She comes back to reality quickly when she hears some of her campers walk in. They look at her in confusion and worry. She sighs and looks at them.
“Tonight you all will be putting the dresser in front of the door. I won’t be here tonight. I need to stay on watch outside,” She comments and they look at her worried.
“That’s why you took a gun and pocket knife out of your bag,” Hana comments and they look at her.
“Yes that is why,” She says as she walks away from the bed and her bags.
“What if they get in,” Izumi asks and Sarah pulls out a key from her pocket. Then tosses it to Izumi.
“That will unlock the chest at the foot of my bed. Open it if or when the creatures get in,” She says as she walks out. It’s about lunch time. Some campers are rushing to the dinning hall and others are calmly walking. Sarah decides to walk to the dining hall. Ginger steps in front of her. She looks Ginger in the eyes.
“You’re staying out tonight,” Ginger hisses.
“Yep, per Michael,” Sarah comments with a sigh.
“Why?! Is he insane,” Ginger growls.
“He did make you and the others. He cursed the very ground we walk on. So I would guess that he is very much insane,” Sarah comments with a frown. Ginger looks at her in shock.
“Are you going to break it tonight,” Ginger whispers with wide eyes.
“No, I couldn’t leave someone without a parent. After what I did back then,” Sarah sighs as looks at the blue cabin out of the corner of her eye.
“It wasn’t your fault. What are you going to do tonight if there is someone skipping curfew,” Ginger asks quietly.
“Protect them and then the camp is closing,” Sarah answers and Ginger sighs.
“Then we will be separated,” Ginger comments softly while looking at the ground.
“Yes but everyone will be safe,” Sarah comments as she cups Ginger’s face.
“I did hear of a couple that are going to try to skip curfew. Please be careful,” Ginger comments while leaning into Sarah’s touch.
“I will. Let’s go grab something to eat,” Sarah says as she gently takes Ginger’s hand. Ginger smiles and nods as they walk towards the dining hall. They get there and they start to pick out their meals. Ginger got a salad with some water. Sarah got a couple sandwiches with some water as well. They sit down with the other councilors and they give them a questioning look.
“What,” Sarah asks while picking up a sandwich.
“We want to know what it is that is so bad at night that we can’t go out walking around,” Cree answers quietly.
“You don’t want to know,” Sarah growls softly.
“We do,” Lake says quickly.
“No you don’t,” Sarah growls, “Now drop it.”
They finish eating and they go out to the fire pit. They sit down and Sarah looks out at the lake. The others wait for it to start. For the story.
“I left off with the giant paw print right,” Sarah asks, her eyes never leaving the lake.
“Yes,” Ariel answers quickly.
“Alright, well the bunny girl looks up from the giant paw print and sees her friend. Her friend is perfectly fine. She and her friend go back to the cabin after they enjoy their breakfast with a few questions. They clean up and decide to wear some cute sundresses. They step out and the wolf boy grabs the bunny girl by the waist and insists on going on a hike. The bunny girl says no and tries to get away from him. He wouldn’t let go and even tighten his grip on her. He grabs her wrist tightly and pulls her along to the hiking trail. They get a ways down the trail when he drags her off the trail. She tries to fight to go back to the trail but he drags her deep into the forest. Then he throws her up against a tree. She grabs her side that hit the tree in pain as she goes to stand. He walks up to her demanding to have her wrists. She says no and he forcibly pulls her wrists to him. He removes his bandana and ties her wrists together onto a branch above her head,” Sarah says and they all look at her in shock.
“The wolf boy didn’t, did he,” Cree asks.
“I can finish the story during dinner,” Sarah says as she stands up and they all pout. They head to the dining hall. They all grab their dinner and drinks. Then they take a table that is alone outside. Sarah looks down at her food. She had grabbed a burger with lettuce, tomato, ketchup, and mayo. She also had a small side order of french fries. She had also grabbed a small pop to drink. She sighs as she grabs a french fry and starts to eat it.
