Ego University [Season 3]

Chapter 9- Hidden Star and Shade

Chapter 9- Hidden Star and Shade

Jan 28, 2022

Third Period, 12:21pm
(Death's Pov)
"Death, slow down" Angel said as I continued to drag her down the corridor "Where are we going anyway?" she asked "Building B's den entrance" I answered, turning another corner before Angel ripped her hand out of my grasp "Why?" she asked, folding her arms. ...right after period two's bell to end the class, I walked up to Angel "You need to come with me" I told her, not exactly giving her a chance to say anything as I grabbed her arm and dragged her out of the classroom, only leaving her enough time to grab her bag. "Death, hold up-" "We need to get to Building B now" I harshly whispered as I continued to drag her down the corridor... okay, I could've been less... me. "Isra sent me a text for us two to meet her in building B's den entrance, and I have a strong hunch that it's about something important" I told her "...alright" Angel said, nodding her head for me to continue down the corridor as she followed me. A minute later, we reached the den entrance. I slipped a piece of paper under the small gap under the wall, a second later it opened up, revealing a staircase down under the school. Angel walked down first while I followed behind her, closing the wall behind us before making the descent into the darkness. Once reaching the bottom, we saw Isra standing by one of the den rooms' doors... we walked over to her "Just you two?" "As told and promised" I answered Isra before she gestured us to walk into the room. We walked in, Isra closing and locking the door behind us so there was no interruptions- "Seraphina?" I turned my head to where Angel was looking, seeing the angel as well "What's she doing here?" I asked Isra "She's the one with the important information" Isra answered as Seraphina stepped closer to us. "Alright, we're all ears" Angel said, folding her arms as Seraphina took a shaky breath "The morning of the day you guys came back from Hell, Lucia called me" Seraphina started as I raised a brow "Your little sister? the Starling of Celestine?" I questioned "What's Lucia got to do with this?" Angel asked Seraphina. "The barer of bad news revolving our 'war' with the Killens" Seraphina answered and I could see it in her eyes, the fear and worry about what she has heard, what she is about to tell us.

"The day we rescued all the kidnapped starlings at Darkbrooke... there was one other starling we never saved" both me and Angel looked at Seraphina absolutely confused "They were all held up in the basement- how did we miss one?" I questioned "I don't know- Lucia asked me where this one starling was and I told her that that person never existed but...." "But?" Angel repeated, now seeming very concerned about this. "Lucia said that she saw them, in person a day or so before we arrived in Darkbrooke... and this person was indeed there the same time we got everyone out" Seraphina's voice was consumed with worry and fear that was slowly increasing by the second "And apparently this starling has been held captive by both the killens and Grey Army for longer than any of us would like" Seraphina added. "Okay- do you know who this starling is?" I asked, also trying to calm Seraphina down a bit "I don't know their name but... Lucia called them the Starling of Jade" Seraphina answered "And we're overly worried about this person... why?" Angel calmly questioned. "There's different rumours and myths of what each starling can do and how if effects each realm" Seraphina stated "The Starling of Jade however, is rumoured to be the very key to travelling in-between realms, meaning-" "With the Starling of Jade, the Grey Army and Killens can make secret gateways to each realm" I finished Seraphina's sentence before angrily signing. "How could we mess this up so much?" I mostly asked myself, not exactly expecting an actual answer "Well Seraphina just said that they've been in the cult and army's hold for a while now, there's no possible way we could've know about this" Angel told me "I know but-" "There's one more thing" Isra interrupted, we turned our heads to her. "The jade stone from the Thorn Temple alter is gone" Isra announced "Jade stone?" I silently questioned "It's actually the last piece of the Jade god stone that was destroyed about a century or two ago" Seraphina explained "A starling must have a piece of their god stone on them in order to use their full powers" she added.

"Okay, so we're all completely fucked" "Death-" "Listen Angel" I kinda snapped "Because of us, the Grey Leader now has a key to any realm he wishes" I stated "It's our fault that we missed a chance of taking that advantage away from the Grey Army and cult-" "Death" Angel placed her hands on my shoulders, looking at me dead in the eyes. "I promise you that we are gonna get that starling, one way or another, we will win this stupid 'war' between us and them" Angel tried to assure me yet I just shrugged her hands off my shoulders "You don't understand, Angel... the past two years, their target has been our friend" I stated "Them having both the jade god stone and the Starling of Jade makes it a million times worse than before... because now they have a huge chance of actually getting Gamer".

