Fantastic Rebirth

Chapter 1, Part 1

Chapter 1, Part 1

Dec 07, 2021

For as long as I can remember, I had always wondered what it would be like to die. As I heard from people who had come through near-death experiences, I had taken the liberty of imagining death as something excruciating and extremely painful. However, now that I was experiencing it for the first time, I have to admit that I had never felt better in my former life

Although I knew I was dead, I couldn't remember how I had died. Had I been murdered? If so, why? It didn't seem to me that I had hurt anyone enough, or drawn enough attention, that anyone would want me dead. Anyway, there was no point in trying to answer that question when I was dead anyway.

Everything was so dark around me that it was difficult to see only a few meters ahead. Only a warm, welcoming light stood out from this place filled with darkness.  There was no doubt that it was the famous light that many people said they had already seen during various cardiac arrests or comas, even though it was relatively far from me. Even though I was slowly climbing in its direction, it took me a whole eternity before I could finally reach it

Only ten meters away from this intense glow, my eyesight was turned upside down to the point where it was impossible for me to see any color other than pink or, on rare occasions, red. It was also possible for me to perceive different snatches of conversation, which was a strong contrast to the silence I had gotten used to a little earlier. After a while, these snatches of conversation became much clearer, and it was possible to distinguish the following words

- Congratulations, Miss! He is a healthy young man!

I should definitely have come to the conclusion that I had just experienced the miracle of birth for the second time, but I was so taken aback by the words I had just heard that it took me a while before I could think straight again. After a long evaluation of the situation I was in, I realized that I was able to understand the language that had just been used, even though it was not my original language

I had to fight with all my strength present inside my body so that I could finally succeed in fluttering my eyes a few times, before being assailed by a whole myriad of colors, figures and especially lights that the place in which I found myself had. The first thing I could observe with enough intensity and discernment was the face of a woman with red cheeks and relatively fine features who was neither entirely European nor entirely Asian

Even though this surprised me, what surprised me the most at that moment was the fact that this famous person was not wearing a gown, and that the room in which I was was not at all like a hospital room, but rather in a room in which the wooden bed was relatively modest and humble by what I had known in the past. The room was lit by only a few candles that projected their lights on the different walls of the room

While I let my new eyes observe with attention the place in which I was then, these last ones landed on a young woman curled up in an uncommon way on the bed that I had seen only a few moments ago. Considering the fact that I had just relived for the second time in my life this thing called birth, it seemed to me to be legitimate to name this person who seemed to have faced a thousand and one pains to bring me into the world

Taking several more seconds to examine my mother's appearance, I had to admit that she was a beauty that would make many passers-by hold their breath. While being a beauty that would appeal to many of my former acquaintances, she was somehow charming, where kindness and tenderness was easily visible in the smile she gave me as I was placed in her arms by who knows who, with long blond hair and green eyes

"He's not crying ... I thought newborns were supposed to cry at birth ..."

The noticeable concern I could read on my mother's sweet face made me feel guilty even though I had done no wrong, and I tried in every way to let colorful tears run down my face, without much success. At the same moment, one of the many women in the room spoke up with a slight laugh, seeming to be amused by the reaction of the one who had just given me life

"There's no reason to worry for so little, I assure you. Sometimes babies just don't cry at birth. However, you will have to rest for several days before you can expect to resume the normal course of your life."

Nodding slightly without saying a word before looking into her emerald-like eyes of infinite beauty, my mother smiled a sweet smile that only a mother is capable of and then lowered her head a few inches so that our cheeks could gently touch. A strange feeling of well-being ran through my entire body and I instantly understood that no matter what would happen, this place and this person who was my mother would forever be a place of comfort

I couldn't say exactly how long it had been since I had experienced what I called my second birth, but it must have been several years since I had mastered my new body with much more ease than before. I had, among other things, succeeded in taking my first steps after many months of trying, which delighted my mother who hugged me and smiled tenderly.

After a long and deep introspection inside the house in which I lived and its surroundings, I had managed, at first, to hypothesize that I might have returned to the past of my own world. However, this hypothesis was only of short duration because by observing the forest present not far from the house, I saw with amazement an animal not taller than an inch that I knew not. I then quickly arrived at a much more sensible hypothesis, I had been reincarnated in another world by the means of I don't know what machination

Fortunately, my mother, whose name was Kalia, seemed to be a good person, because I had never met a person as generous, caring and warm as her. During an outing in the village closest to where we lived, I had realized that my mother was not a person who was relatively appreciated by the villagers, as they made fun of her by calling her an outcast as soon as her back was turned. Being constantly watched with my eyes by the one I was calling mom, I didn't do anything, but I stared at them while passing by them