“The bunny girl was left on the ground. Naked. Her body is covered in cuts, bruises, and blood. Her wrists are bruised from the bandana. Her clothes lay strewn about the ground. She looks up to the sky and sees the sun has started to set. She shakily stumbles to stand and carefully picks up her clothes. Then she carefully put them on. She stumbles through the forest as the sunsets and makes it to the leader’s cabin. He invites her in while in shock. He helps her clean up and get new clothing since her’s were cut in places. He bandaged and treated her wounds. He even contacted the police. Then when the bunny girl saw the police she got scared and ran down the hallway to hide. Then the leader found her and calmed her down. He explained everything and got her to agree to talk to the police. Then when they got to the room where the police were the door was wide open and the police weren’t anywhere to be seen. They did see something else in the doorway though. It was big and it was dripping with blood. The leader picked the bunny girl up and gently but quickly carried her back to the room where she had hid before. The thing clawed the back of the bunny girl before they started down the hallway. The leader shut and locked the door. Then had the bunny girl run to a cabin for help. The first one she gets to no one opens the door. Then she turns to run to the next one but she sees two more large and skinny creatures walking by. She then turns the other way and runs to the next cabin. The blue cabin. She knocks and someone answers. The wolf boy answers. She hesitantly walks in but He didn’t close the door fast enough. He is thrown against the wall as the creatures start to enter the cabin. The bunny girl and a couple other campers start to run for the bathroom. They get there and the bunny girl opens a window. She goes to help the others out of the cabin when the others are attacked. She runs out to the lake and swims out to the middle of it. Hoping that the creatures wouldn’t follow. The creatures didn’t follow her. So, she felt safe for a split second until she felt the creatures in the water brush against her legs. She decided to float there. She floated in the water until morning with the creatures occasionally brushing against her. She swam back to shore in the morning and the leader met her there. She saw parents and the police there as well. He told her that the camp was closed and escorted her to her parents. He told her parents what had happened to her. Then her parents gently led her to their vehicle and the last thing she saw was the wolf boy’s body being loaded into the coroner’s van,” Sarah says as she finishes her dinner.
“Okay, what does that have to do with you,” Lake asks quietly. They all then get up and dispose of their trash. They get ready to go separate ways to the cabins.
“I was the bunny girl,” Sarah answers as she looks at the sky.
“I don’t see how you caused something to happen to Ginger though,” Cree comments.
“The door was opened and some fought back. I lost my sight in one eye from it,” Ginger answers from behind them.
“How? Were you a survivor as well,” Ariel asks.
“No, I was one of the murders,” Ginger answers as she walks away. Lake, Cree, and Ariel look at Ginger with shock.
“I thought you said that it was creatures that killed everyone,” Lake asks Sarah.
“It was and that’s the catch. The ones that survived it and participated in it have been walking around with us the whole time. Ginger is one of them. She just doesn’t like that side of her,” Sarah answers, still looking at the sky.
“How is that possible,” Lake asks.
“It’s getting dark. You should get to your cabins,” Sarah comments, not answering Lake. They sigh as they head to their cabins and Sarah heads to the fire pit. The sun goes down and she hears someone walking up to the fire pit. She turns and looks at the person and it's not one person but 3. It’s Lake, Cree, and Ariel. Sarah sighs and stands up.
“You guys are really serious about finding out what happens at night,” Sarah comments, looking them in the eyes.
“Yeah,” Lake sighs looking at the ground sheepishly.
“Then you are about to find out,” Sarah comments as they hear a howl.
“What was that and where is it safe,” Cree asks worriedly.
“We need to go to Michael’s,” Sarah comments as she turns to head that way.
“Why,” Lake asks, confused.
“He can answer all the questions and we can be safe,” Sarah answers and they nod. They start to head towards Michael’s cabin. They get half way when they run into all 4 of the creatures. A kitsune, a werewolf, a demonic rabbit, and a wendigo. The creatures are standing between them and Michael’s cabin.
“When I say go, run for the cabin,” Sarah says as she pulls out her gun.
“What about you,” Ariel asks, concerned.
“I’ll be fine. Just get to that cabin,” Sarah answers while cocking her gun. They nod and Sarah shoots the kitsune in the leg. The kitsune growls and glares at her. The other 3 direct their attention to Sarah.
“Go now,” Sarah says as she runs toward the cabins. The creatures follow close behind her. Lake, Cree, and Ariel run to Michael’s cabin. They barge in as Sarah runs out of sight with the creatures.
“Lake, what is the meaning of this,” Michael asks sternly.
“Dad, there’s monsters out there and they are chasing Sarah,” Lake answers quickly.