Afterschool, 3:49pm
(No One's Pov)
Gamer ran across the road to the dorm block, towards the 1A dorm house. Once through the front door, Gamer ran down the hallway "Li! Li, come out!" the fallen yelled, worried excitement rotting within his throat as he searched the boys' floor of the house "Li, please! Li-" "Gamer, the hell's wrong?" the fallen turned his head to see Leo hanging out of the door of his room. "Leo, have you seen Li-" "No I haven't- you need to calm down a bit, Gamer" Leo told him as he walked over to the fallen "I don't need to calm down, I need to find Li" Gamer snapped, trying to walk past Leo yet the angel grabbed Gamer's left wrist and shoulder. "Let go-" "Not until you tell me why you're looking for Li" Leo said as the fallen glared up at him "I need to tell them something-" "You never need to tell them anything so start telling the truth" Leo loosen up his grip a bit as Gamer angrily signed. The fallen ripped his arm out of Leo's grasp while taking off his bag, reaching into it and pulling out the picture Logan found earlier in the storage room and held it out to Leo "What's this?" Leo questioned, taking the picture into his own hands "It's class 1A from 1946" Gamer answered, leaning over the frame and pointing to a girl. "This is Annadite... before she became so corrupt" Gamer told Leo "Okay?... and what does this have to do with-" "Look at this student" Gamer interrupted, pointing at a pale boy with dark hair "Is that..." "Yeah, it is" Gamer affirmed Leo's thought. "So... you want to tell Li he was an ego student back in 1946?" Leo questioned the fallen "Sort of, but not the main reason I want to show him this... I want him to look at this guy" Gamer pointed to the male adult in the photo "The teacher?... Gamer, Li's got no memories about his past 'life' whatsoever, what's gonna make you think he'd be able to remember a single teacher?". "A teacher who've possibly could've been his murderer" Gamer whispered as Leo's eyes widened a bit "Wait- what makes you think-" "This guy is Grayson Direshade" Gamer stated, grabbing an old book out of his bag and opening it to its marked page "According to this, he secretly killed about a dozen kids during his time teaching here at EU, but was tortured and killed by a ripper demon of a now dead clan after his thirteenth victim" Gamer continued.

"Most people remember their killers-" "What about those who've died twice?" Leo asked as the fallen went dead silent "You really think Li's going to remember a guy who might've killed them nearly fifty-five years ago?" Leo questioned "People like them on the other side have poor memory once it comes to past lives, you can't expect Li to remember something so long ago- especially something such as their death" Leo told Gamer. "But-" "You're getting your hopes up too much, Gamer-" "Well maybe my hope is a lot stronger than you think" Gamer quietly snapped at Leo before walking to his own room "What about Death?" Gamer froze at Leo's question "What about him?" Gamer snapped back "Telling him that he has to 'earn' you like everyone else- is that how you see his love for you?" Leo questioned, knowing full well that he was now overstepping a dangerous line. "That isn't any of your business-" "It is when one of my friends leaves another dead confused and scared about what the other told him" Leo snapped "This isn't like you Gamer- you value your friends' emotions and diffidently don't tell them shit like that-" "Leo!" the angel jumped a bit at the fallen's sudden raise of voice. Gamer turned around, facing Leo as he glared at him "Is that it...?" Leo questioned, folding his arms "A shit way of you giving Death a chance to prove himself to you- that he does love you and that you should be with him?" the angel asked as Gamer continued to glare at him. "Or... is this simply a way for you to actually figure out your feelings for him?" "...it's his final chance with our deal" Gamer answered with clear hate and annoyance in his eyes and voice "Although... I'd like you to stop talking to me and Death about this shit as well". Without any other word, Gamer walked back to his room and slammed the door shut behind himself. Leo however, pulled out his phone and quickly called someone "Hey- you remember how I said I'd keep an ear out for you about what he really meant?.... Death, I think I know what he meant now".
