After entering the orb I saw visions of my entire life in moments, flashing through my eyes and mixing with the reality I was seeing. I saw not only my own but millions of other memories that I could not make sense of all within seconds of passing into the orb. Flashes of emotion passed through me. I saw everything while seeing nothing. My mind was not capable of processing it all. Right as I felt I was about to die a small notification appeared in front of my eyes. Sitting in the seat of my ship with white surrounding everything around me I saw the notification and immediately snapped back to reality. It seemed the world around me was not affecting me through my ship. Reading the notification out it said:
[ Congratulations on reaching the Edge ]
[ As a reward for your success in an impossible achievement you have granted a system ]
[ As a bonus reward you will be reincarnated at your last notable achievement checkpoint ]
[ We look forward to seeing your progress ]
[ Welcome back to drifters ]
A game? Who is ‘We?’ Reincarnation? A mound of questions revolved in my head but I suppressed them when looking out ahead of me. The light had formed a tunnel and at the end of that tunnel seemed to look like a planet. Shooting out of the tunnel my ship immediately soared across the sky and started falling down towards the planet at a rapid pace. No energy was left after flying to the orb of light so gravity began taking its effect. I buckled my seatbelt and packed in. I understood my ship would be alright because it was made out of extremely advanced materials. I on the other hand would be in danger because of the inertia. As the ship flew downward towards the land it began crashing into familiar blue pines and vegetation. Huh, that looks familiar, I thought.
FWOOM, right before I could think of anything else the ship landed on the solid rock surface of the planet after crushing a long trail of trees. The ship spun out of control and I immediately blacked out from the g-force.
***
When I awoke the ship was fully intact but lacked energy. The ship's mana core had stabilized everything but now was completely out of energy. I was out of luck.
Momentarily standing up I realised something was different about myself. Normally I would never have blacked out from such slow speeds but I was fully asleep for at least 30 minutes. My muscles were smaller and I was shorter as well. My well trimmed stubble on my face was missing and my hair was wack. I headed to the bathroom and looked at my face in the mirror. I looked exactly like myself directly before I had awakened on calypso. Thinking back to my vision before I landed I formed a theory.
After checking for safety and going outside I saw the familiar landscape. My ship, lodged into the rocks and balancing on the edge of a cliff, surrounded by a familiar forest of boreal pine trees with thick blue pines, a rounded semicircle shaped mountain, and an old beacon at the peak. I was home, back on calypso. In the far background there was a small moon and a large planet with light coming off indicating civilization.
This could be a dream but I had experience with dream technology and this felt too real. A simulation maybe? A video game? As for now I could not tell but I did remember one thing. Right before I was sent to Calypso I saw the notifications informing me of the system. Thinking about testing it I tried thinking about my status. As if reading my mind the directory board opened up.

__________
All things considered these stats seemed pretty good. After living as a scavenger since childhood it seemed that some of my stats were unnaturally high. My intelligence and senses had always been high. Adapting to the harsh environment of this planet's social hierarchy had made it necessary to have good senses and be resourceful. The charm stat can be improved later on.
In retrospect this stats sheet was very interesting to me. In my past life I focused everything into intelligence and endurance, effectively becoming a tanker strategist. I did not have the system but if I did both values would definitely have been very high. As a general this combination worked excellently for me and my wars were often won without me having to step into the battlefield. During the betrayal my endurance benefited me greatly by keeping me alive despite near fatal wounds.
Besides the status tab there were also a couple others that I could instantly switch through with a thought. One tab mentioned skills and talents, one had a map based on my memories, one quests tab, one equipment tab, and a final customization tab. The map seemed to be the most useful as it retained my memories from my past life and effectively created a galaxy supercluster wide map. The map also displayed the time, temperature, altitude, and many other handy resources.
The time was the most notable. The clock read SE 7,787,463 - 06 - 19. The empire separated the common era (CE) from the space era by making (SE). This was effectively a body clock linked to me. The most notable thing about this date was that it was before everything had happened.
By this date the war had not started yet, I had not yet been betrayed, and my enemy’s had not yet fully gained their power. Calypso was still safe and I was not yet in the imperial army. I wasn't even a drifter. This was my chance. I could fulfill my revenge. I could conquer the sea of stars that I had spent years looking back at while floating through space. I could conquer the universe.

Far, far away sat three figures silently observing Remph as he set off down the mountain. Crooked backs gave a sense of age yet the darkness all around them gave no hints as to their features. In the midst of all the darkness surrounding them there was a single light that seemed infinitely far away. A light that swirled and danced, oftentimes illuminating the three figures for breif moments. A small object was manuevered around in their hands while their hidden expressions changed wildly by the second. Peering into the light at all times the three figures continued to observe Remph on his journey.

Thus marks the beginning of the journey of Remph Silicon. A man marked by his courage and intelligence, yet held down by his pride and weakness. To overcome such trials he will endure the pain of thousands and rise beyond all that is known. Armed with his trusty ship and his new system he sets off a reborn man into a familiar galaxy.
End of Chapter 2 - The Edge of the Universe - Part 2
- Authors Note:
This is the first novel I am writing on this site so I will try and make this novel as fuctional as it can be. The chapters have a character limit so I will sometimes break them up into parts similar to this one. Overall I will try to make 1 or 2 full chapters (Multiple Parts) a week depending on how much I can put out with school and everything. I look foward to having you read with me.
Thanks,
Azrael.