“She will be fine. I think it’s time to tell you about the camp,” Michael comments. Sarah has run into the forest with the creatures close behind her. She quickly turns around and heads back to the camp. Losing them for a brief moment. She runs past the cabins and back to Michael’s cabin. When she gets there she knocks and waits for him to answer. He quickly answers the door and lets her in. He quickly shuts and locks the door.
“I lost them briefly in the forest,” Sarah comments.
“I explained everything to them,” Michael says and Sarah looks at them.
“Now you know,” Sarah says and they nod.
“This will be the last night,” Michael comments as he leaves the room.
“How did you find out about it,” Lake asks.
“I came back after everything and asked. He answered me truthfully. He told me about the curse that backfired and how this place can be cured of it,” Sarah answers while sitting down.
“I will contact the parents in the morning,” Michael says as he walks back into the room with some tea. He sets it down and then sits down with them.
“Why don’t you just break the curse if you know how,” Lake asks while grabbing a cup of tea.
“I didn’t want to leave you without a parent,” Sarah answers as she looks out the window. She sees the creatures running around and pacing the cabins.
“So, if we break the curse then Michael disappears as well,” Cree comments while looking at Michael. Michael nods with a soft sigh.
“But those creatures have killed and hurt so many. We need to break it,” Lake says and looks at Michael. Michael then looks to Sarah.
“Would you be willing to live without a parent or even end up back in the system,” Sarah asks Lake as she turns her attention to them.
“I..,” Lake starts to say but stops. They then look at the ground and Sarah sighs.
“You guys should sleep or think of something else to talk about,” Sarah comments as she grabs a cup of tea.
“What were they,” Ariel asks and everyone looks at her confused, “Those monsters. What were they?”
“Those creatures are a side effect of the curse. To stay a bit safe someone or several people have to wear those costumes. The costumes are also linked to the creatures. The creatures appear to be human during the day but at night they show their true forms. The deer is a wendigo. The fox is a kitsune. The wolf is a werewolf. The rabbit is a demonic rabbit. They all seem normal during the day but at night it's different,” Michael comments and Sarah sighs as she goes back to looking out the window. Then they hear one of the creatures walk up to the cabin. It starts to circle it and they hear claws drag along the outside of the cabin. Sarah stands up and walks up to a dresser and slowly but quietly starts to move it. She puts it in front of the door right as the creature starts to bang on it. Soon they hear the other creature running up to the cabin.
“It won’t hold all of them,” Michael comments.
“Go hide,” Sarah whispers so all of them can hear. They all run to the back office. Sarah slowly follows behind while she puts blockades up. She gets in and locks the door and sits in front of it. They hear the creatures banging and then the door crashing open. They hear the creatures searching the cabin and one stumbling down the hall. It comes to the door and it’s claws scrape against it. They stay quiet as it stumbles away. They stay in the room and fall asleep slowly. They wake to the sun shining in the window. They then leave the room and Michael starts calling parents and guardians. Lake, Cree, and Ariel look at Sarah as Sarah examines the claw marks. The parents and guardians quickly soon show up after. The campers start to load up and Hanna and Izumi’s guardian starts to walk up to Sarah. Sarah sees this and heads to the blue cabin. He follows her and she is packing her stuff.
“So, the camp is closed. Now you need to decide what to do. Will you come have dinner with me or not,” He says with a smirk. She finishes packing and starts to walk out of the cabin.
“Like I said I will think about it,” She comments as she passes by him.
“How about I send you the invite,” He comments with a chuckle.
“That can but I might or might not show up,” She says as she walks out and he follows. She walks up to her car.
“I hope to see you soon,” He says with a smirk.
“I wouldn’t hope too much,” She says as she gets into her car, “You might break your own heart.”
“See you around Black Heart,” He whispers as he gets into his vehicle and they both drive off. They go separate ways and Sarah heads home. Once she gets home she packs all her clothes and weapons into her vehicle. She then leaves her home behind to find a new one and a new life. She makes one stop at a small road side store to pick up some things she will need. She then drives out to a remote lake cabin and she starts to unpack. Then her phone goes off with a text. It's from Akio. It’s the invite to dinner. She is miles away from there and him. He wouldn't be able to find her. She steps out of the cabin and throws the phone into the water with a smile. She then walks in and looks at the still packaged phone she had bought at the roadside store. She then goes back to finish unpacking and putting everything up. She then settles into the cabin with a cup of tea as she looks out at the lake as she stands out on her back porch.
