite odd. - Please tell me that you're only kidding about the novel part.
Oh, sweetheart. Of course not!
The girl kept staring blankly into space. You could almost see all the cogs in her head trying to keep up with the speed of her thoughts.
But then, she suddenly raised her head with her eyes wide open.
- Wait, wait. So if I'm in the novel, does that mean that I'm the main character?
I'm pleased to tell you... No. To be honest I have no idea who you are and why are you in this novel. I've read it 5 times already but I can't recall a character named "Kate". Oh, and you still haven't told me your real name.
- ... It’s Blaire.
Blaire you say. Nice one, unordinary I would say. You were a princess in your previous life or what?
- My only castle was my room, but yeah, I treated people in my school as peasants.
Why is that? Don’t tell me you were the type of person like the characters from ‘Mean Girls’.
- Quite the opposite, I tried to be as invisible as possible, but I usually ended up in fights, because the rest of my classmates just wouldn’t leave me alone.
Ohoho… So a rebellious one. I hope it will come in handy in this story.
- What kind of story even is this? What am I doing here?
Like I said, it’s a romance story of a prince who falls in love with a peasant girl, they get married and live happily ever after.
- Wow… That sounds boring. You really enjoy this kind of stuff?
It sounds boring because it’s just a general plot. It’s the details and style that matter.
- Sure, sure, whatever you say.
I wouldn’t be so full of myself if I were in your shoes. Now that you’re here, you have to obey the rules of the story.
- Who said I have to? I’ve read a few isekais myself and I’m pretty sure that readers try to follow the plot to get out of the story. The thing is, I don’t want to come back or at least not yet. I want to get to know this story and then I’ll decide whether I want to go back or not.
But why? What about your family? Aren’t they gonna miss you? You don’t even know what happened to you, so maybe after you get to the end of the story you’ll learn something.
- What if I’m NOT alive in my own world? When the story ends, am I going to die for real? I don’t want to risk that. I’ll see what this world has to offer and then think about what I should do.
If that’s what you want, then go ahead.
- Aaaaand you’re gonna help me right? – she looked up to the sky with a big, sweet grin on her face as if she wanted to beg God for help.
These descriptions are killing me. Why in the world should I help you? And how am I supposed to do that, ONLY if I were to agree?
- Oh, you know, the usual stuff. Tell me all about the plot so that I can use it to my advantage. You said it’s about a prince and his girlfriend, right? Help me get close to them so that I don’t have to spend my whole life in this shithole.
Weeeellll… It’s not gonna be that easy.
- How come?
It’s a story I’ve read when I was in middle school, so I don’t remember all the details.
- Didn’t you say you read it five times? – the girl furrowed her brows, trying to recollect the words, this mysterious voice once used.
I’m Stephanie, not some mYsTerIOus VOiCe, and yeah, that was an exaggeration. It’s just that I really loved the dynamics between the main couple and I can tell you all about their feelings and cute scenes, but I didn’t really pay attention to anything besides that.
- AND YOU DARE CALL ME A USELESS HEROINE, YOU CRINGE-LOVER!
YOU WANT MY HELP OR NOT?! I CAN JUST SHUT THE BOOK AND PUT IT BACK ON MY SHELF!
- Ekhem, ekhem… Okay, I’m sorry. I felt a tiny little bit frustrated. So what do we do boss?
Boss? Really?
Again, a sly grin showed on the girls face.
- Don’t you like it?
Thank God this book doesn’t transcribe MY actions.
- So you like it! Great, I see a fabulous friendship blooming between us already boss – finally, Kate decided to get up and search for the buckets her mother ordered her to fill with water. She spotted them after a few seconds, right next to an old glasshouse surrounded by plants and gardening tools. While making her way to the well, she resumed the conversation:
- So how does the story start? I bet it’s something like “she bumped into a prince without knowing it’s him, she acted like a total bitch and he thought “well, that’s just my type, sit on my face please”.
…
…
- I KNEW IT! THAT’S TEENAGE ROMANCES FOR YOU! THEY ARE ALL THE SAME! – Laughing maniacally, Kate started to fill the buckets with water. However, while pulling the first bucket out of the hole, her hand slipped from the handle, which started spinning back really fast and hit her chin. The bucket fell back down with a loud splash.
- Jesus! – she shouted, instantly holding her chin and trying to massage it. It could’ve knocked her teeth out.
HAHAHAHAHAHA… That was hilarious. How did you even do that?
- I’M CLUMSY OKAY? – she shouted with a muffled voice.
Aaaaahhh it’s gonna be so much fun… Such a fabulous friendship.
