“Yes, yes.” Nesmir sounded confident. “I can sense you again... I know the place, I am but a few paces away.”

Iola let out a deep sigh of relief.

The rough sound of her captor’s amusement didn’t bother her. They probably were thinking she was drunk.

She couldn’t care any less to even bother reading their simple minds. Nesmir was on his way, he would get her out.

She didn't have to wait for too long.

“You in there.” Nesmir’s deep voice sent a thrill through her. She opened her eyes and sat up, but kept her excitement in check.

“Who dares?” One of the guardsmen rose to his feet and hefted his spear, aiming the wickedly sharp point at the entrance.

“I am Nesmir.” The tall handsome young guardsman stepped into the guardroom. “Here on official errand for his lordship.”

“Lord Esamus sent you?” The second guardsman stood up as the first put up his spear.

“Aye.” Nesmir lied. “I am here to escort all your prisoners to him.”

“We have but one.” The other guard gestured toward Iola in the holding pen. “A drunk, by the looks of her... traipsing around the streets during curfew.”

“She will have to do.” Nesmir nodded, not looking at her for too long. “Hand her over.”

“Er... what claim do you have that Lord Esamus himself...” The first guard stood his ground.
